The paper aims to investigate the asymmetric long-run and short-run relationships between inflation and remittance outflows in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (hereafter KSA) over the period 1971-2019 by using the Nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (NARDL) model. The statistical tests have supported the validity and stability of the model. The Wald F-test statistics confirm the existence of a long-run equilibrium relationship among the model variables; remittance outflows, positive (negative) shocks in inflation rates, investment, real GDP, and trade openness. Moreover, the empirical results confirm the existence of an asymmetric effect of the inflation rate on remittance outflows. The response of foreign workers to an increase in inflation rates differs from their response to a decrease in inflation rates. However, this asymmetric relationship between the increases/decreases in inflation and remittance outflows is significantly weak. The weakness of this relationship is due to the high marginal remittance propensity of migrant workers, which is explained by the low consumption propensity of foreign workers and their ability to adjust to the high cost of living due to inflation and the imposition of accompanying fees. Finally, the change in the inflation rate is not among the main factors influencing foreign remittance decisions in Saudi Arabia.
As interdependence and conflict are important to the understanding of channel interactions, many researchers have studied their relationship. Identifying the relationship between interdependence and conflict will help understanding an exchange relationship. In social science, the relationship between interdependence and conflict is explained by two contradictory theories, and there are also inconsistent results in marketing science. The authors suggest non-linear relations between asymmetric interdependence and conflict, based on bilateral deterrence theory and conflict spiral theory. Using survey data from industrial market, we demonstrate that there is an inverted U-shaped relationship between asymmetric interdependence and interfirm conflict. The result show, as the magnitude of interdependence is high. the hypothesis on the non-linear relationship between asymmetric interdependence and conflicts is acceptable on both suppliers and distributors. Finally, we discuss several theoretical implications and suggest limitations and future research issues.

The thick plate produced by rolling process is used as the basic members of a ship structure. In this paper, we present a setup model to control the asymmetric factors causing plate bending in the upper or lower direction during rolling. A series of finite element analysis are conducted to predict the relationship between various asymmetric factors and plate bending. The setup model is developed by regressing the relationship to the linear equations with several non-dimensional parameters. The setup model is verified by a pilot rolling test and applied to actual rolling conditions. Results show that the model is substantial to predict the asymmetric deformation in the plate rolling process.
This study investigates the relative effect of symmetric and asymmetric relationship between franchiser and franchisee on the relational outcome of franchise alliance in education industry. To verify the research model, 240 samples, which is related with eduction service, were collected, among which 200 were used for the analysis. The outcome suggests that the asymmetric relationship in an alliance negatively influenced the relational quality, among which asymmetric alliance-specific investments had the most significant effect. On the other hand, the relational quality was positively influenced when the alliance relationship was symmetric, especially when the interactional fairness was high. Furthermore, compared to foreign franchise, local franchise presented higher level of role and responsibility imbalance, along with higher likihood of franchisees' opportunistic behaviors.
The principal objective of this study was to categorize service attributes on the basis of the asymmetric and non-linear relationship existing between service attributes and customer satisfaction. Researchers generally assume that service attribute performances and customer satisfaction are both symmetrical and linear. That is to say, improvements in attribute performance will inevitably result in increased customer satisfaction. However, this is not always the case. Certain attributes have been shown not to create satisfaction even when improved, and others do not create dissatisfaction even when their performance ratings become negative. Understanding this relationship is crucial not only to researchers, but also to service managers. Service managers can arrange their priorities with regard to which attributes must be improved or promoted first, in an environment of limited technical, financial, and human resources. Many studies into this asymmetric and non-linear relationship have recently been conducted, beginning with Herzberg's motivation-hygiene theory (1976) and the disconfirmation theory, which was eventually developed into Kano's model (1984). This study attempted to determine the impact level of service attributes on incidents of satisfaction or dissatisfaction. It used 30 service attributes generated by Park (2008) in the CIT research into family restaurants. The data were collected from 600 participants, 300 incidences of satisfaction and 300 incidents of dissatisfaction, via an online survey. The t-test was used to confirm the difference between the satisfaction group's and dissatisfaction group's attributes. 11 attributes were found to be significant at a level of p>0.05. This indicates that the 11 attributes exerted different impacts on satisfaction and dissatisfaction, which confirmed the asymmetric and non-linear relationship. 14 attributes were categorized into the core service, 1 attribute into the quality service, 7 attributes into the basic service, and 8 attributes into the neutral service. Strategic customer service management was recommended for the 'A' family restaurant as an example, on the basis of the asymmetric and non-linear relationship and the characteristics of the four service factors.

This paper presents an experimental investigation of asymmetric impact effects on hydroelastic responses. A 1:64 scaled segmented ship model with U-shape open cross-section backbone was newly designed to meet elastic similarity conditions of vertical, horizontal and torsional stiffness simultaneously. Different wave heading angles and wavelengths were adopted in regular wave test. In head wave condition, parametric rolling phenomena happened along with asymmetric slamming forces, the relationship between them was disclosed at first time. The impact forces on starboard and port sides showed alternating asymmetric periodic changes. In oblique wave condition, nonlinear springing and whipping responses were found. Since slamming phenomena occurred, high-frequency bending moments became an important part in total bending moments and whipping responses were found in small wavelength. The wavelength and head angle are varied to elucidate the relationship of springing/whipping loads and asymmetric impact. The distributions of peaks of horizontal and torsional loads show highly asymmetric property.
The fundamental endeavor of this study is to investigate the asymmetric relationship between bunker price and Baltic Dry-bulk Index (hereafter BDI). Previous investigations employ linear form based analysis between oil price and BDI but we develop nonlinear and asymmetric cointegration method, which is properly able to capture the decreasing and increasing periods differently. The empirical results show there is no relationships in linear model (e.g. Engle and Granger's methods). On the contrary, our estimate reveals there is significant long-run relationship with asymmetric framework, which implies the necessity of nonlinear and asymmetric consideration to the bunker price analysis.

The study aims to investigate the pattern of relationships such as symmetric or asymmetric, between exchange rate and foreign direct investment in Bangladesh by applying Autoregressive Distributed Lagged (ARDL) and nonlinear ARDL. In this study, we employed quarterly data for the period of 1974Q1 to 2016Q4. Data were collected and aggregated from various sources namely, Bangladesh Economic Review published by Ministry of Finance and statistical yearbook published by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics and an annual report published by Bangladesh Bank. The relationship between exchange rate and FDI inflows attract immense interest in the recent periods, especially for developing countries' perspective. The results of the study ascertain the long run relationship between FDI, exchange rate, monetary policy, and fiscal policy. Considering the asymmetric assumption, the findings from NARDL confirm the existence of a long-run asymmetric relationship in the empirical equation. In the long run, it is observed that positive change that is the appreciation of exchange rate against USD decrease FDI inflows and negative shocks results in grater inflows of FDI, however, the positive shocks produce higher intensity that negative shocks in Exchange rate. For directional causality, the coefficients of error correction term confirm long-run causality, in particular, bidirectional causality unveiled between FDI and exchange rate.

Thick plates produced by the rolling process are used as the basic elements of ship structures. In this paper, we present a setup model for controlling the asymmetric factors causing plate bending in the width direction during plate rolling. A series of three-dimensional finite element analyses is conducted to predict the relationship between various asymmetric factors and plate bending. The setup model is developed by performing regression on the relationship to produce linear equations with several nondimensional parameters. The setup model is verified with a pilot rolling test in which variations in thickness and temperature differences in the width direction exist. The results show that the bending curvatures predicted by the model are in fairly good agreement with the measured results for those asymmetric factors.
Data on 27 W UMa systems having a asymmetric light curve so called O'Conell effect have been collected. Investigated 27 W UMa systems were classified into 12 positive and 15 negative type according to the shape of its asymmetric light curve. A list of members of the group, their current observational statue, and their physical and evolutional relationship to asymmetric W UMa type binaries are discussed.
