Objective: The Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT) and Y-Balance Test (YBT) have been commonly applied to measure dynamic postural stability ability. These two tests are utilized interchangeably in various settings. However, they could in fact require different movements to assess dynamic postural stability, as one uses a platform and different measuring techniques than the other. The purpose of this study was to determine if there was a significant difference in the kinematic patterns in physically active population while performing the SEBT and the YBT. Method: Seventy participants performed in the Anterior (AN), Posteromedial (PM), and Posterolateral (PL) directions of the SEBT and the YBT. The kinematics of hip, knee, and ankle in sagittal plane was calculated and analyzed. Paired-sample t-tests were performed to compare joint angular displacement in the ankle, knee, and hip between the SEBT and the YBT. Results: Significant differences in angular displacement at the hip, knee, and ankle joints in the sagittal plane between performance on the SEBT and on the YBT were observed. Conclusion: Clinicians and researchers should not apply these dynamic postural control tasks interchangeably from one task to another. There appear to be kinematic pattern differences between tests in healthy physical active population.
Recently, in the field of sports, the use of data in conducting games, planning seasons, and operating teams has increased significantly. Also, in order to develop better players, it has become necessary to use data to accurately analyze their performance. Therefore, in this study, various data about rookie players was collected and pre-processed in order to analyze and visualize their performance. Additionally, an analysis was conducted to determine at least how many opportunities should be given to foster rookie players. Then, a data analysis method was presented for nurturing athletes by using data in the field of sports. It is expected that this study will contribute to fostering rookie players by utilizing data.
Object detection has always been to pursue objects with particular properties or representations and to predict details on objects including the positions, sizes and angle of rotation in the current picture. This was a very important subject of computer vision science. While vision-based object tracking strategies for the analysis of competitive videos have been developed, it is still difficult to accurately identify and position a speedy small ball. In this study, deep learning (DP) network was developed to face these obstacles in the study of tennis motion tracking from a complex perspective to understand the performance of athletes. This research has used CNN-VGG 16 to tracking the tennis ball from broadcasting videos while their images are distorted, thin and often invisible not only to identify the image of the ball from a single frame, but also to learn patterns from consecutive frames, then VGG 16 takes images with 640 to 360 sizes to locate the ball and obtain high accuracy in public videos. VGG 16 tests 99.6%, 96.63%, and 99.5%, respectively, of accuracy. In order to avoid overfitting, 9 additional videos and a subset of the previous dataset are partly labelled for the 10-fold cross-validation. The results show that CNN-VGG 16 outperforms the standard approach by a wide margin and provides excellent ball tracking performance.

Objective: This study aimed to identify the different wind speed categories and competitive level among windsurfers through GPS variables to provide the useful information on the development of training programs for enhancing windsurfers' performance. Method: Data from 69 female athletes who participated in 27 races during the 2018-2019 windsurfing season were used for the analysis. Average board speed, total race time, total distance, upwind race time, downwind race time, beam reach race time were collected through GPS. Unconfirmed data were excluded along with penalty point data. The wind conditions were classified as light, light to medium, medium, medium to heavy, and heavy wind, the competitive levels were classified as level 1, level 2, and level 3. Results: As for the average board speed, the level 1 or level 2 group showed higher board speed than the level 3 group in all wind conditions except for the light wind. The total race time and upwind race time showed less time in level 1 or level 2 group than level 3 group in all wind conditions. The total distance, downwind race time and beam reach race time showed less distance and time in level1 group than level 3 group under sufficient wind conditions. Conclusion: Our results show that the aerobic capacity to sustain pumping during upwind course in wind conditions below 15 kts effects performance. In wind conditions of 15 kts or more, indicated that the board control for the fast board speed and small distance required during up, down, beam reach courses had an effect on competition performance. This information can be provided to windsurfers and coaching as basic data for training programs to improve performance.

The purpose of this study is to confirm the effects of a 6-week high-intensity combined training program on canoe athletes' cardiorespiratory function, isokinetic trunk strength, and anaerobic power. For the purpose of this study, the high-intensity combined training program was applied to 9 high-school canoe athletes. The high-intensity combined training program consists of aerobic exercise performed 2 times a week (Tuesday and Thursday), anaerobic exercise performed 3 times a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday), and flexibility exercise performed 5 times a week. The core of the high-intensity combined training program was the anaerobic training program performed with 100% weight for repetition; otherwise, the existing training method was divided into the percentage (%) of the 1RM. The aerobic exercise and the gym ball exercise are performed subsidiarily. Results showed that there was a statistically significant difference in height and muscle mass, whereas there was no statistically significant difference in weight, body fat percentage, and BMI followed by the high-intensity combined training program. There were statistically significant differences in maximum oxygen uptake and total exercise time. The angular velocity of 30°/sec showed a statistically significant difference in the peak torque item of flexors only. Also, the angular velocity of 120°/sec showed a statistically significant difference in the total work item of extensors only; however, there was no statistically significant difference in all the items of peak power, average power, and peak drop. In conclusion, it seems that the high-intensity combined training program may be applied as a training program for enhancing canoe athletes' performance. For further studies, more than 6 weeks training program with more participants would show improved results of isokinetic strength and anaerobic power in athlets.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of passive-acute temperature therapy of the femoral muscle and dynamic warm-up on the countermovement jump performance. Method: Twenty male track and field athletes from national team underwent three treatments applied on the femoral muscles; cold temperature treatment, thermal treatment and dynamic warm-up. The variables extracted at 2 time points (pre-measurement and post measurement) were the temperature of the left and right femoral muscle, displacement & velocity of centre of mass, peak power out, range of motion and moment & power of the knee joint. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in the temperature of the femoral muscle according to measurement time which was high in the order of thermal treatment, dynamic treatment and cold treatment. The jump height was the highest in the dynamic warm-up with no statistically significant difference for the range of motion of the knee joint. The peak power out at dynamic warm-up and the power of the knee joint were statistically significant according to the treatment and measurement time. Conclusion: Local cold and thermal treatment of femoral muscles at ambient temperature did not improve jump performance, while dynamic warm-up was considered to be effective for maintaining the performance of the activities that require strong muscular power.
The purpose of this study is to contribute to the activation of sports for the disabled people in Korea through the localization of the road racing handcycles. Recently, there are no handcycles produced in Korea, and all the players are using products made in foreign countries. In the case of foreign products, it is made to fit the body shape of foreign athletes. Therefore, when domestic players are using them, they put additional parts to foreign products in order to fit their body shape. This not only adds to the cost burden, but also causes a decrease in the performance of the athletes. In order to overcome these problems, we developed the road racing handcycle in consideration of the body shape of the Koreans and conducted a comparative usability evaluation with the foreign products to evaluate the performance of the developed prototype. Therefore, we analyzed the quantitative and qualitative evaluation results of the prototype produced in the previous study, and developed the Korean road racing handcycle that can improve the competitiveness while considering the shape of domestic players. Based on the problems derived from the first prototype, this study additionally constructed a crank, an air intake part and a discharge part, and a rear anti-shake prevention device. In order to evaluate the usability, we conducted a comparative usability assessment with the foreign products used by the current standing handcycle athletes. The results were measured in the area of effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction, and the prototype developed through the research on efficiency and satisfaction excluding effectiveness was evaluated to be higher than those of foreign products. This study will contribute to the improvement of international competitiveness due to import substitution effects of foreign products and exports by lowering the handcycle cost of importing foreign handcycle.
In this study, a test system which can test performance of curling pad was developed to support Korea curling team. The developed system consists of a water tank, a mechanical pad driving system that can perform sweeping movement using a curling pad on surface of ice made by the water tank, and temperature sensors monitoring ice and air temperatures. To control the temperature of ice and humidity/temperature of air around the ice, all system are installed in a chamber that can isolate the developed system from external environment. Eight kinds of curling pads were tested using the developed system. Test result showed that each curling pad revealed different rate of ice temperature increasing. The pad with the highest rate of ice temperature rising was found to be the same as the most preferred pad by the athletes. Therefore, it was confirmed that the method of measuring change of ice temperature by the sweeping performed in this study is an effective method to test the performance of the pad.
Cycling that transform human energy into mechanical energy is one of the man-machine systems out of sports fields. Benchmarking means "improving ourselves by learning from others', therefore benchmarking toward dominant cyclist is necessary on field. The goals of this study were to provide important factors on multi-disciplines (kinematics, physiology, power, psychology) for a tailored-training program that is suitable to individual characteristics. Two cyclists participated in this study and gave consent to the experimental procedure. One was dominant cyclist (years: 21 yrs, height: 177 cm, mass: 70 kg), and the other was non-dominant cyclist (years: 21, height: 176, mass: 70). Kinematic data were recorded using six infrared cameras (240Hz) and QTM (software). Physiological data (VO2max, AT) were acquired according to graded exercising test with cycle ergometer and power with Wingate test used by Bar-Or et. al (1977) and to evaluate muscle function with Cybex. Psychological data were collected with competitive state anxiety inventory (CSAI-2) that was devised by Martens et. al (1990) and athletes' self-management questionnaire (ASMQ) of Huh (2003). It appears that the dominant's CV of ankle joint angle was higher than non-dominant's CV and dominant's pedaling pattern was consistent in biomechanics domain, which the dominant's values for all factors ware higher than non-dominant's values in physical, and physiological domain, and their values between cognitive anxiety and somatic anxiety were contrary to each other in psychology. Further research on multi-disciplines may lead to the development of tailored-optimal training programs applicable with key factors to enhance athletic performance by means of research including athlete, coach and parents.
