Data of the carbon monoxide concentration observed in Mt. Waliguan in China (WLG), Ulaan Uul in Mongolia (UUM), Tae-ahn Peninsula in Korea (TAP), and Ryori in Japan (RYO) were analyzed for a long period between 1991 and 2004. The annual average concentration of carbon monoxide was the highest at TAP $(233{\pm}41ppb)$ followed by $RYO(171{\pm}36ppb),\;UUM(155{\pm}26ppb),\;and\;WLG(135{\pm}22ppb)$. The seasonal variations being high in spring and low in summer were observed in other areas of Eastern Asia except WLG. TAP was high in carbon monoxide concentration in all seasons compared to WLG, UUM and RYO and shows wide distribution of concentration in the histogram, which is caused by the influence of large-scale air pollution due to its downwind location close to the East Asian continent, China in particular. Also, our data was compared with data measured at Mauna Loa (MLO) in Hawaii. According to the origin of the isentropic backward trajectory and its transport passage, carbon monoxide concentration observed in TAP was analyzed as follows: continental background airflows (CBG) were $216{\pm}47ppb$; regionally polluted continental airflows (RPC) were $316{\pm}56ppb$; Oceanic background airflows (OBG) were $108{\pm}41ppb$; and Partly perturbed oceanic airflows (PPO) were $161{\pm}6ppb$. The high concentration of carbon monoxide in TAP is due to the airflow from East Asian continent origin rather than that from the North Pacific origin. Especially, RPC which passes through the eastern China appeared to be the highest in concentration in spring, fall, and winter. However, OBG was affected by the North Pacific air mass with a low carbon monoxide concentration in summer. The NOAA satellite images and GEOS-CHEM model simulation confirmed a large-scale air pollution event that was in the course of expansion from southeastern China bound to the Korean Peninsula and the Korea East Sea by way of the Yellow Sea.
Nonstoichiometric solid solutions of $Y_{1-x}A_xFeO_{3-y}$ (A = Ca, Sr) systems with perovskite structure were prepared for x = 0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00 at 1200$^{\circ}C$ under atmospheric pressure, respectively. Crystallographic structures of the solid solutions of all compositions have been determined by the analysis of X-ray diffraction patterns. Reduced lattice volume of the $Y_{1-x}Ca_xFeO_{3-y}$ system was decreased with increasing x value and that of the $Y_{1-x}Sr_xFeO_{3-y}$ system was increased with increasing the x value. The mole ratios of $ Fe^{4+}$ to $ Fe^{3+}$, ${\tau}$, values in the solid solutions have been determined by Mohr salt's method of analysis and then the mixed valency was identified by Mossbauer spectroscopic analysis at 298 K. The y values were calculated from the x and ${\tau}$, and then nonstoichiometric chemical formulas were fixed. The conduction mechanism could be explained by hopping model of the conduction electrons between the mixed valence states.

Nonstoichiometric solid solutions of Sr$_{1+x}Er _{1-x} FeO _{4-y}$ system (x = 0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00) with layered $K_2NiF_4$ type structure were prepared at 1350$^{\circ}$C under atmospheric pressure. By the analysis of X-ray diffraction, the crystallographic structures of the solid solution of all compositions were found to be pseudo-tetragonal system. Nonstoichiometric chemical formulas have been determined by Mohr salt analysis. It shows that the amount of Fe$^{4+}$ increases with increasing x up to 0.50 and then decreases, and the value of oxygen nonstoichiometry increases with increasing x value. Mixed valency states of Fe$^{3+}$ and Fe$^{4+}$ in the sample were identified again by Mossbauer spectroscopic analysis at 298 K. Electrical conductivity varied within the semiconductivity range of 10-2 ∼ 10-7(${\Omega}$-1cm-1), activation energy for electrical conduction decreased with the increment of the mole ratio of Fe$^{4+}$ or ${\tau}$ value. The conduction mechanism could be explained by the hopping model of the conduction electrons between the valency states of Fe$^{3+}$ and Fe$^{4+}$.

The series of solid solutions in the $Sr_{1+x}Ho_{1-x}FeO_{4-y}$ (x = 0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75 and 1.00) systems with $K_2NiF_4$ type structure have been prepared at 1550$^{\circ}$C under an atmospheric air pressure. The X-ray powder diffraction spectra of these samples assign that the crystallographic phases are tetragonal system over the whole x range. The lattice volume was increased with increasing the substitution amount of the $Sr^{2+}$ ion. The mole ratio of the $Fe^{4+}$ ion to total iron ions or ${\tau}$ value has been determined by Mohr salt titration of the sample and then the y value was calculated from x and ${\tau}$ values. The ${\tau}$ and y values have been increased with x values. The nonstoichiometric chemical formula are formulated from the general formula of $Sr_{1+x}Ho_{1-x}Fe^3_{1-}\;^+_{\tau}Fe_{\tau}^{4+}O_{4-y}$ replaced by x,${\tau}$ and y values. Mossbauer spectra show the mixed valence state and coordination state of $Fe^{3+}\;and\;Fe^{4+}$ ions. It is found out that the magnetic property of the samples is paramagnetic at room temperature. Electrical conductivity varied within the semiconductivity range of 1.0 to 1 ${\times}\;10^{-9}{\Omega}^{-1}cm^{-1}$. Activation energy of the electrical conductivity was decreased with the $\tau$ value. The conduction mechanism should be explained by the hopping model of the conduction electrons between the valence states of $Fe^{3+}\;and\;Fe^{4+}$ ions.

The combustion reactivity of char depending on the pyrolysis pressure was investigated with Pressurized Thermogravimetric Analyser. The amounts of volatiles released at pyrolysis pressure of 1, 8 and 15 atm were, first, measured with Alaska, Adaro and Denisovsky coals. Reactivities of chars produced at var-ious pyrolysis pressure were evaluated at atmospheric pressure and 500℃, and analysed in terms of char crystal structure, surface area, pore characteristics and chemical composition of char. Finally, the combustion reactivities of three chars were examined at pressure of 1 atm, 8 atm and 15 atm. From this study, it was recognized that the amount of volatiles released decreases with increase in pyrolysis pressure, and reaction rate of char produced at higher pyrolysis pressure was lower than that at lower pyrolysis pressure. It might be resulted from the difference in char surface area and pore characteristics rather than char crystal structure and chemical characteristics. At 15 atm, kinetic parameters of Alaska char were obtained with the grain model, and these were 56.8 KJ/mole for activation energy and 222.34 (1/min) for frequency factor.
This study intends to clarify the characteristics and causes of current changes in wintertime precipitation in Korea and to predict the future directions based on surface observational $(1973/04\sim2006/07)$ and modeled (GFDL 2.1) climate data. Analyses of surface observation data demonstrate that without changes in the total amount of precipitation, snowfall in winter (November-April) has reduced by 4.3cm/decade over the $1973\sim2007$ period. Moreover, the frequency and intensity of snowfall have decreased; the duration of snow season has shortened; and the snow-to-rain day ratio (STDR) has decreased. These patterns indicate that the type of wintertime precipitation has changed from snow to rain in recent decades. The snow-to-rain change in winter is associated with the increases of air temperature (AT) over South Korea. Analyses of synoptic charts reveal that the warming pattern is associated with the formation of a positive pressure anomaly core over northeast Asia by a hemispheric positive winter Arctic Oscillation (AO) mode. Moreover, the differentiated warming of AT versus sea surface temperature (SST) under the high pressure anomaly core reduces the air-sea temperature gradient, and subsequently it increases the atmospheric stability above oceans, which is associated with less formation of snow cloud. Comparisons of modeled data between torrent $(1981\sim2000)$ and future $(2081\sim2100)$ periods suggest that the intensified warming with larger anthropogenic greenhouse gas emission in the $21^{st}$ century will amplify the magnitude of these changes. More reduction of snow impossible days as well as more abbreviation of snow seasons is predicted in the $21^{st}$ century.
Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of combinations of $NaNO_2$ and NaCl concentrations on Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) growth in emulsion-type sausage. Methods: Emulsion-type sausages formulated with different combinations of $NaNO_2$ (0 and 10 ppm) and NaCl (1.00%, 1.25%, and 1.50%) were inoculated with a five-strain L. monocytogenes mixture, and stored at $4^{\circ}C$, $10^{\circ}C$, and $15^{\circ}C$, under aerobic or vacuum conditions. L. monocytogenes cell counts were measured at appropriate intervals, and kinetic parameters such as growth rate and lag phase duration (LPD) were calculated using the modified Gompertz model. Results: Growth rates increased (0.004 to 0.079 Log colony-forming unit [CFU]/g/h) as storage temperature increased, but LPD decreased (445.11 to 8.35 h) as storage temperature and NaCl concentration increased. The effect of combinations of NaCl and low-$NaNO_2$ on L. monocytogenes growth was not observed at $4^{\circ}C$ and $10^{\circ}C$, but it was observed at $15^{\circ}C$, regardless of atmospheric conditions. Conclusion: These results indicate that low concentrations of $NaNO_2$ and NaCl in emulsion-type sausage may not be sufficient to prevent L. monocytogenes growth, regardless of whether they are vacuum-packaged and stored at low temperatures. Therefore, additional techniques are necessary for L. monocytogenes control in the product.
Recently, the demand of broadband communications such as high-speed internet, HDTV, 3D-HDTV and ATM backbone network has been increased drastically. For transmitting the broad-bandwidth data using wireless network, it is needed to use ka-band frequency. However, the use of this ka-band frequency is seriously affected to the received data performance by rain fading and atmospheric propagation loss at the Ka-band satellite communication link. So, we need adaptive MODEM to endure the degraded performance by channel environment. In this paper, we will present the structure and design of the 155Mbps adaptive Modem adaptively compensated against channel environment. In order to compensate the rain attenuation over the ka-band wireless channel link, the adaptive coding schemes with variable coding rates and the multiple modulation schemes such as trellis coded 8-PSK, QPSK, and BPSK are adopted. And the blind demodulation scheme is proposed to demodulate without Information of modulation mode at the multi-mode demodulator, and the fast phase ambiguity resolving scheme is proposed. The design and simulation results of adaptive Modem by SPW model are provided. This 155Mbps adaptive MODEM was designed and implemented by single ASIC chip with the $0.25\mu{m}$ CMOS standard cell technology and 950 thousand gates.
This study was conducted to optimize a mixing design of lightweight aerated concrete with the blast furnace slag(BFS) using Box-Behnken method, one of response surface designs. The lightweight aerated concrete with the BFS was made on the conditions of steam curing method at atmospheric pressure. The experimental factors were unit Water(W)/total powder($P_d$) ratio, BFS replacement percentage and Al powder addition based on the total powder (${P_d}^*$%). From the results of the response surface analysis, regression models for dried specific gravity and compressive strength of the lightweight aerated concrete were derived. When the target values for dried specific gravity and compressive strength of the lightweight aerated concrete were set at 0.72 and 4.42 MPa respectively, its optimized mixing conditions driven from the regression models were 0.62 of $W/P_d$ ratio, 35.5% of BFS replacement and 0.05% of Al powder addition. This experimental design model was found to be credible by measuring the dried specific gravity and compressive strength of the sample made from the above mixing conditions.

In this study, we analyzed the effect of FAN and oil cooler application on APU. MIL-STD-810 was applied to the atmospheric environment and radiation dose in order to perform thermal flow analysis. The heat flow was analyzed for the case in which the inlet / outlet fan was applied (Case 1), the case in which the inlet fan and the oil cooler were applied (Case 2), and the case in which the inlet / outlet fan and the oil cooler were applied (Case 3). As a result, it was confirmed that the cylinder head temperature of Case 3 was 21.4 times lower than that of Case 1 and 8.0 times lower than that of Case 2. Experiments were conducted under the same ambient conditions in order to examine the validity of the results. The numerical values and experimental results showed a difference of less than 7%. Through this, we were able to confirm that the APU heat flow optimization model satisfies the design conditions. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data for optimizing heat flow of APU.
