  • A 3D transient heat transfer model is developed by ABAQUS software to study the temperature distribution during friction stir welding process at different rotational speeds. Furthermore, AA 5083-O plates were joined by FSW technique. For this purpose, a universal milling machine was used to perform the welding process and a mechanical vice was used to fix the work pieces in the proper position. The joints were friction stir welded at a constant travel speed 50 mm/min and two rotational speed values; 400 rpm and 630 rpm using two types of tools; cylindrical threaded pin and tapered smooth one. At each welding condition the temperature was measured using infra-red thermal image camera to verify the simulated temperature distribution. The welded joints were visually inspected as well as by macro- and microstructure evolutions. In addition, the welded joints were mechanically tested for hardness and tensile strength. The maximum peak temperature obtained was at higher rotational speed using the threaded tool pin profile. The results showed that the rotational speed affects the peak temperature, defects formation and sizes, and the mechanical properties of friction stir welded joints. Moreover, the threaded tool gives superior mechanical properties than the tapered one at lower rotational speed.

  • In this study, designing of precise linear transferring device which can be applied to industrial machine and robot industry has been introduced. The direction of power flow and output feature are similar to current Rack-Pinion type. However, unlimited length extensity via rack modulizing, and securing high velocity transportation have been realized by applying Pin-Pinion Gear type at the operation part. The analysis has been calculated to obtain the Pin-Pinion Gear's optimized tooth profile. As a result of research, it is impossible to control precisely even overlap at the teeth of involute and sprocket. Because they have peculiar gearing structure. Therefore, modified cycloid tooth has been proposed to perform high velocity, precise control without backlash.

  • This paper describes a simulation of secondary motion of piston assemblies using PISDYN by Ricardo. Motions of the piston, pin, rod and skirt are separately calculated, by integrating equations of motion for individual components and dynamic degrees of freedom. The effects of engine speed at full load and pin offsets on the piston assembly secondary motions, forces and friction were investigated in parametric study for 4-cylinder gasoline engine. Results show that lateral displacement and friction loss of the piston increase as a function of engine speed. The lateral motion of the piston is affected by the change in pin offset. The minimum friction loss for the condition of 4800rpm WOT occurs at a pin offset of 1.6mm.

  • Highly efficient and stable white PIN OLED structures have been developed with a focus on possible AM display applications. Due to the use of the novel air-stable Novaled n-dopant material NDN26, the mass production compatibility of the PIN approach is improved. With both a conventional n-dopant, NDN1, and a novel air-stable n-dopant, NDN26, similar performance in efficiency and lifetime are reached. Based on highly a stable red fluorescent emitter system, the Novaled PIN approach allows for reaching ultra-long lifetimes of 1,000,000 hours at a brightness of $1,000\;cd/m^2$, both for top and for bottom emission layouts. Furthermore, inverted PIN structures for a possible use in a-Si backplane applications for AM displays are shown. With a phosphorescent green emitter system it could be demonstrated that for bottom and inverted as well as non-inverted top emission, a brightness of $1,000\;cd/m^2$ can be reached at below 3 V. In addition to low operating voltages and long lifetimes, PIN OLEDs also enable for device structures with extremely low operating voltage drifts, a feature of increasing importance for future AM display developments.

  • We have isolated several proteinase inhibitor II genes pin2 from a Russet Burbank potato DNA library. One of these, pin2T was subcloned and a 1.8 kb Xbal/Nsil insert was sequenced. This fragment contained the complete Inhibitor II gene including 965 Up of flanking DNA upstream from the gene and 200 bp of flanking DNA downstream from the gene. The open reading frame encodes a protein that is similar to other reported proteinase Inhibitor II proteins. The DNA sequence of the 5' flanking region of pin2T from -714 to +1 is highly homologous (91% identity) with that of the previously isolated wound-inducible pin2K. There are, however, four small deletions in the pin2T promoter which are located at -221 to -200, -263 to -254, -523 to -426 and -759 to -708 relative to the transcription start site of the wound-inducible pin2K. Three of these deletions map to a portion of the promoter that controls the wound-inducibility of the proteinase inhibitor genes. Chimeric genes containing the promoter of the pin2T gene linked with the both CAT and GUS were constructed and transfered into tobacco plants. Analysis of these plants indicated that pin2T is not a wound-inducible gene but is expressed at low levels. Thus, wound-inducibility is lost with the concomitant natural deletion of three small regions of the promoter. Comparision of the sequences deleted in pin2T relative to the pin2K with Genebank sequences indicates that the deleted sequences contain a motif (consensus 5'-AGTAAA-3') that is found in many other wound-inducible genes but not easily found in the published promoter sequences of other plant genes. Nuclear proteins from unwounded and wounded potato leaves were bound to the proximal promoter region, downstream of the 5'-AGTAAA-3', of pin2T. The comparison of the pin2T gone with the pin2K gene indicates that the natural internal promoter deletions are likely responsible for loss of the wound-inducible phenotype in the pin2T gene.

  • In this study, failure analysis of the angular pin for molding machines to aluminum component molding was carried out. SM45C steel was used for the angular pin, it was surface hardened by the induction surface hardening heat treatment. The cross section of damaged angular pin was observed, and micro Vickers hardness value from the fractured part was measured. Brittle fracture was occurred from the fracture surface of angular pin, therefore, impact toughness value was evaluated by V-notch Charpy impact test. It was confirmed that the impact absorption energy was high when was tempered at a high temperature for a long time, and the toughness was slightly increased. Also, 2-parameter Weibull statistical analysis was investigated in order to evaluate the reliability of the measured micro Vickers hardness values and absorbed energy. The micro Vickers hardness and absorbed energy well followed a two-parameter Weibull probability distribution, respectively. The reverse design against angular pin was proposed as possible by using test results.

  • The spread of smart phones provides users with a variety of services, making their lives more convenient. In particular, financial transactions can be easily made online after user authentication using a smart phone. Users easily access the service by authenticating using a PIN, but this makes them vulnerable to social engineering attacks such as spying or recording. We aim to increase security against social engineering attacks by applying the authentication method including imaginary numbers when entering a password at the door lock to smart phones. Door locks perform PIN authentication within the terminal, but in smart phones, PIN authentication is handled by the server, so there is a problem in transmitting PIN information safely. Through the proposed technique, multiple PINs containing imaginary numbers are generated and transmitted as processed values such as hash values, thereby ensuring the stability of transmission and enabling safe user authentication through a technique that allows the PIN to be entered without exposure.

  • In this paper, a shorting pin and slot-loaded microstrip patch antenna is designed and fabricated. A shorting pin and slots are used for harmonic suppression on an inset fed antenna. A shorting pin and slot properties are analyzed by cavity model of the rectangular patch and the characteristics of the designed antenna are described. The designed antenna provides a gain of 7 dBi at the fundamental frequency, 5.8 GHz. In the second and third harmonic frequencies, the proposed antenna has gain suppression properties of -3.3 dB and -14.3 dB at each harmonic frequency, respectively.

  • Material properties such as coolant specific heat, film heat transfer coefficient, cladding thermal conductivity, surface diffusion coefficient of the multi-bubble are improved in MACSIS-Mod1. The axial power and flux profile module was also incorporated with irradiation history. The performance and feasibility of the updated driver fuel pin have been analyzed for nominal parameters based on the conceptual design for the KALIMER breakeven core by MACSIS-MOD1 code. The fuel slug centerline temperature takes the maximum at 700mm from the bottom of the slug in spite of the nearly symmetric axial power distribution. The cladding mid-wall and coolant temperatures take the maximum at the top of the pin. Temperature of the fuel slug surface over the entire irradiation life is much lower than the fuel-clad eutectic reaction temperature. The fission gas release of the driver fuel pin at the end of life is predicted to be $68.61\%$ and plenum pressure is too low to cause cladding yielding. The probability that the fuel pin would fail is estimated to be much less than that allowed in the design criteria. The maximum radial deformation of the fuel pin is $1.93\%$, satisfying the preliminary design criterion ($3\%$) for fuel pin deformation. Therefore the conceptual design parameters of the driver fuel pin for the KALIMER breakeven core are expected to satisfy the preliminary criteria on temperature, fluence limit, deformation limit etc.

  • The proposed hybrid damper installs at a coupling beam and consists of a high-damping rubber (HDR) and steel pin. The proposed hybrid damper adopted a pin-lock system acts as a viscoelastic damper under wind load (small displacement) while it behaves as a hysteretic damper under earthquake load (large displacement). In this paper, the pin-lock mechanism and structural performance of the proposed hybrid damper is evaluated through experiment. Experiments were carried out with the variables which displacement, loading frequency and steel pin quantities were used. Test results showed that the pin-lock mechanism and the performance of the hybrid damper under a large displacement were verified. Also equivalent damping ratios of HDR were increasing at a small displacement as displacement amplitudes were increasing. However HDR did not depend on frequency.
