  • To lay a solid basis for prosperity and competitiveness, countries should achieve balance in the three fundamental aspects: energy availability, energy affordability and ecological balance. Nuclear energy has attracted international interest as one of the most crucial environmental quality strategies. The objective of this study is to analyze the non-linear link between nuclear energy and environmental quality in the top-10 nuclear energy consumer countries (USA, China, Russia, France, Canada, Spain, Sweden, South Korea, Ukraine, and Germany). Earlier research employed panel data methodologies to examine the linkage between nuclear energy and the environment, despite the fact that many nations did not independently demonstrate such a correlation. On the alternative, this study uses a novel approach known as 'Quantile-on-Quantile,' which allows for the analysis of time-series dependence in each country by giving universal yet country-specific insights into the relationship between the variables. Estimates show that the consumption of nuclear energy improves environmental quality by lowering ecological footprint in the majority of the nations studied at certain quantiles of data. Moreover, the data demonstrate that the degree of asymmetries between our variables changes by nation, emphasizing the importance of policymakers exercising caution when adopting nuclear energy and environmental quality regulations.

  • The olivine structured $LiFe_{0.9}Mn_{0.1}PO_4$ material was prepared by solid state method, and was analyzed by x-ray diffractometer (XRD), superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID) and Mossbauer spectroscopy. The crystal structure of $LiFe_{0.9}Mn_{0.1}PO_4$ was determined to be orthorhombic (space group: Pnma) by Rietveld refinement method. The value of N$\acute{e}$el temperature ($T_N$) for $LiFe_{0.9}Mn_{0.1}PO_4$ was determined 50 K. The temperature dependence of the magnetization curves showed magnetic phase transition from paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic at $T_N$ by SQUID measurement. M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra of $LiFe_{0.9}Mn_{0.1}PO_4$ showed 2 absorption lines at temperatures above $T_N$ and showed asymmetric 8 absorption lines at temperatures below $T_N$. These spectra occurred due to the magnetic dipole and electric quardrupole interaction caused by strong crystalline field at asymmetric $FeO_6$ octahedral sites.

  • The tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) of a ramp-edge type junction has been studied. The samples with a structure of NiO(60)/Co(10)/NiO(60)/Si$_3$N$_4$(2-6)/NiFe(10) (nm) were prepared by the sputtering and etched by the electron cyclotron (ECR) argon ion milling. Nonlinear I-V characteristics was obtained from a ramp-type tunneling junctions having the dominant difference between zero and +90 Oe perpendicular to the junction edge line. The voltage dependence of TMR was stable up to a bias volt of $\pm$10 V with a TMR ratio of about -10%, which may be very peculiar magnetic tunneling properties with asymmetric tunneling process between wedge Co pinned layer and NiFe free layer.

  • We have compared the geoeffective parameters of halo coronal mass ejections (CMEs) to predict geomagnetic storms. For this we consider 50 front-side full halo CMEs whose asymmetric cone model parameters and earthward direction parameter were available. For each CME we use its projected velocity (Vp), radial velocity (Vr), angle between cone axis and sky plane (${\gamma}$) from the cone model, earthward direction parameter (D), source longitude (L), and magnetic field orientation (M) of the CME source region. We make a simple and multiple linear regression analysis to find out the relationship between CME parameters and Dst index. Major results are as follows. (1) $Vr{\times}{\gamma}$ has a higher correlation coefficient (cc = 0.70) with the Dst index than the others. When we make a multiple regression of Dst and two parameters ($Vr{\times}{\gamma}$, D), the correlation coefficient increases from 0.70 to 0.77. (2) Correlation coefficients between Dst index and $Vr{\times}{\gamma}$ have different values depending on M and L. (3) Super geomagnetic storms (Dst ${\leq}$ -200 nT) only appear in the western and southward events. Our results demonstrate that not only the cone model parameters together with the earthward direction parameter improve the relationship between CME parameters and Dst index but also the source longitude and its magnetic field orientation play a significant role in predicting geomagnetic storms.

  • A simplified approach of assessing torsionally balanced (TB) and torsionally unbalanced (TU) low-medium rise buildings of up to 30 m in height is presented in this paper for regions of low-to-moderate seismicity. The Generalised Force Method of Analysis for TB buildings which is illustrated in the early part of the paper involves calculation of the deflection profile of the building in a 2D analysis in order that a capacity diagram can be constructed to intercept with the acceleration-displacement response spectrum diagram representing seismic actions. This approach of calculation on the planar model of a building which involves applying lateral forces to the building (waiving away the need of a dynamic analysis and yet obtaining similar results) has been adapted for determining the deflection behaviour of a TU building in the later part of the paper. Another key original contribution to knowledge is taking into account the strong dependence of the torsional response behaviour of the building on the periodic properties of the applied excitations in relation to the natural periods of vibration of the building. Many of the trends presented are not reflected in provisions of major codes of practices for the seismic design of buildings. The deflection behaviour of the building in response to displacement controlled (DC) excitations is in stark contrast to behaviour in acceleration controlled (AC), or velocity controlled (VC), conditions, and is much easier to generalise. Although DC conditions are rare with buildings not exceeding 30 m in height displacement estimates based on such conditions can be taken as upper bound estimates in order that a conservative prediction of the displacement profile at the edge of a TU building can be obtained conveniently by the use of a constant amplification factor to scale results from planar analysis.

  • Aromatic polyetherimide membranes were prepared by dry/wet phase inversion method and investigated regarding the pervaporation characteristic of water-alcohol mixtures by using the permselective property of imide group and the structure modification of skin layer of the membrane. The membrane selectivity increased with the reaction time of surface-modification, to some extent, and the density of top layer tends to increases with increasing the reaction time. In the case of dense membrane, the separation factor was 160 and 2000 for 90wt% ethanol mixture and 90wt% isopropanol solution, respectively, which implies that aromatic polyetherimide has a high permselectivity. The temperature dependence of permeation flux seems to follow an Arrhenius type at the temperature range of ($40^{\circ}C-70^{\circ}C$).

  • [ $AIFeO_3$ ]has been studied by x-ray diffraction (XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer, Mossbauer spectroscopy. The crystal structure is found to orthorhombic with the lattice parameters being $a_0=4.983\;{\AA},\;b_0=8.554\;{\AA},\;c_0=9.239\;{\AA}$, Magnetic hysteresis curve for $AIFeO_3$ showed weakly ferromagnetic phase at room temperature and a asymmetric shape dependent on the direction of applied field at low temperature. The Curie temperature determined by the temperature dependence of magnetization is 250 K. Mossbauer spectra of $AIFeO_3$ have been taken from 4.2 K to 295 K. Isomer shift at room temperature are found to be $0.11\~0.32\;mm/s$, which is consistent with ferric state. The absorption lines widths become broader with increasing temperature, which is attributed to the Fe ions distribution of each cation site and anisotropy energy difference of each sublattice.

  • A new method, the external resistance method (ERM method), is proposed for accurate extraction of the gate bias-dependent effective channel carrier mobility (${\mu}_{eff}$) and separated parasitic source/drain resistances ($R_S$ and $R_D$) of n-channel MOSFET's. The proposed ERM method is applied to n-channel LDD MOSFETs with two different gate lengths ($W_m/L_m=30{\mu}m/0.6{\mu}m,\;30{\mu}m/1{\mu}m$) in the linear mode of current-voltage characteristics ($I_D-V_{GS},\;V_{DS}$). We also considered gate voltage dependence of separated $R_2$ and $R_D$ in the accurate modeling and extraction of effective channel carrier mobility. Good agreement of experimental data is observed in submicron n-channel LDD MOSFETs. Combining with capacitance-voltage characteristics, the ERM method is expected to be very useful for accurate and efficient extraction of ${\mu}_{eff},\;R_D,\;R_S$, and other characteristic parameters in both symmetric and asymmetric structure MOSFET's in which parasitic resistances are critical to the improvement of high speed performance and reliability.

  • Cu$_{0.1}$Fe$_{0.9}$Cr$_2$S$_4$ has been studied with Mossbauer spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and magnetoresistance (MR) measurement. The crystal structure was determined to be a cubic spinel with lattice parameter a$_{0}$=9.9880 $\AA$. The MR measurements show a semiconductor behavior below 110 K and metal behaved above 100 K. The temperature dependence of magnetization of Cu$_{0.1}$Fe$_{0.9}$Cr$_2$S$_4$ was reported. In addition to a large irreversibility between the zero-field-cooling (ZFC) and the field-cooling (FC) magnetization at applied field H=100 Oe, a cusp-like anomaly was observed in both the FC and ZFC curves. It shifted toward the lower temperature region with increasing magnetic field, and then showed convex type maximum at 110 K, under the applied field of 5 kOe. The Mossbauer spectra were measured from 15 K to room temperature. The asymmetric line broadening was observed for the sample Cu$_{0.1}$Fe$_{0.9}$Cr$_2$S$_4$, and it was considered to be dynamic Jahn-Teller relaxation. The charge state of Fe ions was ferrous in character. The unusual reduction of magnetic hyperfine field below 110 K was interpreted in terms of cancellation effect between the mutually opposite orbital current field (H$_{L}$) and Fermi contact field (H$_{C}$).

  • Quantum wells infrared photodetectors (QWIPs) have been used to detect infrared radiations through the principle based on the localized stated in quantum wells (QWs) [1]. The mature III-V compound semiconductor technology used to fabricate these devices results in much lower costs, larger array sizes, higher pixel operability, and better uniformity than those achievable with competing technologies such as HgCdTe. Especially, GaAs/AlGaAs QWIPs have been extensively used for large focal plane arrays (FPAs) of infrared imaging system. However, the research efforts for increasing sensitivity and operating temperature of the QWIPs still have pursued. The modification of heterostructures [2] and the various fabrications for preventing polarization selection rule [3] were suggested. In order to enhance optical performances of the QWIPs, double barrier quantum well (DBQW) structures will be introduced as the absorption layers for the suggested QWIPs. The DBWQ structure is an adequate solution for photodetectors working in the mid-wavelength infrared (MWIR) region and broadens the responsivity spectrum [4]. In this study, InGaAs/GaAs/AlGaAs double barrier quantum well infrared photodetectors (DB-QWIPs) are successfully fabricated and characterized. The heterostructures of the InGaAs/GaAs/AlGaAs DB-QWIPs are grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system. Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy is used to examine the heterostructures of the InGaAs/GaAs/AlGaAs DB-QWIP. The mesa-type DB-QWIPs (Area : $2mm{\times}2mm$) are fabricated by conventional optical lithography and wet etching process and Ni/Ge/Au ohmic contacts were evaporated onto the top and bottom layers. The dark current are measured at different temperatures and the temperature and applied bias dependence of the intersubband photocurrents are studied by using Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) system equipped with cryostat. The photovoltaic behavior of the DB-QWIPs can be observed up to 120 K due to the generated built-in electric field caused from the asymmetric heterostructures of the DB-QWIPs. The fabricated DB-QWIPs exhibit spectral photoresponses at wavelengths range from 3 to $7{\mu}m$. Grating structure formed on the window surface of the DB-QWIP will induce the enhancement of optical responses.
