Purpose: The purpose of study was to provide basic data for developing interventions that could help middle-aged adults prepare for dignified death in the future by examining their attitudes toward death and advance directives (AD), and knowledge of AD. Methods: Data were collected through a survey of 211 middle-aged adults from January 28 to February 28, 2019, in a city located in Gangwon Province. To analyze the data, descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise linear regression were utilized using SPSS/WINdows 21.0. Results: The average score of the participants' attitudes toward death and AD, and knowledge of AD was 91.82±10.89, 15.53±4.27, 46.00±9.45, respectively. There were positive correlations between attitudes toward dignified death and attitudes toward AD, and knowledge of AD. Factors that influence attitudes toward AD were shown in the order of attitudes toward dignified death, knowledge of AD, and intentions to write AD (Adjusted R2=.24). Conclusion: For the dignified death in the future, it is necessary to provide middle-aged adults with an opportunity to think about the need of AD. In addition, extensive education and promotion of AD are required to correct the misunderstanding of AD.
This study aimed to investigate primary students' science-related attitudes through the literature review. Ninety-four papers published in domestic science education journals, since 1990, were collected and were followed by content analysis. In this study, science-related attitude was conceptualized as attitude toward science, scientist, science-related occupations, and school science, which is composed of cognitive, affective and behavioral domains. Based on the conceptualization, the instruments used for measuring students' attitudes were analyzed. The analysis of definition of science-related attitude in the articles showed different foci on cognitive, affective and behavioral domains. To suggest the effective instruction for enhancing students' science-related attitudes, this study identified students' attitude with gender, grade, residence and achievement level. The result showed that male, urban, higher-grade and better performed students had more positive attitude than female, rural, lower-grade and less performed students. As for the factors in science-related attitude, I categorized the factors into personal, environmental and pedagogical aspects, and found that psychological elements in all domains were most influential to students' change of science-related attitudes. It is interesting to note that students showed dichotomous views about experiment and that task-oriented instruction failed to enhance students' attitude. Based on the research findings, this study suggests effective instruction for improving students' attitudes and future research for science education.
As interest in the environment increases, consumers increasingly choose to buy products with eco-friendly production processes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of consumption values and materialism/voluntary simplicity on the attitudes and purchase intentions toward eco-friendly fashion products. A survey of university students in Seoul was conducted and 203 questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS 23.0. The consumption values consisted of six factors: subjective value, novelty value, social value, brand value, practical value, and health/safety value. Materialism/voluntary simplicity was grouped into two factors of materialism pursuit and voluntary simplicity pursuit. Brand values were found to negatively affect attitudes toward eco-friendly fashion products. The more one pursued brand names, the more negative was one's attitude toward eco-friendly fashion products. Health/safety values had a positive effect on purchase intentions for eco-friendly fashion products and voluntary simplicity pursuit had a positive effect on both attitudes and purchase intentions. The materialist group had high subjective value, novelty value, social value, and brand value among the consumption values, and the voluntary simplicity-seeking group tended to pursue the value of health and safety. This study was meaningful in that it identified the characteristics of consumers showing favorable attitudes toward eco-friendly fashion products.
The purpose of this study was to review university students' attitudes towards value-based consumption and their influences on it to the types of LOHAS lifestyle. The statistical analysis was based on a questionnaire survey by 275 subjects. Several attitude variables included in the study such as 'attitudes toward LOHAS lifestyle', 'environment', 'charity', 'need of business ethics', 'investment into socially responsible business', and 'good consumption'. By the results of the study, first, students' attitudes and concerns about the environment were positive, however, not expanded to the absolutely positive attitudes for their future society. Second, there is no clear relationship between their participation in the community and their attitudes to the LOHAS lifestyle. Third, university students' consumption was not based on the values of LOHAS, but on the attitudes to their own well-being. Fourth, groups with lower income and with no religious tendency revealed more positive attitudes toward LOHAS lifestyle than other groups. Fifth, there are some relations between LOHAS lifestyle and the individual's economic role performances such as the attitudes to 'environment', 'charity', 'need of business ethics,' 'investment into socially responsible business', and 'good consumption'.
The main purpose of this study was to investigate attitudes toward mental illness and the mentally ill of psychiatric nurses in Korea and to identify the relationships between the nurses' attitudes and demographic variables. Subjects in this study were 122 psychiatricnurses and 111non-psychiatric nurses in active service at 12 hospitals in Seoul. The insrtument used for measuring attitudes was a questionaire developed by Cohen and Struening (1962) referred to as the“Opinions about Mental illness(OMI) Scale”made up to 51 Likert-type items. The findings of this study indicated hatnurses showed negative attitudetoward mental illness and the mentally ill: Very high on social restrictiveness (factor D), low on Mental Health Ideology (factor C), and Interpersonal Etiology (factor E). Since the high score on Factor A, B and the low score on Factor B, C, E reflect a negative altitudes toward mental illness, this study population related extremely negative attitudes compared to any other surveys. And of the demographic variables that related to their attitudes the education degree and the kind of the hospital in active service showed very significant differences. On the basis of the investigation the findings indicated the followings; 1) Althohg attitudes toward mental illness and the mentally ill of psychiatric nurses were not significant differences from non-psychatric nurses, there was a trend that attitudes of psychaitric nurses did show more negative responses rather than those of non-psychiatric nurses. 2) Demographic variables that relate to their attitudes on the OMI scale were the education degree of the respondent and the kind of their hospital in active service. 3) About attitudes toward mental illness and the mentally ill baccalaureate nursesshowed more positive attitudes in Factor A (Authoritarianism), Factor C (Mental Health Ideology) and Factor D (Social Restrictiveness) than diploma program murses. 4) Nurses in active Service in the private hospital revealed more positive attitudes(A,B,C,D) except Factor (E) than those in the national or public hospital. 5) The ages, duration of work, wanted or unwantedG roup of psychiatric ward and satisfactory level of psychiatric nursing service were non-significant.
In this study, science teachers' perception and attitude toward nanotechnology are examined through questionnaires gathered from 134 secondary science teachers. As a result, the study shows that science teachers have high perceptiveness. However, they do not understand specific information on nanotechnology correctly. Science teachers have positive attitudes toward nanotechnology and they have perceived risks of nanotechnology as well as benefits of nanotechnology. Science teachers show positive attitudes toward the application of nanotechnology, whereas they show negative attitudes toward personal information chip and nano-taste enhancer. Science teachers are exposed to nanotechnology via various sources such as TV and internet, whereas teachers rarely get information on nanotechnology-related concepts in textbooks and teaching resources. Science teachers have perceived many textbooks do not introduce enough nanotechnology-related concepts. Many teachers try to explain the nanotechnology when textbooks include nanotechnology-related concepts, whereas quite a few of teachers do not introduce the nanotechnology-related concepts in class.
This study investigated pre-service elementary teachers' understanding of the basic concepts of and their attitudes toward astronomy in Korea and Japan. The survey instrument called the Astronomy Diagnostic lest (ADT) that was developed by the Collaboration for Astronomy Education Research (CAER) in 1998 was used and modified to tailor to the two countries' contexts, including 12 items written in the two languages, Korean and Japanese. The attitudes toward astronomy were examined by the Survey of Attitudes toward Astronomy (SATA), which was developed by Zeilik et al. in 1999. Cronbach's alpha of this sample of the study was 0.69, while the reliability of SATA was 0.87. All the pre-service elementary teachers in both Korea and Japan showed a low-level understanding of the basic concepts of astronomy. 38% of Korean pre-service elementary teachers had correct answers to the questions regarding the basic conceptions of astronomy, while 37% of Japanese participants had correct answers to them. Although there was no statistically significant difference between Korean and Japanese pre-service elementary teachers, Korean teachers scored higher than Japanese participants in SATA. A significant difference, however, was revealed in the categories of cognitive competence and value of the attitudes toward astronomy (p <.05). In addition, it was found that both Korean and Japanese pre-service elementary teachers scored less than 40% about the basic concepts of astronomy and that they obtained lower scores than the US college students with regard to the attitudes toward astronomy.

The conflict management of forest recreation, especially conflict management between hikers and MTB users, has drawn much attention as one of major issues in forest policy making. The main purpose of this study was to investigate hikers' conflict perception against MTB users and their attitudes toward the necessity of conflict management actions, and to identify factors influencing those attitudes. The research data were collected through online surveys of 644 men and women hikers who are aged 20 or older and not participating in MTB riding. The major findings of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the levels of goal interference and social value conflicts against MTB users were not so high, but rather, the awareness level of compatibility was much higher than that of conflict, and hikers' awareness level of safety risks posed by MTB users was also considerably high. Second, hikers' attitudes toward the necessity of conflict management actions were generally shown to be considerably positive, but those attitudes toward indirect management actions such as information, education, and compliance with norms of conduct, were significantly positive than those attitudes toward direct management measures such as zoning, enforcement, and regulations. Finally, the results of the multiple regression analysis showed that four factors that most significantly affect hikers' attitudes toward direct or indirect conflict management actions are behavioral norms conflict, safety risk, compatibility and age. Safety risks had most important influence on hikers' attitudes toward the direct management actions, but behavioral norms conflicts had most important influence on indirect management actions.
With the advent of an intelligent information society, research toward artificial intelligence education was conducted. In previous studies, the subject of research is biased, and studies that analyze attitudes toward artificial intelligence are insufficient. So, in this study developed a test tool to measure the artificial intelligence of high school students and analyze their attitudes toward artificial intelligence. To develop the test tool, 229 high school students completed a preliminary test, of which the results were analyzed via exploratory factor analysis. To analyze the students' attitudes toward artificial intelligence, the resulting test tool was applied to 481 high school students, and their test results were analyzed according to factors. From the study's results, there was no difference according to gender in the students' attitudes toward artificial intelligence, but there was a significant difference per grade. In addition, there was a significant difference in attitudes according to artificial intelligence-related experiences: the high school students who had direct and indirect experience with artificial intelligence, programming, and more frequently used it had more positive attitudes toward artificial intelligence than students without this experience. However, artificial intelligence education experience negatively influenced the students' attitudes toward artificial intelligence. Overall, the higher their interest in artificial intelligence, the more positive the high school students' attitudes toward artificial intelligence.
The purpose of this study were to examine the perception and behavior for preparing their old age according to the attitudes of middle aged people toward the elderly. In order to achieve this purpose, the survey was conducted with 441 middle aged people from Daegu and Kyungpook. Major findings of this study are as follows; First, there were statistically significantly different attitudes toward the elderly according to the personal variables such as gender, age, education, occupation and income. Second, the group, who had experience in the living together and contacting with the elderly, had a positive attitude toward the elderly. Third, the more positive attitudes toward the elderly, the better perception for preparing their old age. Finally, the more positive attitudes toward the elderly, the better behavior for preparing their old age.
