Analysis of Acetone Absorption Spectra Using Off-axis Integrated Cavity Output Spectroscopy for a Real-time Breath Test

  • We analyzed the absorption spectra of acetone in the 3.37 ㎛ mid-infrared range using the off-axis integrated cavity output spectroscopy technique to develop a real-time, in-line breath analysis device. The linear relationship between acetone concentration and absorption increase was confirmed as 0.32%/ppm, indicating that the developed device allows for a quantitative analysis of acetone concentration in exhaled breath. To further confirm the feasibility of using our device for breath analysis, we measured the acetone concentration of human breath samples at the sub-ppm level.

  • Stainless steel 속에 들어 있는 chromium, nickel, 및 manganess를 原子吸光分光分析法(atomic absorption spectrophotomer)으로써 보다 빨리 定量할 수 있는 方法을 記述하였다. 現行되고 있는 濕式分析法과 比較한 結果 原子吸光分光分析法도 stainless steel의 分析에 믿을만한 한가지 分析法임을 알게 되었다.

  • For comparison between the compromised experimental condition and the best conditions for each element by flame atomic absorption spectrometer, the absorbances were measured with changing the burner height and HCL current. The optimum absorbance for simultaneous analysis of 6 elements was observed at 1 mA of HCL current and at 4 mm of burner height except Cr and Co. The stability of flame atomic absorption spectrometer on each element was found to be better than 5%. To investigated the accuracy of this instrument, POSCO RM-07 as a real sample was analysed at these compromised experimental conditions and found to be better than 0.04%.

  • 글로우방전장치를 기존의 원자흡수분광기의 버너 대신에 장착하였다. 정확도를 측정하기 위하여 철강표준물질을 이용하여 측정된 값과 농도를 비교하였다. 검정곡선을 작성하였으며 작성된 검정곡선으로 원자흡광감고를 측정하였다. 감도에 영향을 미치는 인자들 및 개선된 장치의 개발에 필요한 분야에 관하여 연구하였다.

  • 원자흡수분광법으로 여러 원소를 동시분석시 최적 조건을 위하여 연료의 종류, 연료의 양 및 버너 높이의 변화에 대해 10가지 원소의 흡광도를 측정하였다. Air-$C_2H_2$를 연료로 과량을 사용하고, 버너 높이가 2mm일 때 최적 흡광도를 나타내었고, 이때 10가지 원소의 상대흡광도의 평균은 73%였다.

  • A simple and rapid technique for the separation and preconcentration of lead in water and biological samples has been devised. Preconcentrationis based on the depositionof analyte onto a column packed with dithizone immobilized on sodium dodecyl sulfate coated alumina at pH $\geq$ 3. The trapped lead is eluted with 5 mL of 4 M nitric acid and determined by flame atomic absorption spectroscopy. A sample of 1 L, results in a preconcentration factor of 200 and the precision at 20${\mu}g$ $L^{-1}$ is 1.3%(n=8). The procedure is applied to tap water, well water, river water, vegetable extract and milk samples, and accuracy is assessed through recovery experiments and by independent analysis by furnace atomic absorption.

  • A method was described for the graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometric determination of trace cadmium, copper, chromium and lead in urine samples. The elements were directly determined without any other treatments. The ash temperature was intensively optimized to improve the large background by the removal of organic materials and alkali and alkali earth metals in urine samples. Two kinds of standard solutions were used to plot calibration curves. From the recovery data, it could be confirmed that the analytical results with the synthetic urine matrix similar to real urine were more accurate than with a deionized water matrix.

  • This paper describes the beneficial effect of weldment imperfection of the cask impact limiter, by applying intermittent-weld, for impact energy absorbing behavior. From the point of view of energy absorbing efficiency of an energy absorber, it is desirable to reduce the crush load resistance and increase the deformation of the energy absorber within certain limit. This paper presents the test results of intermittent-weldment and the analysis results of cask impacts and the discussions of the improvement of impact mitigating effect by the imperfect-weldment. The rupture of imperfect weldment of an impact limiter improves the energy-absorbing efficiency by reducing the crush load amplitude without loss of total energy absorption. The beneficial effect of weldment imperfection should be considered to the cask impact limiter design.

  • Mutual interferences of alkali and alkali-earth metals in atomic absorption were examined. For determination of Na or K interfering elements increase the absorbancy, and for Ca or Mg decrease. Since influences of coexisting elements become nearly constant by addition of large amount of same coexisting element, could be use mixed standard solution for alkali or alkali-earth metal determination in the presence of other alkali and alkali-earth metals. The metals can be readily incorporated into scheme of rapid silicate analysis. Precision and accuracy are good.
