  • Recently, the use of ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) has increased due to increase in leisure activities, and the awareness of safety and traffic accidents has improved, but it still insignificant compared to other transportation. Therefore, in this study, the current status and characteristics of traffic accidents related to ATVs were investigated, and actual ATV accident was analyzed. As a result, it was confirmed that the condition of the braking system directly connected to the safety of the ATV was not well maintained. For driver safety in the future, it is considered that it is necessary to strengthen safety regulations related to experience centers and rental companies handling AVTs and to conduct regular inspections in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Management Act.

  • This paper presents a simulation tool for developing and evaluating automated driving systems' lane change algorithm in urban congested traffic. The behavior of surrounding vehicles was modeled based on driver driving data measured in urban congested traffic. Surrounding vehicles are divided into aggressive vehicles and non-aggressive vehicles. The degree of aggressiveness is determined according to the lateral position to initiate interaction with the vehicle in the next lane. In addition, the desired velocity and desired time gap of each vehicle are all randomly assigned. The simulation was conducted by reflecting the cognitive limitations and control performance of the autonomous vehicle. It was possible to confirm the change in the lane change performance according to the variation of the lane change decision algorithm.

  • In recent years, the technology for autonomous driving has been advancing rapidly, ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) functions, which improve driver convenience and safety performance, are mostly equipped in recently released vehicles and range from level 0 to level 2 in autonomous driving technology. Among the various functions of ADAS, AEBS (Autonomous Emergency Braking System), which analyzes traffic accidents, is the most closely related to the vehicle's braking. This study developed a simulation technique for reproducing accidents related to AEBS based on real vehicle experimental data, and it was applied to the analysis of actual ADAS vehicle accidents to identify the causes of accidents.

  • Recent advancements in vehicle driving data analysis have attracted significant attention as a key research area aimed at optimizing driving behavior and enhancing vehicle performance. This study aims to collect operational data from drivers, including steering angle, longitudinal acceleration, brake usage, and wheel speed, and to cluster driving segments based on their characteristics using deep learning techniques. To achieve this, we employed a methodology that integrates the LSTM-Autoencoder model, which captures essential features of time-series data through compression and reconstruction, with an Attention mechanism. The driving segments were clustered and visually represented with distinct colors for clarity. Experimental results from the proposed approach demonstrated an over 96% accuracy in aligning input and output values, facilitating the clustering of driving segments based on their distinctive features. These findings provide valuable insights for improving driver behavior and optimizing vehicle assistance systems, potentially contributing to significant advancements in this field of research.

  • In this paper, we propose an improved event data recorder (EDR) storage data that can determine the cause of unintentional acceleration of a vehicle. The proposed EDR storage data includes whether the mechanical parking brake is applied or not and whether the electronic parking brake (EPB) is applied or not. To validate the proposed EDR storage data, the types, configurations, and main functions of the EPB were studied to verify that the driver can stop the vehicle through dynamic braking by the EPB while driving, and the vehicle speed, the wheel speed of each wheel, and the vehicle deceleration data were obtained through CAN while conducting a practical test under low mue conditions.

  • In this study, it was proposed to apply the existing driver liability and compulsory automobile insurance system applied to general cars and Level 3 automated vehicles in relation to the responsibility of autonomous driving, ensuring safety, and strengthening accident liability, and to establish a definition of an autonomous driving supervisor who remotely supports autonomous driving and to purchase liability insurance. In addition, in the case of an autonomous vehicle accident caused by the intentional or negligent act of the autonomous driving supervisor, an amendment was proposed to allow insurance companies to compensate for damages to the person legally liable for damages, and an amendment to define the autonomous driving supervision insured and add it as an insured.

  • Vehicle safety device such as active headrest and rear detection system has been developing as people are interested about rear end collision more than head on or than front. However, there is no any standard or criterion in order to evaluate vehicle safety device for rear end collision. Also there is no test protocol about rear end collision in vehicle experiment. Therefore, this research developed scenario for experiment about rear end collision in vehicle experiment. Also this research evaluated dangerousness about vehicle test and fitness about re-enacting rear end collision using scenario developed using commercial software (PC-Crash) which can re-enact vehicle collision in virtual vehicle experiment. Scenario developed according to statistics from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and German In-Depth Accident Study. Scenario has twelve cases which composed of Re-LVS (Rear end Leading Vehicle Stop), Re-LVM (Rear end Lead Vehicle Moving) and scenario for evaluation about malfunction of active headrest.

  • The Korea's automobile safety standards consist of standards for automobiles, automated vehicles, two-wheeled vehicles and auto parts, and there are 157 articles. In connection with the safety standards, the implementation rules stipulated for detailed test methods and procedures are composed of the main body, asterisks and annexes, and have a rather complicated structure. In addition, the test items in the asterisk are specified with the same or similar name as the test items in other asterisks. In this study, the structure of these implementation rules is simplified and the same test items are integrated. This is expected to increase the user's understanding of laws and regulations and efficiency.
