For achieving the objectives of the study, the questionnaire consisted of a total of 50 competency factors, adding personal characteristics area to the ISO 19011-based specialized knowledge and job skills areas and the survey was conducted on the currently active ISO auditors with a five-point recert scale. Based on the results of the survey, the importance and present of ISO auditors in 3 competency areas were verified statistically significant difference through a t-test. The top priority and next priority competency factors for the overall competency and each competency areas were obtained through the Borich coefficient and the Locus for Focus Model. Considering the top priority competency factors in each competency areas identified from the study results, it can help develop related auditing curriculum. for improving the auditors' competency, and furthermore, it is expected to help strengthen ISO management system including quality, health & safety, environment and business continuity for companies.
The intial public offerings(IPO) issued by going public must be decided duly and seriously. In these sense, this paper reviewed and analysed synthetically the theories and the empirical studies on the IPO. The implications about the empirical studies on the IPO in korea stock exchanges(KSE) are as follows: First, evaluating the IPO's intrinsic value, the issued firm's characteristics(style, scale, age, reevaluation and goodwill etc.) and business environments(industry, economic states, regulations and the relation with government etc.) will be considered. Evaluating the IPO's relative value, the stock price of firms registered in KOSDAQ market will be appreciated. Second, the income smoothing of an IPO listed in KSE accrued in the first and second years. Accordingly if auditors audit the accounting reports of firms to list in KSE by going public, they should more concern to the income smoothing on the accounting reports. Third, the information accuracy of investment banks and the qualities of auditors negatively correlated with the underpricing of an IPO. It is need to promote the information accuracy of investment banks and the qualities of auditors. Regulatory organizations support to promote the information accuracy of investment banks and the qualities of auditors. Forth, the investors interested in the IPO are to recognize the follows. (1) Relations between the underpricing of an IPO and the ratio of public participation, the issue price, the offer size, the insider ownership, the net asset value per share, the price decision system of an IPO. (2) An entrepreneurs who decided to bring his firm public would like to issue the IPO when company's operating conditions are good.

This study examines the effect of financial reporting opacity and audit quality on stock price crash risk using listed firms in Japan. This study is the first research to examine the effect of financial reporting opacity on crash risk using a Japanese listed company. Furthermore, the effect of audit quality on crash risk is verified. High level auditors can mitigate crash risk by playing a role as a corporate governance device mechanism to reduce agency costs. We use a logistic regression and linear regression model to test whether financial reporting opacity and audit quality affect crash risk using listed firms in the Japanese stock exchange market during the fiscal years 2015 January through 2017 February. The results of this study suggest that the financial reporting opacity variable shows a positive relationship with CRASH, which states that a firm with more opaque financial reporting increases crash risk. The results suggest also that the firms audited by Big4 auditors experience less crash risk, implying that the audit quality in Japan can be one of the factors mitigating firm's crash risk. This study provides implications for financial reporting and audit quality to external stakeholders who wants to avoid losses.

Information Technology (IT) and the internet have been major drivers the changes in all aspects of the business processes and activities. They have brought major changes to the financial statements audit environment as well, which in turn has required modifications in audit procedures. There exist, however, certain difficulties with current audit procedures especially for the assessment of the level of control risk. This assessment is primarily based on the auditors' professional judgment and experiences, not based on the objective hies or criteria. To overcome these difficulties, this paper proposes a prototype decision support model named CRAS-CBR using case based reasoning (CBR) to support auditors in making their professional judgment on the assessment of the level of control risk of the general accounting system in the manufacturing industry. To validate the performance, we compare our proposed model with benchmark performances in terms of classification accuracy for the level of control risk. Our experimental results showed CRAS-CBR outperforms a statistical model (MDA) and staff auditor performance in average hit ratio.
Purpose: This study aims to investigate the impact of auditor-client traffic convenience on accrual -based and real earnings management of the client firms. Research design, data and methodology: Using a sample of firms listed in Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges over the period of 2007 to 2018, this paper empirically investigates the association between auditor-client traffic convenience and earnings management. We use three measures of auditor-client traffic convenience: railway traffic convenience, expressway traffic convenience, and air traffic convenience. The accrual-based earnings management is measured by abnormal accruals estimated by industry and year using the Modified Jones Model. Results: Findings indicate that traffic convenience is conducive to detecting and restraining positive accrual earnings management and real earnings management. After changing the measurement of independent variable and dependent variable, including potential omitted variables, the results are statistically unchanged. Further, the research shows that traffic convenience can not only improve audit quality, but also lead to higher fee premiums. Auditors didn't share with clients the cost reduction benefits caused by traffic convenience. Conclusions: Traffic convenience provides auditors with easy access to the client firms, alleviating the information asymmetry and improving corporate earnings quality. The findings have implications for regulators, audit practitioners and stakeholders.

This article provides empirical evidence on factors of internal audit (IA) characteristics affecting the internal audit effectiveness in steel enterprises in Vietnam. The study uses data from survey obtained from 114 responses representing owners, managers, and internal auditors from 38 steel enterprises in Vietnam for period from 2018 to 2019. Data collected is firstly checked with Cronbach's Alpha, then the EFA test, and the model linear regression is used to test the relationship between internal audit characteristics and internal audit effectiveness. Results reveal that internal audit effectiveness in steel enterprises in Vietnam is influenced by various internal factors, including the size of internal audit, the scope of internal audit, the capacity of internal auditors, the independence of internal auditor, and the operational bases and methods of internal audit. Based on the research results, the paper makes six recommendations: strengthening operational basis of IA; increasing the independence of IA; increasing the size and capacity of IA staff; expanding and not underestimate the scope of IA; and reforming the internal governance structure. These proposed recommendations could be applied, not only for steel companies in Vietnam, but also for other companies in Vietnam or other companies in jurisdictions that have similar conditions.

This study examines the association between a firm's business strategy and audit report lags. This study employs 5,072 firm-year observations from 2015 to 2019. Our sample comprises all of the firms listed on the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) market and Korea Securities Dealers Automated Quotation (KOSDAQ). We perform OLS regression analysis to test our hypothesis. The OLS regression analysis was conducted through the SAS and STATA programs. We find that business strategy is positively associated with audit report lags. Especially, we find that defender firms are negatively associated with audit report lags. The findings of this study suggest that prospector-like firms would increase their performance uncertainty as well as audit risk. Therefore, prospector-like firms interfere with the efficient audit procedures of auditors. On the other hand, our findings indicate that defender-like firms would decrease their performance uncertainty as well as an audit risk because they focus on simple product lines and cost-efficiency. For this reason, auditors will be able to carry out the audit procedures much more easily. Our results present that a prospector-like business strategy degrades audit effectiveness as it exacerbates a company's financial risk, willingness to accept uncertainty, and the complexity of organizational structure.
Purpose - The purpose of this study is to achieve effective system improvement and operation methods for the improvements on the ability of firms'preparation of the financial statements Design/methodology/approach - This study conducts a survey of not only the accounting staff but also accounting specialist such as CPA or CTA. Findings - For the improvements on the ability of firms'preparation of the financial statements, comprehensive improvement in accounting education is needed as follows. First, the focus of accounting education should be converted to the consolidated financial statements, case study and analysis of accounting standards. Second, Financial Supervisory Service and Korea Accounting Institute in cooperation with accountancy firm need to create an accounting education program. Third, the focus of accounting education should be converted to consumer oriented education by providing accounting knowledge with various methods of teaching. Fourth, this study suggests the creation of the committee on Accounting Education. Research implications or Originality - As a result of the incorrect practice of firms'relying on auditors to prepare the financial statements, social concerns about the reliability of accounting information are raised because the incorrect practice decreases the auditor's independence and weaken the auditor's ability to verify accounting information. Therefore, this study analyzes the current status of auditors'preparation of the financial statements.
Purpose - This study investigates the effect of auditor change on client firm's accounting (financial statement) comparability. Design/methodology/approach - The comparability of accounting information is measured by the difference in accruals between the two firms. Additionally, the study uses earnings-stock return relationship as another proxy of accounting comparability. In particular, the paper examines whether there is a systematic difference between initial audit years and the other years with respect to the client firm's accounting comparability. Moreover, current study tests how changes in auditor size or industry expertise before and after the switch of auditors affect the accounting comparability. Findings - The results show that the level of accounting comparability is lower in the year of auditor change than in the other years. Furthermore, this lower level of comparability is derived by the observations that switch their auditors from non-Big4 to non-Big4 or from non-specialist to non-specialist. These results are consistent when accounting comparability is measured by different proxies. Research implications or Originality - The findings of this study provide important policy implications for the regulations related with auditor selection.

Fraudulent financial reporting practices can have significant consequences for organizations and all stakeholders, as well as, for public confidence in the capital and security markets. In fact, comprehensive, accurate and reliable financial reporting is the bedrock upon which our markets are based. Keen to project a rosy picture of the Satyam to investors, employees and analysts, Mr. Raju (CEO and Chairman) fudged the account books so that it appeared to be a far bigger enterprise, with high profits and fast growth rate, than it actually was. The Satyam fraud has shattered the dreams of different categories of investors, shocked the government and regulators alike, and led to questioning of the accounting practices of statutory auditors and corporate governance norms in India. This is an exploratory study based on secondary sources of information. An attempt has been made to provide an explanation for various intriguing questions about Satyam scam. After thorough investigations by the CBI and SEBI, they have unveiled the methodology by which Satyam fraud was engineered. Finally, we recommend "Fraudulent reporting practices should be considered as a serious crime, and accounting bodies, courts and other regulatory authorities in India need to adopt very strict punitive measures to stop such unethical practices."
