  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the change of argumentation of middle school students when they participated in argument tasks with CASE(Cognitive acceleration through science education) programs. Students argumentations were divided into two categories; 'explanatory argumentation' and 'dialogic argumentation'. Several argumentation components were used in their argumentation. Among argumentation components, claim and ground took place more than half of argumentation components. The percentage of 'dialogic argumentation' was lower than the percentage of 'explanatory argumentation'. The percentage of 'dialogic argumentation' was getting higher during CASE intervention. CASE programs had more effect on symmetric group than asymmetric group, however it was unstable. In general, participation ratio in argumentation of the formal operational student was high and the ratio in argumentation of the transitional student was getting higher.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate an efficacy of in vitro differentiated human embryonic stem (hES, MB03) cells expressing Nurr1 in relief of symptomatic motor behavior of Parkinson's disease (PD) animal models MB03 was genetically modified to express Nurr1 protein and was induced to differentiate according to 2-/4+ protocol using retinoic acid and ascorbic acid. The differentiation-induced cells were selected for 10 to 20 days thereafter in N2 medium. Upon selection, cells expressing GFAP, TH, or NF200 were 38.8%, 11%, and 20.5%, respectively. in order to examine therapeutic effects of the differentiated cells in PD animal model, rats were unilaterally lesioned by administration of 6-kydroxydopamine HCI (6-OHDA) into medial forebrain region (MFB, AP -4.4 mm, ML 1.2 mm, DV 78 mm with incision bar set at -2.4 mm), as a reference to bregma and the surface of the skull. Confirmation of successful lesion by apomorphine-induced rotational behavior, differentiated cells were transplanted into the striatum (AP 1.0, ML 3.5, DV -5.0; AP 0.6, ML 2.5, DV -4.5). Improvements of asymmetric motor behavior by the transplantation were examined every two weeks after the surgery. In two weeks, numbers of rotation by the experimental rats were $-14.8 \pm 33.9%$ (P<0.05) of the number before transplantation, however, the ratio increased slightly to $13.6 \pm 56.3%$ in six weeks. In contrast, the ratio of sham-grafted animals ranged from 112.3+8.5% to 139.2+28.9% during the examination. Immunohistochemical studies further confirmed the presence, survival, migration, and expression of TH of the transplanted human cells.

  • By using DL-acetonitrile as enzyme inducer, 90 bacteria were isolated from a field soil. Among the isolated strains, the strain WJ-003 showed the highest activity for production of D-lactic acid from DL-lactonitrile, and was partially identified as Pseudomonas sp. The production condition of D-lactic acid from DL-lactonitrile using resting cells as an enzyme source was optimized as follows: the reaction mixture contained 10 mM of DL-lactonitrile, 20 g of wet cells in 11 of 20 mM potassium phosphate buffer (pH 7.0) and the reaction was carried out at $30^{\circ}C$. After 18 h of reaction, 0.843 g/l of D-lactic acid was produced which corresponded to a conversion ratio of 93.7% and an optical purity of 99.8%. Additionally, when 10 mM of DL-lactonitrile was added once more to the reaction mixture at 14 h, 1.64 g/1 of D-lactic acid was produced after 28 h. In this experiment, the conversion ratio was 91.1% and optical purity 99.8%.

  • To understand the coevolution of Brightest Cluster Galaxies (BCGs) and their host clusters, we conduct a case study on the BCGs in dynamically young and old clusters, Abell 1139 (A1139) and Abell 2589 (A2589). We analyze the pixel color-magnitude diagrams (pCMDs) using deep g- and r-band images, obtained from the CFHT observations. (1) While the overall shapes of the pCMDs are similar to those of typical early-type galaxies, the A2589-BCG tends to have redder mean pixel color and smaller pixel color deviation at given surface brightness than the A1139-BCG. (2) The mean pixel color distribution as a function of pixel surface brightness indicates that the A2589-BCG formed a larger central body by major dry mergers at an early epoch than the A1139-BCG, while they have grown commonly by subsequent minor mergers. (3) The spatial distributions of the pixels with deviated colors reveal that the A1139-BCG experienced considerable tidal events more recently than the A2589-BCG, whereas the A2589-BCG has an asymmetric compact core possibly resulting from major dry merger at an early epoch. (4) The A2589-BCG shows a very large faint-to-bright pixel number ratio compared to early-type non-BCGs, whereas the ratio for the A1139-BCG is not distinctively large. These results imply that the BCG in the dynamically older cluster (A2589) formed earlier and is relaxed better.

  • Herein, a theoretical method based on the catenary model Is applied to obtain the tension and drag forces acting on the trash curtain which is deployed at river for the prevention of floating debris inflow into the ocean. Under the assumption that fluid drag is perpendicular to the trash curtain, the tension and drag forces are uniform along the trash curtain. As a numerical model, the trash curtain is moored both symmetrically and asymmetrically with respect to the flow. The tension and drag forces on the trash curtain are investigated according to the change of Bap ratio and inclined angle of the trash curtain. Numerical results show that tension parameter is increased as the gap ratio is increased. It is found that tension parameter is reduced as the inclined angle is increased in the case of asymmetric deployment. The numerical model is applied to the specific problem for the trash curtain (200m) deployed at the Tancheon on the Han river. The maximum inflow velocity that anchor system can endure is 2m/sec.

  • A new ionized sputtering process was developed to fill small trench or via using additional ionizing mechanism of sputtered particles from 32cm $AlCu_x$(x=0.5%) cathode target with rotating magnet, then drawn toward substrate by small negative DC potential. The radial uniformity in RFI magnetron sputtering was studied by plasma diagnosis and appropriate RFI coil design to improve it. Optical emission intensities of excited species. $Ar^{\circ}, \;Ar^+;Al^+, \;Al^{\circ}$ are measured across the radial direction and showed close correlation with deposit's bottom to top thickness ratios in trenches and vias of submicron opening and 1.5 aspect ratio. After increase of the diameter of RF coil from 29 cm to 32 cm and improved the power leading feedthrough symmetry by removal of asymmetric single turn region, there was an increase of uniformity from 7.5% to 1.5% in bottom to top thickness ratio in 0.6 $\mu\textrm{m}$ vias.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to accurately analyze the radiographic characteristics of dentigerous cyst (DC) with multiplanar images of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods : Thirty eight radiographically and histopathologically proven cases of DCs were analyzed with panoramic radiograph and CBCT, retrospectively. The radiographic CT pattern, symmetry of radiolucency around the unerupted tooth crown, ratio of long length to short length, degree of cortical bone alternation, effects on adjacent tooth, and cyst size were analyzed. Relative frequencies of these radiographic features were evaluated. In order to compare the CBCT features of DC with those of odontogenic keratocyst (OKC), 9 cases of OKCs were analyzed with the same method radiographically. Results : DCs consisted of thirty unilocular cases (79.0%), seven lobulated cases (18.4%) and one multilocular case (2.6%). Eight were asymmetric (21.0%) and thirty were symmetric (79.0%). Maxillary DC showed rounder shape than mandibular DC (L/S ratio; maxilla 1.32, mandible 1.67). Alternations of lingual cortical bone (14 cases, 48.2%) were more frequent than those of buccal side (7 cases, 24.1%). CBCT images of DC showed definite root resorption and bucco-lingual tooth displacement. These findings were hardly observed on panoramic radiographs of DCs. Comparison of CBCT features of DC with those of OKC showed several different features. Conclusions : CBCT images of DC showed various characteristic radiographic features. Therefore, CBCT can be helpful for the diagnosis of DC radiographically.

  • The structural and biomechanical characteristics of pelvic and foot are important factors of back pain, but it is still complicated to clearly explain the relationship among them. The purpose of this study was to find out the characteristic of pelvic parameters and biomechanics of foot in patients with low back pain. Thirty-three female subjects with chronic low back pain were enrolled and ODI and VAS score were measured for back pain index. All subjects were taken the X-ray examination for major pelvic parameters and foot scan analysis for foot pressure, gait angle, fore-foot/rear-foot peak pressure ratio and asymmetric index. Statistical analysis were performed to examine the inter-relation between the measurement. As a result, it was shown the positive interrelation between back pain and F/R ratio, but others were not shown the relationship related to low back pain. And there were correlations between the lumbo-pelvic structure and biomechanics of foot in some aspects, but the causal relationship between them are still indefinable. In order to get more information about structures and biomechanics related to low back pain, subsequent researches are needed.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the results of a nationwide academic evaluation of middle schools and high schools on apartment prices in Ulsan City by using a hedonic pricing model. The results of the middle school and high school achievement test, the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) score for high school, the national united evaluation score, and the number of successful applicants to prestigious universities have a significant effect on the apartment price formation with a positive relationship. In addition, different kinds of academic evaluation score have asymmetric effects on apartment price determination. The results of the high school achievement evaluation are more important than the results of the middle school achievement evaluation in the apartment price determination. Among the achievement evaluation results, the ratio of the students with the higher education level is more important than the ratio of the students with the lower basic education level. Furthermore, the CSAT score for Natural Sciences is more important than the CSAT score for the Humanities course.

  • The main objective of this paper is to study the effect of porosity on the buckling behavior of thick functionally graded sandwich plate resting on various boundary conditions under different in-plane loads. The formulation is made for a newly developed sandwich plate using a functional gradient material based on a modified power law function of symmetric and asymmetric configuration. Four different porosity distribution are considered and varied in accordance with material propriety variation in the thickness direction of the face sheets of sandwich plate, metal foam also is considered in this study on the second model of sandwich which containing metal foam core and FGM face sheets. New quasi-3D high shear deformation theory is used here for this investigate; the present kinematic model introduces only six variables with stretching effect by adopting a new indeterminate integral variable in the displacement field. The stability equations are obtained by Hamilton's principle then solved by generalized solution. The effect of Pasternak and Winkler elastic foundations also including here. the present model validated with those found in the open literature, then the impact of different parameters: porosities index, foam cells distribution, boundary conditions, elastic foundation, power law index, ratio aspect, side-to-thickness ratio and different in-plane axial loads on the variation of the buckling behavior are demonstrated.
