  • In order to analyze the effect of meteorological elements on ozone concentration, we carried out cross-correlation of the elements with ozone concentraton, and time series analysis on them. As a result, it revealed that temperature, wind speed and humidity are not independent variables with ozone concentrations, and also, solar radiation and mixing height are the major elements that affect them. We developed models for ozone with solar radiation and mixing height as dependent variables to verify the effect of major meteorological elements. The predicted ozone concentration has strong correlation coefficients, So, We could conclude that we can predict ozone concentreation only with solar raidation and mixing height as dependents.

  • In order to calssify smog type durnig the summer season in Seoul, air Quality and meterorological data were analyzed by multivariate analysis. Among 15 variables relating to visibility, 10 variables were selected by multiple regression analysis for clustering of smog types; total suspended particle, sulfur dioxide, ozone, ntrogen dioxide, total hydrocarbon, south-north wind component, ralative humidity, precipitable water, mixing height and air temperature. Somg types were grouped into three clusters using cubic clustering criterion and the mumbers of days in each cluster were contained 74, 28 and 16 days. Each cluster was seperated clearly by sulfur dioxide, precipitable water and air teperature. The first cluster was representative of high ozone concentration and prevailing meterological conditions for ozone formation. Therefore, visibility in the first cluster was considered to be affected by photochemical smog. The third cluster showed characteristics of sulphurous smog type due to the higher concentration of primary pollutant, based on the dry condition than that in another cluster. On the other hand, the characteristic of the second cluster was not relatively clear, but considered to be in an intermediate characteristic between photochemical smog and sulphurous smog type.

  • Mild steel and zinc specimens were tested in five atmospheric testing sites of Vietnam in order to collect the corrosion databank as well as to study the corrosion mechanism in tropical conditions, in period of 1997-2000. The results obtained showed that the corrosion rate of steel is in the range of $10-50\;{\mu}m/year$ and of zinc is of $1-5\;{\mu}m/year$. They are interpretable in the comparison with the data obtained in different countries in the South East Asian as well as previous reports of Vietnamese nation project In atmospheric corrosion. The main factors affecting the corrosion in Vietnam tropical conditions are TOW (time of wetness) and salinity. The relationship between sulfur dioxide and corrosion of metals, particularly, zinc was not found clearly. An explanation was suggested about the complex effect of different pieces present in tropical atmosphere and about the alternative of the dominant factors such as humidity, salinity or temperature.

  • In order to examine the effects of micrometeorological and climatological influences on urban scale particulate air pollutants observed in Busan, power spectrum analysis was applied to the observed particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter ${\le}10{\mu}m$ ($PM_{10}$) for the period from 1991 to 2006. Power spectrum analysis has been employed to the daily mean $PM_{10}$ concentrations obtained at 13 sites to identify different scales of periodicities of $PM_{10}$ concentrations. The results show that, aside from the typical and well-known periodicities such as diurnal and annual variations caused by anthropogenic emission influences, another two significant peaks of power spectrum density were identified: 21 day and $3{\sim}4$ year of periodicities. Cospectrum analysis indicates that the intraseasonal 21 day periodicity are found to be negatively correlated with wind speed and surface pressure but shows consistently positive with relative humidity and temperature. This result implied that 21 day periodicity is presumably relevant to the secondary aerosol formation processes through the photochemical reaction that can be subsequently resulted from hygroscopic characteristics of aerosol formation. However, the interannual $3{\sim}4$ year of periodicity is found to have positive correlation with pressure, and negative with temperature and relative humidity, which is rather consistent with both characteristics of air mass during the Asian dust event and the occurrence frequency of Asian dust whose periodicities have been recorded inter-annually over the Korean peninsula.

  • It has used buoy for efficient domestic farm operations and fishermen fish. Buoy uses IoT-based communication to transmit water temperature, salinity, humidity, wind speed, etc. to fishers in real time. In this paper, we utilize LoRa, which enables communication in the marine environment, to construct a network and apply it to an actual buoy for monitoring. The implemented LoRa uses the 900MHz band to configure the network. The sensor consisted of a sensor that can monitor the atmospheric environment and a sensor that can monitor the marine environment. In addition, the information received in real time will be provided to the fishing village host. The fishermen were fully aware of this and took appropriate measures to conduct sea trials.

  • We measured black carbon concentration in rural area to understand the characteristic of atmospheric aerosol by comparing the black carbon concentration and meteorological factors such as PM10 concentration, relative humidity, temperature and wind velocity. A MAAP (Multi Angle Absorption Photometer) which is one of filter based equipments was used to measure black carbon concentration. Black carbon concentration was measured to be high from April to May and low from June to September. Black carbon concentration was proportional to PM10 concentration. Black carbon concentration was correlated to relative humidity. Black carbon concentration was inversely proportional to wind velocity and temperature. Finally, we suggest that the volume fraction of black carbon in the atmosphere can be estimated from the size, number concentration and absorption coefficient measured using the MAAP.

  • Comparing to the other air pollutants like $SO_2$, CO, the number of exceedance of the ozone national ambient air quality standard(NAAQS) and the ozone warning increased recently in Busan. The purpose of this study is to find out the preliminary symptoms for high ozone days in Busan area. In order to find out the preliminary symptoms, the hourly ozone data at air quality monitoring stations and the hourly meterological parameters at Busan regional meteorological 2007 to 2013 were used for the analysis. Averaged daily max ozone concentration was the highest(0.055 ppm) at Noksan and Youngsuri in the ozone season from 2007 to 2013. The horizontal distributions of daily max. ozone including all stations in Busan at high ozone days(the day exceeding 0.1 ppm of ozone concentration at least one station) were classified from two to five clusters by hierarchial cluster analysis. The meteorological variables showing strong correlation with daily max. ozone were the daily mean dew point temperature, averaged total insolation, the daily mean relative humidity and the daily mean cloud amount. And the most frequent levels were $19-23^{\circ}C$ in dew point temperature, $21-24 MJ/m^2$ in total insolation on the day before, $2.6-3.0 MJ/m^2$ on the very day, 67-80% in relative humidity and 0-3 in cloud amount.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the monthly and seasonal PM10 data using the Autoregressive Error (ARE) model at the southern part of the Gyeonggi-Do, Pyeongtaek monitoring site in Korea. In the ARE model, six meteorological variables and four pollution variables are used as the explanatory variables. The six meteorological variables are daily maximum temperature, wind speed, amount of cloud, relative humidity, rainfall, and global radiation. The four air pollution variables are sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$), nitrogen dioxide ($NO_2$), carbon monoxide (CO), and ozone ($O_3$). The result shows that monthly ARE models explained about 17~49% of the PM10 concentration. However, the ARE model could be improved if we add the more explanatory variables in the model.

  • VOCs (Volatile organic compounds) are known as one of the harmful chemicals, causing cancer and global warming. Therefore, the proper control, removal, and reduction of the emission of VOCs are important tasks for the environmental protection. Among the method of VOCs removal activated carbon bed is the most efficient and economical method. In this study, the adsorption performance of toluene gas was investigated using various activated carbons. To find out the adsorption efficiency, the H/D (Height/Diameter) of the activated carbon and GHSV (Gas Hourly Space Velocity) of the toluene gas were manipulated with various conditions. The effect of the temperature, humidity and toluene-MEK-IPA mixed gas on adsorption were also investigated. As a result, a high adsorption performance was found when GHSV is lower at room temperature and low humidity. It was also found that the adsorption efficiency of toluene-MEK-IPA mixed gas system was lower than that of toluene gas system.
