On account of population aging and increasing cardiovascular disorders, acute cardiac arrest cases are escalating each year. In order to increase the survival rate of the patients, rapid cardiopulmonary resuscitation is necessary. For this reason, the government is expanding the supply of Automated External Defibrillators(AED). However, the AEDs cannot be effectively deployed to the incident cases that occur outdoors, for the installed AEDs are mostly located indoors. After analyzing the distribution of incident cases within the study area, about 11% of cardiac arrest incidents occurred in open spaces including sidewalks and residential areas. This study was conducted to increase the survival rate of the patients by allocating 41 additional AEDs in the study area using a GIS based location-allocation method. To conduct a feasibility study, the density of a senior floating population covered by the same number of AEDs placed at random and the density covered by the experiment were compared. In conclusion, having excluded outliers caused by geological and social factors, results showed that AEDs placed through GIS based location-allocation covered 5% more of the senior floating population density.

This study aims to make a comparison of educational effectiveness between instructor-centered learning and video self-instruction(VSI) about automatic external defibrillator(AED) for high school girls in order to help select an effective teaching method concerning AED. A total of 59 high school girls (29 for the experimental group, 30 for the control group) in J Province participated in this study from July 7 to 14, 2010. The analysis was carried out by using an SPSS WIN 12.0 Version program. After the AED instruction, the knowledge increased more in the experimental group (1.72) than that in the control group (1.60); self-confidence increased more in the experimental group (1.58) than that in the control group (1.46); and accuracy of technical performance increased more in the control group (5.46) than that in the experimental group (4.20). The experimental group (5.68) was more satisfied with AED instruction than the control group (4.95). Since video self-instruction proved to be more educationally effective than instructor-centered learning in most areas, it is necessary to apply video self-instruction to AED instruction in the future. However, further researches are necessary to see if video self-instruction is effective.
In this paper, we implemented a high performance automated external defibrillator(AED) simulator that has various characteristics of virtual simulated patient(VSP) to verify important operations and functions of the AED. To verify the AED in various environment, the AED simulator should have the characteristics of VSP and can analyze the characteristics of electrical shock rhythm. In this paper, the implemented simulator has twenty seven electrocardiogram scenarios and we showed the implemented simulator has less error rate than conventional simulator in analyzing electrical shock rhythm.
purpose : The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of basic life support performance by video simulation training. Methods : The subjects in this study consisted of 24 persons of experimental group and 24 persons of control group in freshmen and sophomore EMT students. The data were collected from September 1 to 30, 2010. Results : 1. Hypothesis one: experimental group is meaningful higher than control group at the operation point (p<0.05) of adult/infant's basic life support for one person. In subcategory that identifying breath, artificial respiration, pulse rate, 30 compressions, Ability to perform all the processes, the experimental group showed statistically higher score (p<0.05) than control group, and sequence from checking reaction to keeping airway management isn't statistically significant difference between experimental group and control. 2. Hypothesis two: In the hypothesis, the experimental group's point of adult basic life support by two persons and use of Automated External Defibrillator is good in experimental group than control group's point(p<0.05). As the result of researching 11 contents of check list about adult basic life support by two persons and Automated External Defibrillator(AED), by dividing into 7 subcategories, every subcategory shows that the experimental group is significant higher than control group(p<0.05). 3. Hypothesis three: In the hypothesis, the experimental group gets higher point of infant basic life support by one or two persons than the control group (p<0.05). As the results of researching 15 contents of check list about infant basic life support by one or two persons, by dividing into 8 subcategories, the experimental group is statistically meaningful higher (p<0.05) than the control group in process of keeping airway, indentifying breathing, identifying pulse, 30 compressions, Ability to perform all the processes. There isn't statistically significant difference between the groups in process of checking reaction, reporting 119, and artificial respiration by giving 2 breaths(p<0.05). Conclusion : As summarizing the results, the group, receiving using video, gets higher points of knowledge of basic life support and operating skill than the general educated group. It is found that the Video simulation training could be effective, because of these positive effects to improve clinical working performance of students, who participate in the department of Emergency Medical Technology.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency treatment that stimulates blood circulation and breathing when the function of the heart stops or stops breathing. CPR can be divided by basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS). BLS involves the use of chest compression to force the blood flow to the main organs, rescue breathing to improve the breathing to the respiratory failure patient and the use automated external defibrillator (AED). The categories of advanced life support include advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) for adult and pediatric advanced life support (PALS) for children. In the treatment of dental care for children, which is extremely difficult to deal with, and for a variety of reasons, the use of sedation is considered to treat the children who are unlikely to cooperate with dentistry. This is why there is an increasing possibility of an emergency situation involving cardiac arrest. PALS includes the BLS, and it presents a systematic algorithm to treat respiratory failure, shock and cardiogenic cardiac arrest. In order to manage emergency situations in the pediatric dental clinic, respiratory support is most important. Therefore, mastering professional PALS, which includes respiratory care and core cases, particularly upper airway obstruction and respiratory depression caused by a respiratory control problem, would be highly desirable for a physician who treats pediatric dental patients. Regular training and renewal training every two years is necessary to be able to immediately implement professional skills in emergency situations.

This study compares the rapidity and subjective convenience of T-AED and SC-AED for health care providers and the general public. Subjects were randomly allocated to T-AED (n=77) and SC-AED (n=79) groups. Each group conducted defibrillation, with subsequent measurement of the rapidity of defibrillation in peri-shock pause, pre-shock pause, hesitation pause, and post-shock pause. Defibrillation and chest compression delay times for both equipment were analyzed by t-test. On conclusion of the experiment, subjects answered a questionnaire on the subjective convenience of defibrillation, as measured for confidence, convenience, and clear decision. Comparisons of subjective convenience analyzed by t-test revealed significantly shortened peri-shock pause (11.22s), pre-shock pause (11.04s), and hesitation pause (2.15s) in the SC-AED group, as compared to the T-AED group (p<0.001). However, no significant differences were observed for post-shock pause values. Comparing subjective convenience, confidence (T-AED: 7.62±1.25VAS vs. SC-AED: 7.80±0.98VAS, p=0.358) was not significant, whereas convenience (T-AED: 7.05±1.36VAS vs. SC-AED: 8.95±0.89VAS, p<0.001) and clear decision (T-AED: 6.58±1.73VAS vs. SC-AED: 9.08±0.98VAS, p=0.001) showed statistically significant differences. Our results indicate that compared to T-AED, SC-AED has significantly shortened pauses. Moreover, it is more convenient for the user, and significantly aids in clear decisions.

A 59-year-old man with no specific medical or family history complained of chest pain and became unconscious. A member of his family, who was a witness, called 119 and gave him dispatcher-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation, followed by defibrillation using an automated external defibrillator placed in his apartment. Afterward, he was given two sessions of defibrillation by the 119 emergency squad, then transferred to an emergency medical center with the return of spontaneous circulation. The patient was discharged with cerebral performance category (CPC) 1 15 days later. While dispatcher-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation is at its beginning stage in South Korea, this case seems to demonstrate its effectiveness. Moreover, this case suggests it can be particularly useful for helping untrained witnesses use an automated external defibrillator, which may have important implications in regions in which there are delayed responses of the 119 emergency squad to the site. It is also important to develop a plan for improving witness access to and quantitative supply of the South Korean public access defibrillation (PAD) program.

In this study were analyzed the errors on the registration of details information, location of E-GEN (Emergency medical-GEN) AED (Automated External Defibrillator) installation site and the adequacy of spatial arrangement, which suggests an improvement methods of constructing an app or web based on time and space data for efficient operation of considering accessibility and usability. As a result of this study, first, it was not equal to each other for locations of each installation point of AED, that confirmed some area were dense or requiring additional installation. Second, it confirmed the inaccuracies in inputting and registering information about the installed location, such as the actual installation location information and the attribute information of the AED. Third, the main access node and the main address node were connected to a straight line that was found not be connected to the back door, the straight line, the stairs. Also, the opening times of AED installation sites varied according to the week and the season, the entrance was managed by the apartment management office in a separate place, it needs to be established on this information. In conclusion, it proposed a method to improve spatial equity and accessibility, a method to provide accurate distance and time according to actual movement routes in case of emergency, and a possibility of using each facility considering day and time.
This study is to develop a basic life support (BLS) app using the android based smartphone and to evaluate the function of the app. Suggested app contains chest compression feedback function, the map of automated external defibrillator (AED), direct emergency call and the basic knowledge of BLS. Using the accelerometer of the smartphone, we implemented a real-time algorithm that estimates the chest compression depth and rate for high quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The accuracy of algorithm was evaluated by manikin experiment. We made contents which were easy to learn the BLS for the layperson and implemented a function that provides the AED location information based on the user's current location. From the manikin experiment, the chest compression depth and rate were no significant differences between the manikin data and the app's feedback data (p > 0.05). Developed BLS app was uploaded on Google Play Store and it was free to download. We expected that this app is useful to learn the BLS for the layperson.
