Combat Effectiveness Based Analysis Methodology for Optimal Requirement of Attack Helicopter Using Simulation (시뮬레이션을 이용한 전투효과기반 공격헬기 소요 분석방안)

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a methodology that can estimate optimal requirement of attack helicopter Korea army will be operating in future. For estimating optimal requirement, attack helicopter's operation concept, performance, battlefield environment and enemy threat are considered. We use a wargame model, AAsim(Army Aviation simulation), as a analytic simulation model which is used to analyze DOTMLPF and operation in army aviation field. In this paper, we conduct battle experiment for anti armored corps operation which reflects attack helicopter's combat effectiveness very well. As a result of simulation, the destructive rate for enemy armored corps per each attack helicopter can be calculated. In this paper, we propose optimal requirement of attack helicopter using that destructive rate for enemy armored corps.

  • In this paper, we consider a tow-person zero-sum game in which an attack helicopter with a missile wishes to destroy a tank. The tank has much small-caliber ammunition for protection itself from the attack helicopter. And the attack helicopter possesses a missile for attacking the tank. We develop models for the behavior of the attack helicopter, in terms of missile launch time, and of the tank, in terms of ammunition firing rate, in several situations. In particular, we examine the Weiss-Gillman model.

Derivation of Critical Functions of the Future Attack Helicopter Using QFD (QFD를 이용한 미래 공격헬기의 핵심기능 도출)

  • This work describes an approach that contributes to derive from mission to critical functions of the attack helicopter under future battle space environment. An existing mission of the attack helicopter is limited to the only shooter oriented functions. In the future environment, mission and its functions of the helicopter might be much expanded. The functions should be derived by the top down approach based on systems engineering approach. In this point of view, this work describes network based future battle environment. From this environment, the missions of the attack helicopter are identified and optimized functions are derived through sequential procedures like from missions to tasks, tasks to activities, and activities to functions. The selected activities are obtained from the tasks using QFD. The weighting scores of the QFD are calculated by the AHP computational procedure. Finally the critical functions are presented through the similar procedure.

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a methodology that can measure the combat effectiveness of attack helicopter which Korea army will be operating in the near future. To measure the combat effectiveness, firstly, we use a wargame model, AAsim (Army Aviation simulation), as a analytic simulation model which is used to analyze DOTMLPF and operation in army aviation field, secondly we use an Analytic Hierarchy Process by opinion of experts. For simulation and AHP, we consider anti armored corps operation reflecting attack helicopter's combat effectiveness. As a result of this study, the combat effectiveness per each attack helicopter can be measured and this combat effectiveness is useful for reasonable decision making such as selection helicopter type, quantity when acquiring new weapon system.

  • Self-noise from the rotor blade of the UH-1H Helicopter is obtained numerically by using the Brooks' empirical noise model. All of the five noise sources are compared with each other in frequency domain. From the calculated results the bluntness noise reveals dominant noise sources at small angel of attack, whereas the separation noise shows main noise term with gradually increasing angel of attack. From the results of two different tip Mach numbers with the change of angel of attack, the OASPLs at M = 0.8 show about 15dB larger than those at M = 0.4.

  • Virtual Fire Control System(VFCS) in attack helicopter is developed. VFCS is comprised of multifunction display, store management computer, mission computer, target acquisition and designation system, mission planning system, weapon simulator and flight simulator. Weapon engagement process under the operational environment of helicopter was considered by using the VFCS. We considered hellfire missile, tow missile, unguided rocket and turret gun. The results of this study will be utilized efficiently on integrated fire control system SIL(System Integration Lab.) in attack helicopter.

Performance Comparison of Two Airfoil Rotor Designs for an Agricultural Unmanned Helicopter

  • Purpose: The most important element of an agricultural helicopter is the rotor blade realizing lift force. In order to improve the performance of the rotor blades, two types (KA152313 and KB203611) of airfoils were designed and compared. Methods: The nose shape of the KB203611 airfoil was 'drooped' and 'sharp' compared to the leading edge of the KA152313 airfoil. The performance of the experimental airfoils was simulated using CFD-ACE program, and lifts were measured in situ using the 'AgroHeli-4G', a prototype helicopter. Results: Simulated lifts of the blade with the KA152313 airfoil showed proper values for a wide range of angles of attack between $14^{\circ}{\sim}18^{\circ}$, while the simulated lift of the KB203611 blade exhibited maximum values near $13^{\circ}{\sim}14^{\circ}$. In the lift measurements, the range of operable angles of attack was a collective pitch angle at the grip (GP) of $12^{\circ}{\sim}18^{\circ}$ for the KA152313 blade. On the other hand, the range of angles of attack for the KB203611 blade was a GP of $12^{\circ}{\sim}14^{\circ}$. Conclusions: The blade of KA152313 performed well over a wide range of AoAs and the blade of KB203611 performed better at low AoAs. In this study, a variative airfoil blade, gradually emerging from grip to tip using the two different airfoils, was suggested.

  • Forest fires were easy to be larger in Korea. So the utilization of aircrafts, especially helicopters, for forest fire attack would be increased gradually. In the forest fire attack process, the improvement of the helicopter aerial fire attack technique and safety were the chief element for efficient forest fire attack. In this study, we surveyed the recognition of pilots who worked in Forest Aviation Office which was responsible for aerial forest fire attack in Korea. Using these survey results, we suggested more efficient and safer method for aerial fire fighting based on actual experience of air attack at the scene of forest fire burning.

  • Among the method of aerial fire firefighting, the indirect attack is efficiency way to protect main facilities and it is the aerial fire line construction. According to this study is suggested the fire line construction strategy of indirect attack by helicopter suitable Korea forest fire on theory consideration of indirect attack and experience in practical scene. This study defined that main key points of the fire line construction are accuracy, large quantity, and quickness. Main protection facilities are devided as caution area, warning area, danger area and concern area. Also, it suggested stage-by-stsge from 1 step to 3 step for the aerial fire firefighting correspondence strategy and the fire line construction model. I regard that this study's indirect attack method of the aerial fire firefighting of the fire line construction may be understand about indirect attack tactics and application of indirect attack which is assistance to raise of capability of the aerial fire firefighting with effectiveness and efficiency.

Study on Efficient Operation on Aerial Fire Fighting Helicopter in Forest Fire (산불진화 헬기의 효율적인 운영방안 연구)

  • This research analyzed synthetically the characteristic of forest helicopter, fire helicopter, civil helicopter and deployment assets are in operated in forest fire places of our country. Looking at arrangement of helicopter, Chung-buk, Jeonnam has a number of outbreak a forest fire rather than others but it is weak of initial fire attack by a gap of helicopter arrangement. Geong-gi has many helicopter while it is a relatively few outbreak of a helicopter. According to this, We read to consider that Gang-won need to rent more a helicopters and civil helicopter in each weak areas by government expense. In addition Dae-jeon, Chung-buk and Jeon-nam need arrangement of helicopter after secure rental budget. Especially, Dae-jeon need to consider opening base of fire helicopter.
