A Study on the Determination of Optimal Auto-reclosing (최적 재폐로방식 선정에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a reliability and power quality taken account of the reclosing scheme on the power distribution system. To determine the optimal reclosing scheme, the simple radial distribution system is modelled, and analyzes quantitatively the effect of customer's load to the number of reclosing. The result of the analysis shows that the determined reclosing scheme can satisfy both the reliability and the power quality in the power distribution system.

  • Most of faults occurring in transmission lines are transient faults. For such faults, automatic reclosing is economic and effective method to improve the reliability and transient stability of power system. Many countries apply various reclosing schemes considering issues of their own systems such as transient stability, rate of success. Currently, different reclosing schemes are applied in Korean transmission systems according to a rated voltage. In this paper, we conduct an evaluation of reclosing schemes in Korean transmission systems considering transient stability. Computer simulations are performed by using ElectroMagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) and transmission system is modeled based on actual data of Korea.

An Adaptive Reclosing Algorithm to Discriminate between Permanent Fault and Transient Fault using THD of Voltage Waveform (전압파형의 THD를 이용한 영구/일시고장 판별 적응형 재폐로 기법)

  • This paper presents a new adaptive single-phase auto reclosure (SPAR) algorithm to discriminate between a permanent fault and a transient fault and to minimize a protection dead time. The algorithm precisely detects the extinction of the secondary arc, based on THD's profiles on the faulted phase voltage waveform. The EMTP/ATPDraw program was used to simulate the single phase grounding fault for evaluating the proposed algorithm. And the simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is performing well.

  • This paper presents a new numerical algorithm suitable for defining recloser reclaims time and blocking automatic reclosing during permanent faults on overhead lines. It is based on terminal voltage input data processing. The decision if it is safe or not to reclose is determined from the voltage signal of faulted and tripped line phase using Total Harmonic Distortion factor calculated by Discrete Fourier Transform. The algorithm was successfully tested using signals recorded on the real power system. The tests demonstrate the ability of presented algorithm to determine the secondary arc extinction time and to block unsuccessful automatic reclosing of HV lines with permanent fault.

Analysis of Simulation Results for Secondary Arc in 765kV single transmission line (765kV 1회선 선로의 2차아크 모의결과 분석)

  • In many countries, including Korea, in order to transmit the more electric power, the higher transmission line voltage is inevitable. So, a rapid reclosing scheme is important for UHV transmission lines to ensure requirements for high reliability of main lines. But, because of the high voltage and long span of UHV lines, the secondary arc current flows across the fault point even after the interruption of the fault current. i.e. A critical aspect of reclosing operation is the extinction of the secondary arc since it must extinguish before successful reclosure can occur. In Korea transmission lines, it is scheduled to energize 765kV single transmission line(79km) between Sin-Ansung S/S and Sin-Gapyeong S/S at June 2006. Therefore this paper analyzes characteristics of the secondary arc extinction on 765kV single transmission line using EMTP. Simulation results shows that the average value of the secondary arc is $30A_{rms}$ and the auto-extinction time of it is longer at closer point to Sin-Gapyeong S/S.
