  • Clothing pressure is closely connected with the degree of comfort of an athlete's tight-fitting garments. Therefore, the construction of sports garments is very important to the wearer's athletic performance. In this study, the fundamental relationship between the reduction rates of stretch fabrics and clothing pressure was explored with the aim of improving clothing comfort and obtaining a systematic pattern reduction for women's tight-fitting bodysuits. A women's bodysuit pattern was obtained by the draping method using a dressform. The basic pattern was divided into four parts and changed into reduced pattems according to the amount of fabric stretch determined by ASTM D2594. Clothing pressure was measured using an air-pack-type pressure sensor (model AMI 3037-2) at 20 locations (shoulder, 9 locations; bust, 5; and armhole, 6). Among the 15 garments tested, the mean pressure of the A1 bodysuit was 4.60 $gf/cm^2$, and that of the C5 bodysuit was 22.98 $gf/cm^2$. The mean pressures of the bodysuits with reduction rates of 10% and 20% were below 10 $gf/cm^2$, while those of suits with reduction rates of 30%,40%, and 50% (except C5) were below 20 $gf/cm^2$. The pressure at the shoulder was 9.50$\sim$32.24 $gf/cm^2$, which was higher than that at the bust (3.34$\sim$24.56 $gf/cm^2$) and the armhole (0.95$\sim$12.15 $gf/cm^2$). The mean pressures of the 15 bodysuits were divided into five groups using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and were found to be significantly different (p<0.001). Regression analysis afforded the following expression: mean pressure ($gf/cm^2$) = 1.607 + 0.369[reduction rate (%)].

  • The purpose of this study was to identify middle-school boys' purchase behavior according to their shoes shopping orientation. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect from 314 subjects. Factor analysis, Chi-square test, and one-way ANOVA were done using SPSS PC (Ver. 18.0). Most middle-school boys selected shoes that were 255~270mm, possessed on to two pairs of school shoes, searched for information for about five days before purchase, had spent 50,000~150,000 won on one to two pairs of shoes during the previous six months, saw design, comfort, and brand as their selection criteria, chose their shoes by themselves, shoes specialty stores, had favorite brands, preferred athletic shoes made of achromatic canvas, and bought new shoes when their old ones wore out. Factors of shoe shopping orientation were fashion and brand, economy, conformity, and comfort, and students were grouped into an active shopping group, an underdeveloped shopping orientation group, and a value pursuit group. The active shopping group bought more shoes, spent more on shoes, selected their shoes themselves, patronized discount shoe stores or specialty stores, and preferred national brand shoes. The underdeveloped shopping orientation group accepted their friends' opinions when selecting shoes and bought cheaper shoes. The value pursuit group accepted their parents' opinions when selecting shoes, patronized internet shopping malls or traditional markets, and selected cheaper shoes. The shoe shopping orientation of middle-school boys was immature, but they showed strong consumption needs.

  • Squat exercise is one of the free weight exercises that are recognized as important from a bio-mechanical point of view. It is an important exercise to train lower extremity muscles in daily activities or sports activities and to strengthen trunk and lower body strength. It is effective and accurate to use a variety of assistive devices to calibrate athletic posture with squat exercise supported interactive device. The issues of the structural analysis for design a foot plate for squat exercise is to model the behavior by simplifying the dynamic behavior. In this paper, the authors proposed a exercise system design method for the vertical load distribution and bio-mechanical signal process used for the squat exercise mechanism analysis, and based on these results, designed device can make the more safe and reliable free weight exercise. It is applied to system design through design method with kinematic dynamic, VR device and estimation model of exercise.

  • The decathlon is an athletic event consisting of ten track and field events. Events are held over two consecutive days and the winners are determined by the combined performance in all. We considered the best 200 decathletes who competed in the recent Olympics games and World Championship decathlon. We have used correspondence analysis to identify the relationship between ordered individual performance and the overall performance. Canonical correlation analysis of first day events versus second day events could shed light on the change of the level of performance between the two days. Correlation analysis was used to verify relation between cumulative event rank and final decathlon rank. Therefore, we conclude that the decathlon favors those atheletes who do well at the track events to become the best players. The best players in the decathlon performed relatively poorly in the 1,500 metres, but did well in the long jump, the 400 metres and the 110-metre hurdles. Decathletes in this study have a positive correlation between overall performance and maximal excellence in a particular discipline. Thus, to compete successfully at this level, a uniform, relatively high performance in all individual disciplines is required.

  • The decathlon is an athletic event consisting of ten track and field events. Events are held over two consecutive days and the winners are determined by the combined performance in all. Performance is judged in meters, centimeters, minutes, and seconds. However, how to convert results into points is a difficult and controversial issue. We explored the distribution of decathlon results from the 1991 to 2009 using top 200 decathlons in the Olympic games and word championships. The conclusion is that the results from top level decathlon competition are normally distributed, and the current scoring system does not have the property that the performance with same difficulty should get same points. A new model for evaluating the decathlon score has been applied that display uniform characteristics over all events in order to meet the notion of allroundness. The proposed model is uniform over the events and support self-stabilization.

  • Modern people are exposed to obesity problems with convenient lifestyle, over nutrition, and lack of exercise. The greater the desire for longevity, the greater the problem of obesity. People work out in neighborhood parks, walkways, and hiking trails to improve their obesity. The municipal government encourages its residents to provide various exercise information by setting up signs on the promenade or hiking trail. However, conventional exercise signs do not provide various athletic and health information because they are built-in fixed type. Therefore, this study suggests scientific exercise management through smart health screen in accordance with the healthcare IT age. The IT-based smart health screen provides real-time calorie consumption, step count, and heart rate. The systematic and scientific exercise management provided by the smart health screen helps the locals to control the amount of exercise and strength suitable for each individual. In addition, walking without special cost makes it possible to manage health and obesity. We hope that our research will be of little help in resolving obesity.

  • This paper seeks to find out the policies of management and layout of middle school rooms for the community people's use. This paper surveys community's needs with respect to both the use of school rooms before, during, and after classes and preferences of use of school rooms. This paper adopts two experimental case studies to find out the models. It uses t-test analysis of the statistics to find out community people's preferences for the use of school rooms between two communities in an urban area, and uses simple and multiple regression analyses to develop models concerning community people's uses of school rooms before, during, and after classes. It also uses cluster analysis to find out the cluster among community people's preference of school rooms. It found, first, that community people's use of school rooms after class can be influenced by the uses of a play ground, a music classroom, an audio visual classroom, and a gymnasium. The use during regular classes is related to the uses of the fine arts classroom, a general classroom, a home economics classroom, a gymnasium, and a playground. The use before class is affected by the uses of a fine arts classroom, a playground, and a library. It also found that, with respect to community people's preferential use of school rooms, the rooms can be clustered as a cluster of laboratories such as a general classroom, a music room, a fine arts classroom, a science classroom, a home economics classroom, and a technique classroom, a cluster of athletic areas such as a gymnasium and a playground, and a cluster of supporting facilities such as a library, an audio visual classroom, and a computer classroom. Those clusters can also be clustered in more detail, i. e., that both a general classroom and playground can be apart from a cluster of laboratories or a cluster of supporting facilities; that an audio visual classroom can be fostered into a cluster with a home economics affairs classroom and a technique classroom. Finally this paper suggests policies of management and layout of school rooms.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate relationships between the appraisal type of competency and aggression in elementary school students. Appraisal type was divided into inflated/deflated ratings. Appraisal type in competencies, and sex were independent variables, and aggression was dependent variables. SPPC, TRS and AS were administered to 419 students and 20 teachers. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, the correlation of child-teacher with perceived competence ratings was the highest in the scholastic competence. Second, frequency of deflated appraisal was the highest in the behavioral conduct. Third, physical aggression is differentiated by the sex. And physical aggression was high when athletic competence was deflated. Fourth, physical aggression, hostility and anger were high when physical appearance was deflated. Fifth, hostility is significantly different by the interaction effect between sex and appraisal type of behavioral conduct. The above findings imply that appraisal type in competencies does not always result in aggression and this study will provide a useful insight for aggression reduction in elementary school students.
