There has been much advancement in reality enhancement using audio-visual information. On the other hand, there is little research on provision of olfactory information because smell is difficult to implement and control. In order to obtain necessary basic data when intend to provide smell for video reality, in this research, we investigated user perception of smell in diverse videos and then classified the videos based on the collected user perception data. To do so, we chose five main questions which were 'whether smell is present in the video'(smell presence), 'whether one desire to experience the smell with the video'(preference for smell presence with the video), 'whether one likes the smell itself'(preference for the smell itself), 'desired smell intensity if it is presented with the video'(smell intensity), and 'the degree of smell concreteness'(smell concreteness). After sampling video clips of various genre which are likely to receive either high and low ratings in the questions, we had participants watch each video after which they provided ratings on 7-point scale for the above five questions. Using the rating data for each video clips, we constructed scatter plots by pairing the five questions and representing the rating scale of each paired questions as X-Y axes in 2 dimensional spaces. The video clusters and distributional shape in the scatter plots would provide important insight into characteristics of each video clusters and about how to present olfactory information for video reality.

Many local governments in Korea provide online services for people to easily access the audio-visual archives of events occurring in the area. However, the current method of managing these archives of the local governments has several problems in terms of compatibility with other organizations and convenience for searching of the archives because of the lack of standard metadata and the low utilization of image information. To solve these problems, we propose the metadata design and machine learning-based automatic indexing technology for the efficient management of the image archives of local governments in Korea. Moreover, we design metadata items specialized for the image archives of local governments to improve the compatibility and include the elements that can represent the basic information and characteristics of images into the metadata items, enabling efficient management. In addition, the text and objects in images, which include pieces of information that reflect events and categories, are automatically indexed based on the machine learning technology, enhancing users' search convenience. Lastly, we developed the program that automatically extracts text and objects from image archives using the proposed method, and stores the extracted contents and basic information in the metadata items we designed.
Now, Korea-U.S.A Free Trade Agreement talk is underway in Korea. In FTA talks, the issues on audio-visual sector including screen quota, opening of broadcasting and telecommunication to the U.S.A. are becoming a hot potato. Globalization has been speed up by mass media and telecommunications. Cultures are no longer bounded by specific place but, through the migration of persons and the electronic flows of information, ideas and images, transgress established boundaries. So issues and debates have to be focused on global culture and cultural imperialism. Some would argue global culture is the consequences of capitalist world-system, so dominance by the center should be criticized and vanished. Some would say that global culture would help recipient society's people with cultural diversify and improvement. The issues on culture and communication, particularly at international level call for our attention in light of cultural identity, homogenization and diversity. Although I criticize the cultural imperialism thesis, I suggest critical acceptance of cultural imperialism. That is the observation of complexity between internal and external dynamics. The process of cultural imperialism is not simple and unitary. It rather involves the various forces of internal dynamics along with external forces.

The main objective of this study was to develop a concept of service marketing promotion in nursing that is derived from the concepts of service marketing theory. This research was a descriptive study, at the factor isolation level. The principle of concept derivation suggested by Walker and Avant (1988) and the Hybrid model suggested by Schwarz-Barcott and Kim (1993) were employed as the research method. The data were collected from December, 1997 to April. 1998 at a large general hospital located in Seoul. The procedures of this study were as follows: First. at the theoretical phase: the meaning, attributes, and definition of service marketing promotion were identified through an extensive review of the literature. Second, at the empirical phase: fieldwork was done to identify the promotional activities and events in nursing. Top nurse managers from 4 units (Director of Nursing, Head nurses of inpatient nursing unit, outpatient nursing unit. and home care nursing unit) were interviewed and the content of the interview was analyzed to identify the meaning and attributes of promotion in nursing. Other methods such as brochures and other audio-visual materials which were relevant to nursing promotion were used to supplement the interviews. Finally, the results of the theoretical and empirical analyses were intergrated to develop a concept of service marketing in nursing practice. A final definition of service marketing promotion in nursing was identified as follows. 1. Promotion as a marketing function in nursing service is concerned with communication to target markets on all information related to nursing service in order to satisfy the objectives of both a nursing service organization and the target markets. 2. The goals of nursing service promotion include: 1) increasing visibility of nursing services and delivering the information on nursing services, 2) affirming the value of nursing services, so it can contribute to formulation of reimbursement policy for nursing services. 3) advancing the general image of the nursing profession and nursing services. 4) achieving and attaining a desirable positioning for nurses among health care professionals. and 5) creating and stimulating the demand for nursing services. 3. In order to obtain these goals it is necessary to provide information on nursing services, to persuade target markets. to remind them about nursing services. and to establish a collaborative relationship with related departments. 4. The tools used to carry out the above functions of promotion in nursing are the providing nursing services, public relations and publicity. QA of nursing, advertising, and sales promotion. 5. The target markets of nursing service include the nursing customer markets. the internal markets, the influence markets. the recruitment markets. the supplier markets. and the nursing referral markets. In conclusion, the concept of promotion in other service marketing areas can be applied to the promotion of nursing service marketing. The promotion of nursing service is more than just effective communication in nursing service. it is the effective use of the concepts of service marketing promotion. Promotion of nursing service will contribute to create and expand nursing services.

Interoperability and inter-working in the various network and media environment with different technology background is very important to enlarge the opportunity of service access and to increase the competitive power of service. The ITU-T and advanced counties are planning ahead for provision of GII enabling user to access advanced global communication services supporting multimedia communication applications, embracing all modes of information. In this paper, we especially forced the heterogeneity of end user applications for multimedia networking. The heterogeneity has several technical aspects, like different medium access methods, heterogeneous coding algorithms for audio-visual data and so on. Among these elements, we have been itemized bit rate shaping algorithm on the compressed moving video. Previous manipulations of video has been done on the uncompressed signal domain. That is, compressed video should be converted to linear PCM signal. To do such a procedures, we should decode, manipulate and then encode the video to compressed signal once again. The traditional approach for processing the video signa1 has several critical weak points, requiring complexity to implement, degradation of image quality and large processing delay. The bit rate shaping algorithm proposed in this paper process the manipulation of moving video on the completely compressed domain to cope with above deficit. With this algorithms. we could realized efficient video bit rate shaping and the result of software simulation shows that this method has significant advantage than that of pixel oriented algorithms.
In this paper, we propose a collaborative multimedia authoring system. Our authoring system represents a multimedia presentation in a 3D coordinate system. One axis represents the traditional timeline information (T-zone), and the other two axes represent spatial coordinates (XY-zone). Our system represents a visual media objects as a 3D parallelepipeds and audio media objects as cylinders. This interface allows for simultaneous authoring and manipulation of both the temporal and the spatial aspects of a presentation. Using our system, users can design multimedia presentations collaboratively in the unified spatio-temporal space while freely traversing the spatial domain and the temporal domain without changing the context of authoring. In addition, we suggest an efficient mechanism of concurrency control for shared objects generated by our collaborative writing system. The mechanism is mainly based on the user awareness, the multiple versions, and the access permission of shared objects. Our concurrency control mechanism is designed to keep data consistency by minimizing the collision due to the delay or the failure of network communication and to allow maximum responsiveness for users using optimistic concurrency control. Also, the mechanism maximize the responsiveness by refining the locking granularity and applying different concurrency control mechanisms to each.
With the digital technical development, the German public broadcasting system has enlarged their online services with the rapid growth of internet population and digital channels. In the debate on online services of public broadcasting systems the major issue is that broadcasting fees finance their broadcast, though they are intended to support mass communication only. Therefore the German private broadcasting claimed to the European Union, that broadcasting fee of the German public had to be regarded as state aid concerning fair competition. Due to the autonomy of the German public broadcasting systems, guaranteed by the German Constitutional Law, a public value test was proposed to the EU and was accepted domestically. The cut in rise of broadcasting fees was stated unconstitutional by the German Constitional Court in 2007, when online services were consolidated as the third media amongst TV and radio with regard to basic provision. This with the public value tests of the public and the accept of the EU's Audio Visual Media Services Directive was constituted in the 12th amendment of the State Contract of Broadcasting. This three-dimensional legislative process could be instructive for the korean process, because Korea too is on the verge of constituting a regulatory system of convergence media.
Archival materials in film archives is a memories and archival documents of human which is generated from cultural activities of human being, and provided long-term relevant information. However, it is different general public audio-visual records because main purpose of representing culture to create the contents of private sector rather than evidence of the factual information of public service activities. Therefore, should determine the description principle and rule in order to reflect specific physical, intellectual characteristics. So as to control the description, that is need in the textual standards to base the specific purposes and rules thus analyzed the international description standards as Dublin Core, ISAD(G), FIAF Cataloguing Rules For Film Archives. As a result, more effectively to describe archival materials in film archives required significant modifications in the organizations of the areas and the elements. This study argues that first, to divide existence the concept and the reality (work/item) of archival materials in film archives. Second, to need understanding and indicating their content, context, structure. Third, to establish of the areas and the elements including a characteristic of it. The final suggestion organizes separately to 6th and 8th areas, 22th and 25th elements in two parts. This conclusion does not prepare to refer the status and/or policy of a particular film arhicve, can be set accordingly to a specific elements or sub-elements by the film archives.
The purpose of this study is to search for the ways to diversify Outdoor/Environmental Education Program in the Nature Study Center(NSC), especially for the middle school students. For this study, various research methods such as literature review, questionnaire survey (448 students, 11 middle school teachers, 19 NSC staffs), interview and participant observation are used the process of this study consists of two steps. The first step is to define research questions through pilot survey and the second is to investigate the research questions, in the form of hypotheses through main survey. Nine hypotheses are formulated. Six are related with program elements (educational goals, student characteristics, staff resources, teaching methods, instructional resources, contents). three are related with program implementation process(preplan, implementation, post-evaluation). The hypotheses are tested and alternatives for program improvement are proposed. 1. Educational goals : Educational goals of NSC should be focused on Outdoor /Environmental Education and each NSC should specialize on its own theme. The objectives of every sub-program should be unified toward educational goals. 2. Student characteristics: The Outdoor/Environmental Education Program should reflect student characteristics: sex, urban/rural origins, normal/handicapped, number of visit and so on. 3. Staff resources : Provide qualified staff with professional knowledge and positive attitudes, reeducate staffs periodically, reduce management staff and increase teaching staffs. Provide permanent and well paid position, encourage and give opportunities and the middle school teachers to participate in program. 4. teaching method: Increase outdoor classes two way communication between teaching staffs and students adopt more open ended teaching method so that students can exercise coworks in small groups. 5. Instructional resources: Diversify NSC sites(mountains, coastal areas, urban areas and so on), teaching media (audio/visual equipments, graphic design of signs). Consider design for handicapped and integrate indoor and outdoor educational facilities. Plan nature trails with separate themes, allign nature trail so that it passes through diverse environments. 6. Content : Reflect characteristic site potential specialize on day or night program, on seasonal program, and on site specific social issues(such as interpreting of environmental damages around the NSCs). 7. Preplan: Get Information and know about visiting students in advance. Discuss with middle school teachers and adjust program weeks before visits if many or all of the students had already visited a NSC. arrange a visit to other NSC. Provide an introductory class for the teachers and students before they visit a NSC. 8. Implementation: During NSC visit and classes apply various and appropriate techniques to collect in formation for later evaluation. Improve NSC provided evaluation sheet so as to reflect student characteristic. Compare with formal education and investigate on effects of NSC program. 9. Post-evaluation: Formalize a post-evaluation process and organization. During the winter vacation, develop new programs based on the post-evaluationacation, for the next year. Also, have comparative evaluation meetings of staff from various NSCs during the winter vacation while there is no visitors and classes.

Recently, according to the number of internet in widely use and the development of the related application program, the distribution and use of multimedia content(text, images, video, audio etc.) is very easy. Digital signal may be easily duplicated and the duplicated data can have same quality of original data so that it is difficult to warrant original owner. For the solution of this problem, the protection method of copyright which is encipher and watermarking. Digital watermarking is used to protect IP(Intellectual Property) and authenticate the owner of multimedia content. In this paper, the proposed watermarking algerian embeds watermark into multiple lower bitplanes of digital image. In the proposed algorithm, original and watermark images are decomposed to bitplanes each other and the watermarking operation is executed in the corresponded bitplane. The position of watermark image embedded in each bitplane is used to the watermarking key and executed in multiple lower bitplane which has no an influence on human visual recognition. Thus this algorithm can present watermark image to the multiple inherent patterns and needs small watermarking quantity. In the experiment, the author confirmed that it has high robustness against attacks of JPEG, MEDIAN and PSNR but it is weakness against attacks of NOISE, RNDDIST, ROT, SCALE, SS on spatial domain when a criterion PSNR of watermarked image is 40dB.
