  • This paper proposes an augmented reality application called augmented book. The augmented book provides an interface to the virtual objects and virtual environments using a real book. In the augmented book a user observes and manipulates the 3D visualization of virtual objects. Three different types of markers are introduced for the manipulation of virtual objects. By moving the control marker, the user controls the virtual objects. Our augmented book can be used as an interface for various kinds of 3D contents such as contents of real books or product catalogs.

  • Recently, research on augmented games as a new game genre has attracted a lot of attention. An augmented game overlaps virtual objects in an augmented reality(AR) environment, allowing game players to interact with the AR environment through manipulating real and virtual objects. However, it is difficult to release existing augmented games to ordinary game players, as the games generally use very expensive and inconvenient 'backpack' systems: To solve this problem, several augmented games have been proposed using mobile devices equipped with cameras, but it can be only enjoyed at a previously-installed location, as a ‘color marker' or 'pattern marker’ is used to overlap the virtual object with the real environment. Accordingly, this paper introduces an augmented game, called augmented galaga based on traditional well-known galaga, executed on mobile devices to make game players experience the game without any economic burdens. Augmented galaga uses real object in real environments, and uses scale-invariant features(SIFT), and Euclidean distance to recognize the real objects. The virtural aliens are randomly appeared around the specific objects, several specific objects are used to improve the interest aspect, andgame players attack the virtual aliens by moving the mobile devices towards specific objects and clicking a button of mobile devices. As a result, we expect that augmented galaga provides an exciting experience without any economic burdens for players based on the game paradigm, where the user interacts with both the physical world captured by a mobile camera and the virtual aliens automatically generated by a mobile devices.

  • This paper suggests a collision techniques for a higher reality in augmented reality by processing collision between a real object obtained through video frame input and a marker-based virtual object or a virtual object from Opengl. Augmented reality system is providing the visual information containing a virtual object added to the real environment and interactive interface between objects and between user and objects becomes a more concerning interest. But the collision problem is essential to the interactive interface and has to be solved first. Therefore, the proposed system suggests a solution for it to increase the realism and the immersion by validating the collision among a marker-based object, a virtual object from Opengl, and a real object obtained through web camera, that is, video frame.

  • We In this study, We tested for artificial intelligence-based virtual space story books were planned. The proposed virtual space concept, a story book with the characteristics of Augmented Virtuality, was implemented Several steps are needed to proceed with the virtual space storybook's story. First, a user brings a real object in to virtual space and recognizes the real object with an artificial intelligence-based object-recognition software. Second, when object recognition progresses, the virtual 3D model is augmented in the virtual space, which is then inserted into the virtual space and rendered. Finally, software projected a virtual space storybook on the desk in which users can touch and select real-objects. This virtual space storybook was implemented using the new story-making technology by applying the virtual space concept. the Augmented Virtuality concept is to augment real objects based on virtual space. To confirm this we tested a user test using the virtual space storybook. the user seemed as if can the distinction between real objects and virtual images. Also very well and that understood the process of putting the real objects in virtual space.

  • Pervasive augmented reality (AR) technology can be used to efficiently search for the required information regarding products in stores through text augmentation in an Internet of Things (IoT) environment. The evolution of context awareness and image processing technologies are the main driving forces that realize this type of AR service. One of the problems to be addressed in the service is that augmented objects are fixed and cannot be replaced efficiently in real time. To address this problem, a real-time mobile AR framework is proposed. In this framework, an optimal object to be augmented is selected based on object similarity comparison, and the augmented objects are efficiently managed using distributed metadata servers to adapt to the user requirements, in a given situation. To evaluate the feasibility of the proposed framework, a prototype system was implemented, and a qualitative evaluation based on questionnaires was conducted. The experimental results show that the proposed framework provides a better user experience than existing features in smartphones, and through fast AR service, the users are able to conveniently obtain additional information on products or objects.

  • Mobile devices such as smartphones are very attractive targets for augmented reality (AR) services, but their limited resources make it difficult to increase the number of objects to be recognized. When the recognition process is scaled to a large number of objects, it typically requires significant computation time and memory. Therefore, most large-scale mobile AR systems rely on a server to outsource recognition process to a high-performance PC, but this limits the scenarios available in the AR services. As a part of realizing large-scale standalone mobile AR, this paper presents a solution to the problem of accuracy, memory, and speed for large-scale object recognition. To this end, we design our own basic feature and realize spatial locality, selective feature extraction, rough pose estimation, and selective feature matching. Experiments are performed to verify the appropriateness of the proposed method for realizing large-scale standalone mobile AR in terms of efficiency and accuracy.

  • In general, GIS provides a user with geographical information according to his requirements after a computer stores digitized spatial data from real scenes. Geographical information from digitized spatial data lacks of reality due to the exclusion of real scenes. However, Augmented Reality(AR) allows a user to see the real world with virtual objects superimposed upon or composited with the real world. Therefore it enhances a user's perception of the real world. In this paper, we present the development on 3D geographical information guide system using augmented reality that displays the real world with virtual objects such as building name, road name, etc., in real time.

  • A core technology for implementation of Augmented Reality is to develop a merging algorithm between interesting 3-D objects and real images. In this paper, we present a 3-D object recognition method to decide viewing direction toward the object from camera. This process is the starting point to merge with real image and 3-D objects. Perspective projection between a camera and 3-dimentional objects defines a plane in 3-D space that is from a line in an image and the focal point of the camera. If no errors with perfect 3-D models were introduced in during image feature extraction, then model lines in 3-D space projecting onto this line in the image would exactly lie in this plane. • In tangible augmented reality (AR) environments for virtual prototyping, the user interacts with virtual products by manipulating tangible objects with his or her hands, but the user often encounter awkward situations in which his or her hands are occluded by augmented virtual objects, which reduces both immersion and ease of interaction. In this paper, we present how to resolve such hand region occlusion in order to enhance natural interaction and immersive visualization. In the AR environment considered, we use two types (product-type and pointer-type) of tangible objects for tangible user interaction with a virtual product of interest. Holding the tangible objects with his or her hands, the user can create input events by touching specified regions of the product-type tangible object with the pointer-type tangible object. We developed a method for resolving hand region occlusion frequently arising during such user interaction, It first detect hand region in a real image and refines the rendered image of the virtual object by subtracting the hand region from the rendered image, Then, it superimposes the refined image onto the real image to obtain an image in which the occlusion is resolved. Incorporated into tangible AR interaction for virtual prototyping of handheld products such as cellular phones and MP3 players, the method has been found by a preliminary user study that it is not only useful to improve natural interaction and immersive visualization of virtual products, but also helpful for making the users experience the products' shapes and functions better.

  • Recently, augmented reality technology has received much attention in many fields. This paper presents an augmented reality system using Rubiks' Cube which can augment various 3D objects depending on patterns of a Rubiks' cube. The system first detects a cube from an image using partitional clustering and strongly connected graph. Thereafter, the system detects the top side of the cube and finds a proper pattern to determine which object should be augmented. An object corresponding to the pattern is finally augmented according to the camera viewpoint. Experimental results show that the proposed system successfully augments various virtual objects in real time.
