A PIN photodiode having a low dark current of 1.35 nA and a high external quantum efficiency of 95.3% fabricated for a passive optical network receiver. As the current was increased under a high voltage of 38 V and a temperature of $190^{\circ}C$, it was observed that there is a threshold current at 11 mA which induces a junction failure. Experimental data suggest that the junction failure occurs due to the crystal breaking at the end facet as a result of thermal heat or energetic carriers. This threshold behavior of junction failure is a valuable observation for the safe treatment of photodiodes. As long as the current is limited below the threshold currents, we have not observed failure events of our photodiodes.
To understand the signal transduction pathway that leads to the activation of the wound-inducible proteinase inhibitor II (pin2) promoter. $F_2$ progenies of wound (-) mutant crossed with wild-type Arabidopsis plants were biochemically and genetically characterized. Wound (-) mutant was derived from transgenic Arabidopsis plants containing bacterial cytosine deaminase gene under the control of pin2 promoter. The cytosine deaminase assays indicated that wound (-) mutant is a dominant inhibitor of wound-inducibility as only 3 of the $20F_2$ progenies showed cytosine deaminase (CDase) activity, To construct a structural map of the wound (-) mutant chromosomal regions, cleaved, amplified polymorphic sequences (CAPS) markers that cover all Chromosomes were used. Chromosomal regions covered by three different CAPS markers could be candidates for further fine mapping of the location of the wound (-) mutation. g4026, RGA1 and ASA1 located at 84.9 on recombinant inbred (RI) map of chromosome I, at 1.75 on RI map of chromosome II, and 18.35 on RI map of chromosome V, respectively.
In the present study, the electrical sliding wear and corrosion resistance of pure copper (Cu) and six age-hardened copper alloys (CuCr, CuZr, CuCrZr, CuNiSiCr, CuBe and CuBeNi) were investigated by a pin-on-disc tribometer and electrochemical measurement. Various copper-based alloys in the form of cylindrical pin were forced to slide against a counterface stainless steel disc in air under unlubricated condition at a sliding velocity of 31 km/h under normal load up to 20 N with and without electric current. The worn surface of and wear debris from the specimens were studied by scanning electron microscopy. Both mechanical wear and electrical arc erosion were the wear mechanisms for the alloys worn at 50 A. Owing to its good electrical conductivity, high wear and corrosion resistance, CuCrZr is a promising candidate as the overhead catenary material for electric traction systems.

The 3D absolute displacement monitoring system has been developed to analyze the tunnel convergence measured under construction of underground structures and to manage effectively the measured data. The system is comprised of the total station, the anchor-typed target pin and the 3D absolute displacement measurement and management program. In this paper, the types and specifications of the 3D total station were presented. The anchor-typed target pin, an improved model of traditional one, was developed and its sightable distance and measurement accuracy were checked by field tests. Also a 3D absolute displacement measurement and management program, TEMS 3D, was developed to provide some analysis tools including the trend and influence lines. L/C ratio, S/C ratio and the like. The developed system was applied the construction stage of a railway tunnel for testing purpose. It is verified that the developed system is capable of predicting weak zones ahead of tunnel face by comparing with results of TSP (Tunnel Seismic Prediction) survey.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the carbonization pattern and operation characteristics of an MCCB. The MCCB is consisted of the actuator lever, actuator mechanism, bimetallic strip, contacts, up and down operator, arc divider or extinguisher, metal operation pin, terminal part, etc. When the actuator lever of the MCCB is at the top or the internal metal operation pin is in contact with the front part, the MCCB is turned on or off. It means trip state if the actuator lever or the internal metal operation pin moves to back side. In the UL 94 vertical combustion test, white smoke occurred from the MCCB when an average of 17~24 seconds elapsed after the MCCB was ignited and black smoke occurred when an average of 45~50 seconds elapsed. It took 5~6 minutes for the MCCB surface to be half burnt and took an average of 8~9 minutes for the MCCB surface to be entirely burnt. In the UL 94 test, the MCCB trip device operated when an average 7~8 minutes elapsed. If the MCCB trip has occurred, it may have been caused by an electrical problem such as a short-circuit, overcurrent, etc., as well as fire heat. From the entire part combustion test according to KS C 3004, it was found that the metal operation pin could be moved to the MCCB trip position without any electrical problems.
It is necessary to study about moment performance of glulam-dowel connections which had been applied rotation. To analyze and predict the moment performance, angled to grain load was replaced with parallel to grain load and perpendicular to grain load. The dowel bending strength and dowel bearing strength were tested. And tensile strength test for connections of two different end distances was performed. Specimens of rotation test were composed with different drift pin numbers and drift pin arrangement. Connection deformation was occurred by plastic behavior of drift pin after yield when tensile load applied at connection. And the absorbing drift pin deflection by end distance continued the connection deformation. When rotation applied at connection that 2 drift pins were arranged parallel to grain (b2h), it showed similar performance with tensile perpendicular to grain. And connection that 2 drift pins were arranged perpendicular to grain (b2v) showed similar performance with tensile parallel to grain. Connection capacity that 4 drift pins were arranged rectangular (b4) showed 1.7 times as strong as connection that 2 drift pins were arranged parallel to grain (b2h). These results agreed predicted values and it is available that rotation replaced with tensile load.
Acute transient synovitis of the hip presents clinically pain and limping. But in the majority of the cases, definite positive findings are not manifest in roentgenogram in its early phase. However radionuclide bone imaging combines with the assessment of vascularization and bone tracer uptake is of great value in solving this diagnostic problem. The materials for this study consisted of 29 children with acute transient synovitis of the hip, characterized by symptoms and physical signs of an arthritis, negative X-ray findings and disappearance of all symptoms and signs within a short period of time. They were twenty males and 9 females and age ranged from 1 to 12 years. We took pelvic reontgenogram in AP and frog-leg views. After intravenous bolus injection of 10 to 15 mCi of $^{99m}Tc-methylene$ diphosphonate, 24 sequential image of the pelvis was taken at 2-second interval for blood flow study. The scintigrams were made using a gamma camera with high resolution parallel hole collimator. Blood pool imaging was obtained at 2 minutes after tracer administration. After 3 hours, static images were taken and then closeup image of the hip using pin-hole collimator was followed. The results were as follows: 1) Bone scintigram was much more sensitive than conventional roentgenogram in diagnosis of acute transient synovitis of the hip. 2) Three-phase imagings showed increased vascular activities in blood pool scintigrams in 96%. 3) Pin-hole imaging showed increased tracer uptake in the regional bones of the hip, par ticularly in the medial aspect of femoral head and acetabulum. 4) We confirmed that three-phase imaging reinforced with pin-hole technique were very useful in diagnose of acute transient synovitis of the hip.
In order to investigate the effect of the ceramic reinforcements on the wear properties of aluminum bronze composites, Cu-8wt%Al aluminum bronze alloys reinforced with the Saffil alumina short fiber were produced by the powder metallurgical method and tested by a pin-ondisc wear testing machine. The wear surfaces of the pin specimens and discs, wear debris, and the cross sections of the wear specimens were observed by SEM. The wear mechanism according to various wear conditions and the change of microstructure in the composites were also discussed. In the results, the reinforcement of the composites with alumina short fiber was very effective at the higher applied load over 10N. The material transportation to the counter disc was observed in the alloy specimens without reinforcements. However, the composites reinforced with ceramic particles and fibers showed the resistance against the material transportation.

The friction and wear characteristics of CrN and TiN coatings on SKD61 which is mold material using for extrusion of AZ80 magnesium alloy were investigated. The coatings were deposited by the arc ion-plating method, and the thickness were about $3.59{\mu}m$ and $3.28{\mu}m$, respectively. Reciprocating friction wear tests were conducted by varying pin load and temperature of counter substrate at un-lubricated condition. The pin loads were 11, 15 and 19 kgf, and the substrate temperatures were room temperature and $120^{\circ}C$. CrN coating which has a lower friction coefficient and a smaller adhesive wear with AZ80 magnesium alloy showed better wear resistance than TiN coating.
This study exploits the robot system which is necessary in gene study, bio-technology industry. As well, it can achieve the job of DNA chip manufacturing whose use rate has been increased recently. The robot consists of DNA spotting device for spotting DNA on the silylated slide and well plate, bed for fixing well-plate, washing & drying device of washing and drying the pin part of DNA spotting device, distillation-water vessel, and discharge vessel of wash water. We made the term of sticking DNA to the pin on well plate to be 15 seconds. The spot size of DNA was set to be 0.28 mm on the average by bringing the slide into contact with pin for 1 second. At this rate, if DNA is spotted in the minimum space possible of about 0.32mm, it can stick about 8,100 DNA spots on the well plate. Analyzing the procedure: Movement starts. Pin washes, dries, and smears DNA on the well plate. Spots DNA onto 12 chips takes 2 minutes and 50 seconds.
