Audio Source Separation Based on Residual Reprojection

  • This paper describes an audio source separation that is based on nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) and expectation maximization (EM). For stable and highperformance separation, an effective auxiliary source separation that extracts source residuals and reprojects them onto proper sources is proposed by taking into account an ambiguous region among sources and a source's refinement. Specifically, an additional NMF (model) is designed for the ambiguous region - whose elements are not easily represented by any existing or predefined NMFs of the sources. The residual signal can be extracted by inserting the aforementioned model into the NMF-EM-based audio separation. Then, it is refined by the weighted parameters of the separation and reprojected onto the separated sources. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme (outlined above) is more stable and outperforms existing algorithms by, on average, 4.4 dB in terms of the source distortion ratio.

Audio Watermarking Using Independent Component Analysis

  • This paper presents a blind watermark detection scheme for an additive watermark embedding model. The proposed estimation-correlation-based watermark detector first estimates the embedded watermark by exploiting non-Gaussian of the real-world audio signal and the mutual independence between the host-signal and the embedded watermark and then a correlation-based detector is used to determine the presence or the absence of the watermark. For watermark estimation, blind source separation (BSS) based on independent component analysis (ICA) is used. Low watermark-to-signal ratio (WSR) is one of the limitations of blind detection with the additive embedding model. The proposed detector uses two-stage processing to improve the WSR at the blind detector; the first stage removes the audio spectrum from the watermarked audio signal using linear predictive (LP) filtering and the second stage uses the resulting residue from the LP filtering stage to estimate the embedded watermark using BSS based on ICA. Simulation results show that the proposed detector performs significantly better than existing estimation-correlationbased detection schemes.

Audio signal clustering and separation using a stacked autoencoder (복층 자기부호화기를 이용한 음향 신호 군집화 및 분리)

  • This paper proposes a novel approach to the problem of audio signal clustering using a stacked autoencoder. The proposed stacked autoencoder learns an efficient representation for the input signal, enables clustering constituent signals with similar characteristics, and therefore the original sources can be separated based on the clustering results. STFT (Short-Time Fourier Transform) is performed to extract time-frequency spectrum, and rectangular windows at all the possible locations are used as input values to the autoencoder. The outputs at the middle, encoding layer, are used to cluster the rectangular windows and the original sources are separated by the Wiener filters derived from the clustering results. Source separation experiments were carried out in comparison to the conventional NMF (Non-negative Matrix Factorization), and the estimated sources by the proposed method well represent the characteristics of the orignal sources as shown in the time-frequency representation.

  • In this paper, we develop a multichannel blind source separation algorithm based on a beamspace transform and the multichannel non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) method. The NMF algorithm is a famous algorithm which is used to solve the source separation problems. In this paper, we consider a beamspace-time-frequency domain data model for multichannel NMF method, and enhance the conventional method using a beamspace transform. Our decomposition algorithm is applied to audio source separation, using a dataset from the international Signal Separation Evaluation Campaign 2010 (SiSEC 2010) for evaluation.

  • This paper deals with the interfering audio noise caused by LTE(Long Term Evolution) UE(User Equipment) which is 4th generation mobile communications on audio devices. At first, we realized that the interfering signal of the LTE UE is determined by the transmit power of the LTE UE through analysis and measurement. Then, we performed to measure audio noise level according to the variation of transmitting power level and separation distance between the LTE UE and an audio device. As a result, it is required that minimum separation distance should be 25 cm and above in order to protect audio device from the interference noise of the LTE UE with the maximum transmit power level of 22 dBm.

  • In this paper, we investigate source separation algorithms for stereo audio mixed using amplitude panning method. This source separation algorithms can be used in various applications such as up-mixing, speech enhancement, and high quality sound source separation. The methods in this paper estimate the panning angles of individual signals using the principal component analysis being applied in time-frequency tiles of the input signal and independently extract each signal through directional filtering. Performances of the methods were evaluated through computer simulations.

Harmonic and Percussive Separation Based on NMF and Tonality Mask

  • In this letter, we present a new algorithm for the harmonic and percussive separation of jazz music. Using a short-time Fourier transform and nonnegative matrix factorization, the signal is decomposed into rank components. Each component is then split into harmonic and percussive parts using masks calculated based on their tonalities. Finally, the harmonic and percussive parts are separated after applying the masks and a summation. We evaluate the algorithm based on real audio examples using both objective and subjective assessments. The proposed algorithm performs well for the separation of harmonic and percussive parts of jazz excerpts.

  • 다수의 음원이 특정한 공간에 산재하고 있을 때, 그 중 특정 음원에 주목하면 다른 음원과 분리되어 특정 음원만 들리는 현상을 칵테일파티 현상이라고 한다. 심리적인 이 현상에 영감을 받아 음원을 분리하는 알고리즘이 만들어졌다. 이런 음원 분리방법을 Blind Source Separation(BSS) 이라고 하는데, 여러 신호가 섞이는 과정을 모르는 상태에서 음원을 분리한다는 뜻에서 Blind Source Separation 이라고 한다. BSS에 사용되는 알고리즘으로 주로 PCA, ICA이 있다. PCA는 2차원의 경우를, ICA는 그 이상의 고차원의 통계적 특성을 이용한다. 이에 본 논문은 PCA를 이용하여 두 음원을 분리하는 알고리즘을 구현하는데 역점을 두었다. PCA는 주로 음원보다는 이미지 신호 처리에 초점이 맞추어져 있지만, 음원 분리에 있어서도 충분한 성능을 보여주므로, ICA를 이용한 음원 분리 알고리즘과의 비교를 통하여 장, 단점을 알아보고 추후 PCA의 응용 가능성을 알아보았다.

Development of a Listener Position Adaptive Real-Time Sound Reproduction System (청취자 위치 적응 실시간 사운드 재생 시스템의 개발)

  • In this paper, a new audio reproduction system was developed in which the cross-talk signals would be reasonably cancelled at an arbitrary listener position. To adaptively remove the cross-talk signals according to the listener's position, a method of tracking the listener position was employed. This was achieved using the two microphones, where the listener direction was estimated using the time-delay between the two signals from the two microphones, respectively. Moreover, room reverberation effects were taken into consideration where linear prediction analysis was involved. To remove the cross-talk signals at the left-and right-ears, the paths between the sources and the ears were represented using the KEMAR head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) which were measured from the artificial dummy head. To evaluate the usefulness of the proposed listener tracking system, the performance of cross-talk cancellation was evaluated at the estimated listener positions. The performance was evaluated in terms of the channel separation ration (CSR), a -10 dB of CSR was experimentally achieved although the listener positions were more or less deviated. A real-time system was implemented using a floating-point digital signal processor (DSP). It was confirmed that the average errors of the listener direction was 5 degree and the subjects indicated that 80 % of the stimuli was perceived as the correct directions.

  • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70$\pm$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32$\pm$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The CF 15-11 HFDs which failed APD test did not show changes in the UFR compared to normal dialyzers indicating that APD is a more sensitive test than UFR test to evaluate the integrity of the fibers. 30527 T00401030527 ^x For quantitative measurement of reflected light from a clinical diagnostic strip, a prototype old reflectance photometer was designed. The strip loader and cassette were made to obtain more accurate reflectance parameters. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. In this paper, a new method to detect nonlinear propagation characteristics of the internal vibration in the tissue for the low frequency mechanical vibration by using bispectral analysis is proposed. In the method, low frequency vibration of f0( = 100Hz) is applied on the surface of the object, and the waveform of the internal vibration x (t) is measured from Doppler frequency modulation of silmultaneously transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. Basic experimental system is constructed by using 3.0 MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the several experiments are carried out for some phantoms. Our department has developed an information system for routine hematology using down-sized computer system. The operating system and database management system were SCO UNIX and SCO foxbase, respectively. For program development, we used Xbase language provided by SCO foxbase. The C language was used for interface purpose. To make the system use friendly, pull-down menu was used. The system connected to our hospital information system via application program interface (API), so the information related to patient and request details is automatically transmitted to our computer. Our system interfaced with fwd complete blood count analyzers(Sysmex NE-8000 and Coulter STKS) for unidirectional data tansmission from analyzer to computer. Because the point of maximun temperature of laser-irradiated gelatin exists below the surface due to surface cooling, evaporation at the boiling temperature is made explosively from below the surface. The important parameters of this process are the conduction loss to laser power absorption (defined as the conduction-to-laser power parameter, Nk), the convection heat transfer at the surface to conduction loss (defined as Bi), dimensionless extinction coefficient (defined as Br.), and dimensionless irradiation time (defined as Fo). Dependence of Fo on Nk and Bi has been observed by experiment, and the results have been compared with the numerical results obtained by solving a 2-dimensional conduction equation. Fo and explosion depth (from the surface to the point of maximun temperature) are increased when Nk and Bi are increased.To find out the minimum laser power for explosive evaporative removal process, steady state analysis has been also made. We obtained a two-dimensional current density distribution within a phantom by processing the real and imaginary MR images from a 4.77 NMR machine. Optimal stimulus parameters, which can minimize muscle fatigue and can achieve effective muscle contraction were determined in slow and fast muscles in Sprague-Dawley rats. Muscle types of the lower extremity were classified according to their mechanical property of contraction, which are slow muscle (msoleus m.) and fast muscle (medial gastrocneminus m., rectus femoris m., vastus lateralis m.). Optimal parameters of electrical stimulation for slow muscles were 20 Hz, 0.2 ms square pulse. For fast muscle, 40 Hz, 0.3 ms square pulse was optimal to produce repeated contraction. Higher stimulus intensity was required when synergistic muscles were stimulated simultaneously than when they were stimulated individually. Electrical stimulation for each muscle was designed to generate bipedal locomotion, so that individual muscles alternate contraction and relaxation to simulate stance and swing phases.
