The objective of this investigation was to obtain an excellent spray at the low injection pressure. When cavitation occurred in the nozzle hole the atomization of the liquid jet enhanced considerably. In this experiments, a acrylic nozzle which was installed the gap and installed the bypass in the nozzle hole was used to enhance the atomization of the liquid jet at the few injection pressure. The liquid flow in the nozzle hole was photographed by a transmitted light using a micro flash. The spray angle was measured by macroscope images of PMAS and the Sauter mean diameter was measured by PDA system. The pressure of the notate hole was measured by pressure transducer. It was found that enhanced atomization of the liquid jet at the low injection pressure was obtained by installing the gap and the bypass at the single hole nozzle.
This paper describes the atomization characteristics, as well as the velocity and size distribution, of DME spray based on common-rail injection system. To analyze the possibility of using DME fuel as an alternative fuel of diesel, spray atomization characteristics were investigated. For this investigation, two-dimensional phase Doppler analyzer system was used to obtain droplet size and velocity distribution simultaneously. Velocity and droplet size measurements were performed at various injection pressures. Results showed that increasing pressure from 25MPa to 50MPa leads to higher spray droplet velocities and smaller droplet diameter but injection pressure above 40MPa, no signifiant reduction was observed. With the droplet velocity and SMD comparison between diesel and DME fuel, it can be observed that DME has smaller SMD and droplet velocity due to its low surface tension.
Fuel spray in the MPI gasoline injector and its atomization characteristics are investigated with both macroscopic and microscopic visualization systems. The Bosch injector is inserted into an air-assist spray adapter which is designed to be fabricated and assembled easily. particle motion analysis system is used to measure the SMD of injector, where the assistant air pressure is varied from 0.0 to 1.5bar with fuel pressure 2.8bar. Droplet size decreased with higher air pressure and fine fuel spray with below $60{\mu}m$ of SMD is acquired at the assistant air pressure over 0.5bar.
This paper presents an atomization model for sprays under flash boiling conditions. The atomization is represented by the secondary breakup of a bubble/droplet system, and the breakup is considered as the results of two competing mechanisms, aerodynamic force and bubble growth. The model was applied to predict the atomization of a hollow-cone spray from pintle injector under flash boiling conditions. In the regimes this study considered, sprays are atomized by bubble growth, which produces smaller SMD#s than aerodynamic forces alone. With decreasing ambient pressures, the spray thickness, fuel vaporization rate and vapor radial penetration increases, and the drop size decreases. With increasing the fuel and ambient temperatures to some extent, the effect of flash boiling and air entrainment completely change the spray pattern.

This study was performed to figure out spray behavior and fuel atomization characteristics of a piezo-driven injector and a solenoid-driven injector in the common-rail injection system under the same design parameters and test conditions. The process of spray injection was visualized by using the spray visualization system composed of a Nd:YAG laser and an ICCD camera. The atomization characteristics were investigated in terms of axial mean velocity, Sauter mean diameter(SMD) and droplet distributions obtained from a phase Doppler particle analyzer system. Compared with solenoid-driven injector, the piezo-driven injector has short injection delay and reaches quickly to the maximum injection value. Spray tip penetration shows some difference, however, spray angle of piezo-driven injector is wider than that of solenoid-driven injector. Sauter mean diameter of piezo-driven type injector is smaller than that of solenoid-driven type.
This experiment was undertaken to investigate spray characteristics of the conventional inject ion system and the ultrasonic energy added inject ion system. Sauter mean diameter was mesured under the variation of inject ion pressure and the spray distance. To measure the droplet size we used the Malvern system 2600C. The spray angle and mass distribution was analyzed to the CCD camera and the patternater. After experiment, it was found that the ultrasonic energy added injection system had smaller sauter men diameter of droplet, wider mass distribution and wider spray angle than the conventional inject ion system had.

This paper describes the macroscopic behavior and atomization characteristics of the high-pressure gasoline injector in direct-injection gasoline engine. The global spray behavior of fuel injector was visualized by shadowgraph technique. The atomization characteristics of gasoline spray such as mean diameter and mean velocity of droplet were measured by the phase Doppler particle analyzer system. In order to obtain the influence of fuel injection pressure, the macroscopic visualization and experiment of particle measurement on the fuel spray were investigated at 3,5 and 7 MPa of injection pressure under different surrounding pressure in the spray chamber. The results of this work show that the fuel injection pressure of gasoline injector in GDl engine has influence upon the mean droplet diameter, mean velocity of spray droplet, the spray tip penetration, and spray width under the elevated ambient pressure.
Biodiesel fuel has different spray patterns, because viscosity and surface tension of biodiesel fuel are higher than that of diesel fuel. The diesel combustion is strongly controlled by the fuel spray behavior in combustion chamber. So, it was needed to understand the spay characteristics of non-esterification biodiesel fuel. In this study, the spray characteristics of non-esterification biodiesel fuel was investigated to confirm of an effect of WDP. The characteristics of fuel atomization was analyzed with SMD and span factor through laser diffraction particle analyzer (LDPA), and the process of spray injection was visualized through the visualization system composed of a halogen lamp and high speed camera. It was found that injection delay time and SMD of blended fuel with WDP get shoter and smaller than that of non-esterification biodiesel fuel.
In this study numerical and experimental study on the spray atomization characteristics of a GDI injector is performed. To carry out numerical analysis, four hybrid models that are composed of conical sheet disintegration model, LISA model, DDB model, and RT model are used. The experimental results to evaluate the prediction accuracy of hybrid models are obtained by using phase Doppler particle analyzer and spray visualization system. It is shown that the prediction accuracy of hybrid model concerning spray developing process and spray tip penetration is good for all hybrid models, but the hybrid breakup models show different prediction of accuracy in the case of local radial SMD distribution.

In this work, the mixture formation and atomization characteristics of biodiesel fuel were reviewed under various test conditions for the optimization of compression-ignition engine fueled with biodiesel. To achieve these, the effect of nozzle caviting flow, group-hole nozzle geometry and injection strategies on the injection rate, spray evolution and atomization characteristics of biodiesel were studied by using spray characteristics measuring system. At the same time, the fuel heating system was installed to obtain the effect of fuel temperature on the biodiesel fuel atomization. It was revealed that cavitation in the nozzle orifice promoted the atomization performance of biodiesel. The group-hole nozzle geometry and split injection strategies couldn't improve it, however, the different orifice angles which were diverged and converged angle of a group-hole nozzle enhanced the biodiesel atomization. It was also observed that the increase of fuel temperature induced the quick evaporation of biodiesel fuel droplet.
