  • Deep learning techniques provide powerful solutions to several pattern-recognition problems, including Raman spectral classification. However, these networks require large amounts of labeled data to perform well. Labeled data, which are typically obtained in a laboratory, can potentially be alleviated by data augmentation. This study investigated various data augmentation techniques and applied multiple deep learning methods to Raman spectral classification. Raman spectra yield fingerprint-like information about chemical compositions, but are prone to noise when the particles of the material are small. Five augmentation models were investigated to build robust deep learning classifiers: weighted sums of spectral signals, imitated chemical backgrounds, extended multiplicative signal augmentation, and generated Gaussian and Poisson-distributed noise. We compared the performance of nine state-of-the-art convolutional neural networks with all the augmentation techniques. The LeNet5 models with background noise augmentation yielded the highest accuracy when tested on real-world Raman spectral classification at 88.33% accuracy. A class activation map of the model was generated to provide a qualitative observation of the results.

  • Deep neural networks have shown remarkable performance in various areas, including image classification and speech recognition. The variety of data generated by augmentation plays an important role in improving the performance of the neural network. The transformation of data in the augmentation process makes it possible for neural networks to be learned more generally through more diverse forms. In the traditional field of image process, not only new augmentation methods have been proposed for improving the performance, but also exploring methods for an optimal augmentation policy that can be changed according to the dataset and structure of networks. Inspired by the prior work, this paper aims to explore to search for an optimal augmentation policy in the field of sound data. We carried out many experiments randomly combining various augmentation methods such as adding noise, pitch shift, or time stretch to empirically search which combination is most effective. As a result, by applying the optimal data augmentation policy we achieve the improved classification accuracy on the environmental sound classification dataset (ESC-50).

  • The present paper investigated the correlation between the acoustic pressure variations and the augmentation of heat transfer in the ultrasonic induced acoustic fields. The augmentation ratios of heat transfer coefficient were experimentally measured and were compared with the profile of the pressure distribution in the acoustic fields predicted by numerical analysis. For numerical analysis, a coupled finite element-boundary element method (coupled FE-BEM) was applied. The results of the present study reveal that the acoustic pressure is higher near two ultrasonic transducers than other points where no ultrasonic transducer was installed. The augmentation trend of heat transfer is similar with the profile of the acoustic pressure distribution. In other words, as the acoustic pressure increases, the higher augmentation ratio of heat transfer is obtained. Numerical and experimental studies clearly show that the acoustic pressure variations are closely related to the augmentation of heat transfer in the acoustic fields.

  • Ideal results of augmentation mammaplasty consist of symmetry, natural shape, soft feeling and inconspicuous scar. In addition, patient's preferences about size and shape should be included. Static implants could not perfectly satisfy patients' desires for size and shape, but expandable implants enable to change the volume after the operation. From September 2001 to September 2004, 76 patients(150 breasts) underwent breast augmentation using permanent expandable implant. The procedure was unilateral in 2 women and bilateral in 74 women. Age ranged from 19 to 50 years(mean, 29 years). Fifty nine patients underwent simple augmentation mammaplasty, 7 patients were corrected of their severe asymmetry, 2 patients with the congenital breast deformity underwent mammaplasty using this, and 2 patients who had undergone unilateral mastectomy were reconstructed of their breasts using expandable implant. There were no definite complications such as capsular contracture, implant rupture, asymmetry. And there reported little dissatisfaction about the size. The permanent expandable implants might be good alternatives in cases of ordinary breast augmentation as well as tissue deficient patients, asymmetry, congenital anomaly, and breast reconstruction.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of $HTR^{TM}$ (hard tissue replacement, Bioplant Inc, U.S.A) polymer on short-term healing as a grafting material for alveolar ridge augmentation. A 48-year-old female presented insufficient bone height and width for the placement of implants. $HTR^{TM}$ polymer was used for ridge augmentation. Bone biopsy was harvested 8 months after the ridge augmentation procedure. $HTR^{TM}$ polymer displayed rapid bone regeneration and mature lamellar and trabecular bone redevelopment. Clinical and histologic observation from the treatment of the patient presented suggest that $HTR^{TM}$ polymer seems to be a appropriate material for alveolar ridge augmentation.

  • If the flow of booster gas which is exhausted to the rear part of a canister is properly restricted in the canister of a hot-launch system, the resultant pressure built up in the canister provides additional force to accelerate the missile to a required launch velocity. These thrust augmentation performances can be controlled through the configuration design of baseplate orifices. In this paper, the simple technique to analyze the thrust augmentation performances of baseplate orifices is suggested and the thrust augmentation characteristics by its various configurations are compared. According to the initial displacement of a missile, the inner pressure of a canister is measured from scaled cold flow tests, and the discharge coefficient of baseplate orifices is calculated. Then the thrust augmentation in a canister is simulated by applying these discharge characteristics to the AMESIM software for launch dynamics.

  • Purpose: The reverse abdominoplasty has been reported infrequently as a procedure to improve the upper abdominal wall contour. Especially, there have been rare cases on the surgical techniques with augmentation mammoplasty using implant. It is known to maintain the result. Methods: This is a retrospective review of the senior surgeon's patients who underwent reverse abdominoplasty with augmentation mammoplasty. A 63-year-old female was dissatisfied with her contracted breast and upper abdominal contour after previous abdominal wall liposuction. We performed reverse abdominoplasty with augmentation mammoplasty through same inframammary incision. Results: There was a significant improvement of the upper abdominal wall and breast contour. There was no perioperative complication. The patients was satisfied with the results and retained a good shape during the 3 months follow-up periods. Conclusion: Reverse abdominoplasty with augmentation mammoplasty is an acceptable technique that provides good results and should be considered in cases of upper abdominal laxity with capsular contracture on both breasts.

  • Defect detection during liquid crystal display (LCD) manufacturing has always been a critical challenge. This study aims to address this issue by proposing a data augmentation method based on generative adversarial networks (GAN) to improve defect identification accuracy in LCD production. By leveraging synthetically generated image data from GAN, we effectively augment the original dataset to make it more representative and diverse. This data augmentation strategy enhances the model's generalization capability and robustness on real-world data. Compared to traditional data augmentation techniques, the synthetic data from GAN are more realistic, diverse and broadly distributed. Experimental results demonstrate that training models with GAN-generated data combined with the original dataset significantly improves the detection accuracy of critical defects in LCD manufacturing, compared to using the original dataset alone. This study provides an effective data augmentation approach for intelligent quality control in LCD production.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the radiative heat transfer augmentation by a coaxial cylinder introduced in the infinite cylindrical pipe enclosing a participating gas. The gas is either a mixture of water vapor and carbon dioxide or gray. The gas is assumed to be homogeneous at a constant temperature, and has a refractive index of unity. All of the surfaces are opaque and gray, diffusely emitting and reflecting at a constant temperature, The effect of system diameter, diameter ratio, wall emittances, gas and surface temperatures, mixture component on heat transfer augmentation are studied by using the zone method with participating gas radiative properties evaluated from the weighted sum of gray gases model. From the radiative equilibrium condition, the installed wall temperature is formulated and calculated by the iteration method. If the medium is a gray gas, the augmentation observed are negligible. For the range of values studied for a real gas, if the system diameter is larger than about 0.1m the augmentation parameter increases up to about 1.2 as the system diameter increases. The augmentation parameter have a maximum value at a certain diameter ratio. The augmentation parameters decreases as the emittance of the installed wall decreases. If the gas temperature is higher than about 1273 k, the augmentation parameter decreases as the gas temperature increases.

  • Purpose: Even though Augmentation rhinoplasty is very popular surgical procedure, it is not easy to obtain ideal materials for augmentation. Many different synthetic materials are used but frequent complications are seen such as infection, extrusion, deform, and dislocation. Autologous tissues were used for augmentation rhinoplasty. We used dermofat graft and fat injection in augmentation rhinoplasty minimizing these problems. Methods: From 2006 to 2009, we used autologous tissues in augmentation rhinoplasty in 40 patients, 20 patients with dermofat graft and other 20 patients were treated with fat injection only. Dermofats were harvested from sacral area. gluteal fold, groin and preexisting scar tissue. Dermofats were inserted with small stab wound and fat tissues were injected as Coleman's technique. The patients were followed up 6 months to 5 years. Results: Most of the patients were satisfied in shape and height the nose. Early complications such as hematoma, infection and seroma were not found. Secondary fat injection was performed in 3 patients (15%) of dermofat graft group instead of 7 patients (35%) of fat injection only group. Conclusion: We obtained satisfactory results in augmentation rhinoplasty with dermofat graft and fat injection. Secondary fat injections were more often in fat injection group than dermofat graft group. Dermofat graft and fat injection could be another alternative technique for augmentation rhinoplasty and fat injection could be a secondary adjunctive treatment for undercorrection due to absorption.
