  • The pumpkin fruit fly [Bactrocera (paradacus) depressa Shiraki] was first trapped on June 1st with ground and Mcphail traps in Jinan and Iksan drea, Chonbuk Province and was found to have single generation during the grow-ing season in 2002. Not much difference existed in the number of B. (paradacus) depressa flies attracted to various colors but Bactrocera (zugodacus) scurellatus Hendal came to yellow and green more than to blue color. In a study of the effect of diets on the degree of attraction by the flies, it turned out that B. (paradacus) depressa came more to yeast hydrolysate (YH) and in June i.e, the early period of adult emergence of the year. However, more individuals of B. (zugodacus) scutellatus are attracted to the extract of young pumpkin fruits. More B. (paradacus) depressa was caught with McPhail traps while more B. (zugodacus) scurellatus was caught with sticky traps and accordingly, species specific traps are recommended when yearly population trends of fruit flies are studied.

  • The ability of sunflower, bean, green perilla, and sesame to attract Metcalfa pruinosa was tested in both laboratory and field conditions. In the laboratory experiment, sunflowers showed the highest attractiveness to M. pruinosa nymphs and adults. These results were the same as those in the field experiment. Sunflowers showed the highest attractiveness among the four candidates as a trap plant for M. pruinosa, with comparable average attractiveness values for nymphs and adults to those in the laboratory. Young beans also showed high attractiveness to M. pruinosa, albeit lower than those of sunflowers. However, the attractiveness of mature beans was low. Sunflowers consistently (P < 0.05) showed significantly higher attractiveness than that of the other three plants, regardless of plant age. Thus, sunflowers would serve as a good trap plant for both the nymphs and adults of M. pruinosa.

  • After Nakanishi and Cooper(1982) suggested a way of transforming the complicated nonlinear MCI model into a simple linear form, the application of MCI model has been increased. However, the use of MCI model in Korea is quite limited. The goal of this paper is to demonstrate the practical application of MCI(Multiplicative Competitive Interaction) model to a consumer goods industry. MCI model is a form of the attraction model explaining the relation between marketing mix variables and market share. In this study, multiple sources of empirical data are incorporated in the model formulation stage. In the estimation process, the equity estimation is applied to solve the possible multi-collinearity problem among marketing mix variables. Results from the fitted model suggest meaningful managerial implications for the management of brand equity and the allocation of resources among marketing mix variables.

  • Purpose: In the period of international integration, how is the implementation of intellectual property regulation in developing countries? Do intellectual property rights help attract more Foreign direct investment (FDI)? This study aims to show the effect of intellectual property rights, reflect in the number of patent registered (Patent distribution into two components: Patent_residents and Patent_non-residents) on FDI attraction in Vietnam. Research design, data and methodology: Using Autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model for the data collected from 1990 to 2018 with EViews version 9 software. Conclusions: The results indicate that the number of patent protection has a positive effect on FDI in both short term and long term. In particular, only patent registration of foreign individuals and organizations has a significant positive effect on attracting FDI, while that of Vietnamese patents is not statistically significant. From the results of this study, we provide some recommendations to help attract FDI based on raising awareness of intellectual property rights: Increase international cooperation for innovation to learn and encourage patent; Improve the capac ity of inventing as well as the ability to register patents of Vietnamese people; Government agencies are tasked to support a nd review registration procedures; Encouraging patent registration based on the patent.

  • Particle deposition on a semiconductor wafer larger than 100 mm was studied experimentally and numerically. Particularly the electrostatic effect on particle deposition velocity was investigated. The experimental apparatus consisted of a particle generation system, a particle deposition chamber and a wafer surface scanner. Experimental data of particle deposition velocity were obtained for a semiconductor wafer of 200 mm diameter with the applied voltage of 5,000 V and PSL particles of the sizes between 83 and 495 nm. The experimental data of particle deposition velocity were compared with the present numerical results and the existing experimental data for a 100 mm wafer by Ye et al. (1991) and Opiolka et al. (1994). The present numerical method took into consideration the particle transport mechanisms of convection, Brownian diffusion, gravitational settling and electrostatic attraction in an Eulerian frame of reference. Based on the comparison of the present experimental and numerical results with the existing experimental results the present experimental method for a 200 mm semiconductor wafer was found to be able to present reasonable data.

  • The visual sensibility and preferences are closely related with color combinations, stripe intervals, and stripe complexity. We studied the effect of stripes characteristics on visual sensibility and preferences for men's shirts fabrics. As a result of a factor analysis, the adjectives were classified by viewers into 5 factors as attraction, maturity, dignity, practicality, and simplicity. We found that stripe intervals had a significant visual effect on maturity, dignity, and practicality. The uneven stripes had higher scores for dignity and practical while lower for mature. The stripes with consecutive order of two different thickness were felt more strongly in attractive, practical, and preferred. The results also showed that stripes with compound and contrast colors were attractive and preferred.

  • Molecular dynamic simulations have been carried out to study the effect of the nano-structure substrate and its temperature on cluster laminating. The interaction between substrate molecules and liquid molecules was modeled in the molecular scale and simulated by the molecular dynamics method in order to understand behaviors of the liquid cluster on nano-structure substrate. In the present model, the Lennard-Jones potential is applied to mono-atomic molecules of argon as liquid and platinum as nano-structure substrate to perform simulations of molecular dynamics. The effect of wettability on a substrate was investigated for the various beta of Lennard-Jones potential. The behavior of the liquid cluster and nano-structure substrate depends on interface wettability and function of molecules force, such as attraction and repulsion, in the collision progress. Furthermore, nano-structure substrate temperature and beta of Lennard-Jones potential have effect on the accumulation ratio. These results of simulation will be the foundation of coating application technology for micro fabrication manufacturing.

  • This article deals with the changes in flow air properties across an oblique shock wave for a real gas. The flow through is investigated to find a general form for oblique shock waves. The main objective of this work will result in the development of a new numerical algorithm to determine the effect of the stagnation pressure on supersonic flow for thermally and calorically imperfect gases with a molecular dissociation threshold, thus giving a better affinity to the physical behavior of the waves. So, the effects of molecular size and intermolecular attraction forces are used to correct a state equation, emphasizing the determination of the impact of upstream stagnation parameters on oblique shock waves. As results, the specific heat pressure does not remain constant and varies with the temperature and density. At Mach numbers greater than 2.0, the temperature rise considerably, and the density rise is well above, that predicted assuming ideal gas behavior. It is shown that caloric imperfections in air have an appreciable effect on the parameters developed in the processes is considered. Computation of errors between the present model based on real gas theory and a perfect gas model shows that the influence of the thermal and caloric imperfections associated with a real gas is important and can rise up to 16%.

  • It has been suggested that few studies were completed on psychological aspect of coffee drinking behavior though coffee researches have been mainly focused on marketing or business purposes. In this study, fifteen university students were participated to a group interview for concept mapping analysis asking about their meaning and purpose of coffee drinking behavior. Sixty nine statements were extracted from the interview, and categorized into seven clusters using multi dimensional scaling analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis. Seven clusters were Personal method of getting the desired physical effect, As a method of social activities, Method to get psychological consolation, Drink for spending time and using space, Habitual drink and use of caffeine's effect, Enjoying coffee's various characteristic and attraction, and Enjoying coffee's various characteristic and attraction. Two factors were identified based on these clusters such as internal-external motivation to drink coffee and emotional-physical effect of coffee. Participants ranked their priority of those clusters; the cluster of "Drink for spending time and using space" was first ranked. Limitations and suggestions for future research were also discussed.
