The purpose of this study is to calculate atmospheric environmental capacity for $PM_{10}$, $NO_2$ and $SO_2$ using a rollback model in Chungju. From the results of this study, the source contributions for $PM_{10}$ and $NO_2$ was the following order: line source > area source > point source. However, the source contributions for $SO_2$ was the following: point source > area source > line source. While the atmospheric environmental capacity of $NO_2$ and $SO_2$ was enough to meet the regional air quality target, $PM_{10}$ emission needs to be reduced by 5%.
This study aims to implement the modeling of selected substances for the evaluation of Atmospheric Environmental Capacity by means of the data of 2006 atmospheric pollution substance emissions. As a result, it turned out that the substance with the concentration higher than Atmospheric Environmental standard concentration was NO2, and 17.6% of the total regions researched turned out to exceed the standard concentration. In addition, set was the targeted amount to be reduced in the areas where the upper limit of emission per unit lattice was exceeded, and the model was adopted accordingly. As a result, it turned out that about 80% of the actual emission should be reduced to meet the 2006 Atmospheric Environmental standard over the Daegu. In reality, it is impossible to reduce 80% of the actual emission. Thus, the same ratio of reduction was applied in all of the Daegu regions, and the modeling was applied. The results are as follows: When 30% was reduced, the level went down to 50 ppb, which is as high as 2006 Atmospheric Environmental standard; when 50% was reduced, the level went down to 30 ppb, which is as high as 2007 Atmospheric Environmental standard.
The natural carbon cycle has been perturbed since the mid-19th century by anthropogenic CO$_2$emissions from fossil fuel combustion and deforestation due to population growth and industrialization. The current study simulated the global carbon cycle for the past 42 years using an eight-box carbon cycle model. The results showed that since the terrestrial biospheric carbon sink was roughly offset by the deforestation source, the fossil fuel emission source was partitioned between the atmospheric and oceanic sinks. However, the partitioning ratio between the atmosphere and the ocean exhibited a change, that is, the carbon accumulation rate was faster in the atmosphere than in the ocean, due to a decrease in the so-called ocean buffering capacity. It was found that the ocean buffering capacity to take up excess CO$_2$decreased by 50% in terms of the buffer factor over the past 42 years. Accordingly, these results indicate that if the current CO$_2$emission trend continues, the future rate of increase in the atmospheric CO$_2$concentration will accelerate.
In this study, the possible use of HMDA (Hexamethylenediamine) as additive to enhance reaction between $CO_{2}$ and AMP (2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol) which has higher absorption capacity than that of MEA (Monoethanolamine) was investigated. Also, the absorption capacity for $CO_{2}$ was compared with addition of HMDA, piperazine or MDEA (N-methyldiethanolamine) into $30\;wt\%$ AMP at $40^{circ}C$ and $CO_{2}$ partial pressure ranging from 0.5 to 120 kPa. Apparent rate constant ($K_{app}$) and absorption capacity with the addition of $5\∼20\;wt\%$ HMDA into AMP increased $214.2\∼276.3\%$ and $29.9\∼91.7\%$ than those of AMP alone. As a result, when $5\;wt\%$ HMDA added into AMP, the increasing rate of the absorption rate and the absorption capacity was found to be the highest. In addition, the absorption capacity increased $6.8\%,\;9.8\%,\;11.6\%$ with addition of MDEA, piperazine or HMDA respectively as compared to AMP alone at $CO_{2}$ partial pressure of 20 kPa. Consequently, HMDA as additive to improve absorption capacity of AMP was superior to other additives.
Soil organic matter (OM) is well documented for its capacity to retain persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and thus is important in dictating the environmental partitioning of POPs between media such as air, water, and soil. Black carbon (BC) is a small component of OM and exhibitt a 10$\sim$100 times greater sorption capacity of POPs than humified OM. Furthermore, due to the inherent long environmental life time of BC, a result of its resistance to physical and biological degradation, POPs can continue to accumulate in BC over a long period of time. The unique properties of BC have been of particular interest over the last 30 years and have resulted in broad research being conducted into its effects of POP cycling in atmospheric, oceanographic and soil matrices. The results of such studies have proved valuable In providing new research initiatives into the role of BC in the cycling of hydrophobic organic compounds (HOCs) as well as giving further insight into the long range atmospheric transport (LRAT) potential and subsequent risk assessment criteria for persistent organic pollutants (POPs). In this report, we introduce a novel study examining the relationships between BC and OM with respect to their POP sorption capacity and discuss the role of BC in influencing the environmental regulation of organic pollutants.
The present study has evaluated the $CO_2$ adsorption amount of activated carbon pellets (AC). Coconut shell based test AC were modified with surface impregnation of glycine, glycine metal salts and monoethanolamine for low level $CO_2$ (3000 ppm) adsorption. Physical and chemical properties of prepared adsorbents were analyzed and the adsorbed amount of $CO_2$ was investigated by using pure and 3,000 ppm $CO_2$ levels. The impregnation of nitrogen functionalities was verified by XPS analysis. The adsorption capacity for pure $CO_2$ gas was found to reach upto 3.08 mmol/g by AC-LiG (Activated carbon-Lithium glycinate), which has the largest specific surface area ($1026.9m^2/g$). As for low level $CO_2$ flow the primary amine impregnated adsorbent showed 0.26 mmol/g of adsorption amount, indicating the highest selectivity. An adsorbent with potassium-glycine salts (AC-KG, Activated carbon-Potassium glycinate) instead of amine presented with 0.12 mmol/g of adsorption capacity, which was higher than that of raw activated carbon granules (0.016 mmol/g).
Recently, the earth has shown the limit of environmental capacity. It is also experiencing an environmental crisis with rising energy prices and depletion of coal. Therefore, development of renewable energy is very important solution. However, waste fuel solid are renewable fuels, but they cause environmental problems. In this study, the emission characteristics of hazardous air pollutants were analyzed through measurements at the facilities using solid fuels (SRF, BIO-SRF). Analysis method of PAHs are based on the Korea Standard Methods for Examination. The analysis of PAHs showed that the concentration much higher in Naphthalene, and Benzo(a)pyrene showed at a higher concentration incertain sources. As a result of gas phase and particle phase PAHs, most of Benzo(a)pyrene appeared to be particulate. Through the results of this study will provide basic data for atmospheric environmental management.
Test activated carbon fiber (ACF) was prepared from Polyacrylonirile (PAN) through oxidation and chemical activation. Immersion of ACF precursors in the aqueous KOH solution enhanced the surface structure, as examined by BET pore analysis. Specific surface area increased greatly from less than $70m^2/g$ to $1226m^2/g$ with 4 M KOH, and total pore volume also rose up to $0.483cm^3/g$. In particular, it was found that micropores favorable for $CO_2$ molecule capture occupied more than 95%. Maximum $CO_2$ adsorption capacity was 3.59 mmol/g at 298 K. Low depth of pores in the present ACF may facilitate the molecules' desorption for its regeneration.
The purpose of this study was to fabricate a ferric nitrate impregnated activated carbon, and the performance for hydrogen sulfide by adsorption was evaluated. Sodium hydroxide was utilized to control pH in the process during generation of ferric hydroxide on the surface of the carbon. Critical mixing duration for generation of ferric hydroxide on the carbon was 48 hrs at pH 1 of the solution, in which the chemical adsorption of hydrogen sulfide was enhanced. The adsorption capacity of the impregnated carbon increased up to 0.10 g hydrogen sulfide/g carbon, which was 4.3 times higher than that of the raw carbon. Presence of FeOOH on the surface of the impregnated carbon was examined by X-ray diffraction.

The purpose of this study is to analyze traffic patterns by use of TRANSYT-7F Model, and to choose the optimum traffic-light cycle length and cycle splite to improve traffic flow and air quality at Samsung Intersection in Seoul. Emission rates of air pollutants are calculated for three time segments 0700-0900, 0900-1800 and 1800-2000. The traffic volume correlated reasonably well with air pollutants emitted ; however, the phasing and timing of traffic signals was found to equally be important. The results of performance with optimal setting indicate that the best cycle length were 80sec(0700-0900), 95sec(0900-1800) and 90sec(1800-2000), res-pectively. As expected the highest emissions of air pollutants were observed during the evening rush hours (1800-2000). A properly designed signalized intersection can help reduce traffic delay, driver discomfort, fuel consumption, and air pollution by efficiently the capacity of existing intersection.
