  • This paper presents control strategies for cascaded H-bridge multilevel active power filters (APFs). A current loop controller is implemented using a proportional-resonant (PR) regulator, which achieves zero steady-state error at target frequencies. The power balancing mechanism for the dc-link capacitor voltages is analyzed and a voltage balancing controller is presented. To mitigate the picket-fence effect of the conventional FFT algorithm under asynchronous sampling conditions, the Hanning Windowed-FFT algorithm is proposed for reference current generation (RCG). This calculates the frequency, amplitude and phase of individual harmonic components accurately and as a result, selective harmonic compensation (SHC) is achieved. Simulation and experimental results are presented, which verify the validity and effectiveness of the devised control algorithms.

  • In a widely distributed environment, many occasions arise when people need to filter informationwith email clients. The existing information agents such as Maxims and Message Assistant have capabilities of filtering email messages either by an autonomous agent or by user-defined rules. FlexMA, a variation of FAMES (Flexible Asynchronous Messaging System) is proposed as an information filtering agent. Agents in our system can be scaled up to adapt user's various demands by controlling messages delivered among heterogeneous email clients. Several functionalities are split into each agent in terms of component configuration with the addition of multiple agents'cooperation and negotiation. User-defined rules are collected and executed by these agents in a semi-autonomous manner. This paper demonstrates how this design is feasible in a flexible message system.

  • In the Internet of Things(IoT) era, many of the things or objects that enclose our environments are able to associate with those things on the Internet. To construct IoT systems, it needs to consider a component for acquiring and aggregating of sensory data via things with sensors and instruments, which is connected by diverse networks, in IoT environment. An IoT system is intrinsically distributed in a variety of ways. In addition, to manage an IoT system efficiently, interoperability is needed to meet requirements while the IoT system is designed to deliver data among its applications. In this paper, a reference architecture based on asynchronous messaging is defined and used for designing an IoT system. To apply the architecture, we discuss how to manage data streams with real-time characteristics and make a prototype based on pipe-and-filter to produce and consume them by a pub/sub messaging system NaradaBrokering.

  • The function of location estimation in WPAN has been studied and specified on the ultra wide band optionally. But the devices based on CSS(Chirp Spread Spectrum) specification has been used widely in the market because of its functionality, cheapness and support of development. As the CSS device uses 2.4GHz for a carrier frequency and the sampling frequency is lower than that of the UWB, the resolution of a timestamp is very coarse. Then actually the error of a measured distance is very large about 30cm~1m at 10 m depart. And the location error in ($10m{\times}10m$) environment is known as about 1m~2m. So for some applications which require more accurate location information, it is very natural and important to develop a sophisticated post processing algorithm after distance measurements. In this paper, we have studied extended Kalman filter with the frequency offsets of anchor nodes, and proposed a novel algorithm frequency offset compensated extended Kalman filter. The frequency offsets are composed with a variable as a common frequency offset and constants as individual frequency offsets. The proposed algorithm shows that the accurate location estimation, less than 10cm distance error, with CSS WPAN nodes is possible practically.

  • This paper presents analog front-end(AFE) circuits for bio-potential measurement. The proposed AFE is composed of IA(instrument amplifier), BPF(band-pass filter), VGA(variable gain amplifier) and SAR(successive approximation register) type ADC. The low gm(LGM) circuits with current division technique and Miller capacitance with high gain amplifier enable IA to implement on-chip AC-coupling without external passive components. Spilt capacitor array with capacitor division technique and asynchronous control make the 12-b ADC with low power consumption and small die area. The total current consumption of proposed AFE is 6.3uA at 1.8V.

  • Direct torque control based on space vector modulation (SVM-DTC) protects the DTC transient merits. Furthermore, it creates better quality steady-state performance in a wide speed range. The modified method of DTC using SVM improves the electrical magnitudes of asynchronous machines, such as minimizing the stator current distortions, the stator flux with electromagnetic torque without ripple, the fast response of the rotor speed, and the constant switching frequency. In this paper, the proposed method is based on two new control strategies for direct torque control with space vector modulation. First, fuzzy logic control is used instead of the PI torque and a PI flux controller to minimizing the torque error and to achieve a constant switching frequency. The voltages in the direct and quadratic reference frame ($V_d$, $V_q$) are achieved by fuzzy logic control. In this scheme, the switching capability of the inverter is fully utilized, which improves the system performance. Second, the close loop of stator flux estimation based on the voltage model and a low pass filter is used to counteract the drawbacks in the open loop of the stator flux such as the problems saturation and dc drift. The response of this new control strategy is compared with DTC-SVM. The experimental and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed control topology outperforms the conventional DTC-SVM in terms of system robustness and eliminating the bad outcome of dc-offset.

  • In this paper, a multistage parallel interference canceller (MPIC) and a partial multistage parallel interference canceller (PMPIC) are employed as a technique for improving the performance of the asynchronous DS-CDMA systems. The degree of the effect of the timing errors and phase errors on the interference cancellation capability of two types of cancellers is theoretically analyzed and the computer simulation is performed to confirm the analytical results. From the results, the large performance improvement is obtained by employing MPIC and PMPIC with perfect synchronization over the conventional matched filter, and the performance improvement obtained by MPIC and PMPIC is very close to each other as the number of the stage of MPIC and PMPIC increases. When the timing errors and phase errors are considered (in the case of imperfect synchronization), the performance improvement reduces as the performance degradation at the first stage (no cancellation) has a bad effect on the decision statistics at each stage. However MPIC and PMPIC have the strong interference cancellation capability in spite of imperfect synchronization as the number of the stage increases. An interference canceller, which has the strong interference cancellation capability as well as lower complexity for the implementation, is needed for practical systems with timing errors and phase errors because the perfect synchronization is impossible. Therefore, the excellent tradeoff between complexity and performance offered by PMPIC makes it an attractive approach for practical systems.
