Batch production of (S)-phenyl oxirane was investigated using epoxide hydrolase activity of Rhodosporidium toruloides SJ-4. Effect of reaction condition of asymmetric biohydrolysis of racemic phenyl oxirane was analyzed and optimized by response surface methodology. The optimal conditions of pH, temperature and DMSO cosolvent ratio were 7.4, $34^P\circ}C$, and 2.3%(v/v), respectively. The final yield was enhanced up to 67%, and reaction times required to reach 99% ee (enatiomeric excess) decreased down to 50% by response surface methodology Enantiopure (S)-phenyl oxirane with 100% enantiopurity and 24% yield (theoretical yield = 50%) was obtained from racemic substrate.

In the case of a circular shaft, it is expected that asymmetric loads should apply on the surface rather than symmetric loads due to geographical factors and the non-homogeneity of the jointed rock masses. In this study, discontinuous numerical analysis was carried in order to analyze the characteristics of asymmetric load distribution on the wall of the circular shaft due to anisotropy caused by heterogeneity of rock masses affected by the discontinuities like as a Joint. And it was also analyzed that the effect of the mechanical properties varied with the rock mass rating and horizontal stress with depth had influence in the asymmetric load on the wall of the shaft. In the case of considering the effect of the joint as variable, asymmetric load ratio $(R_p)$, which was defined as the ratio of the load subtracted minimum from maximum to minimum, was below 25% in the hard rock. As regarding the variation of the rock mass rating with depth as variable, the value of $R_p$ was below than 25% in the hard rock, and the value between 30% and 40% in the soft rock. On the other hand, the $R_p$ of fractures rock was between $45{\sim}50%$ which value was much higher than that in better rock mass rating.

This paper analyzed the phenomenon of drain induced barrier lowering(DIBL) for the ratio of channel length vs. thickness of asymmetric double gate(DG) MOSFET. DIBL, the important secondary effect, is occurred for short channel MOSFET in which drain voltage influences on potential barrier height of source, and significantly affects on transistor characteristics such as threshold voltage movement. The series potential distribution is derived from Poisson's equation to analyze DIBL, and threshold voltage is defined by top gate voltage of asymmetric DGMOSFET in case the off current is 10-7 A/m. Since asymmetric DGMOSFET has the advantage that channel length and channel thickness can significantly minimize, and short channel effects reduce, DIBL is investigated for the ratio of channel length vs. thickness in this study. As a results, DIBL is greatly influenced by the ratio of channel length vs. thickness. We also know DIBL is greatly changed for bottom gate voltage, top/bottom gate oxide thickness and channel doping concentration.
Asymmetric polyetherimide membrane were prepared by phase inversion method, and the effects of NaOH concentration and reaction time on the morphology change of the polyetherimide membranes were studied. The morphology of skin layers varied from dense structure to sphere structure with increasing concentration of modification solution. The thickness of dense layer increased with increasing reaction time. However, when either the concentration of modifying solution was very high or the reaction time was very long, the dense layers of the asymmetric membrane were disappeared. From these results, it was found that the surface morphology of the asymmetric polyetherimide membranes depended strongly on the modification conditions such as concentration of modification solution and reaction time. These results might be explained by the hydrolysis reaction of polyetherimide into polyamic acid by the NaOH solution.

The addition of a carbanion to ${\yen}{\acute{a}}{\yen}{\hat{a}}$-unsaturated carbonyl compounds is of importance in the C-C bond formation reactions for modern pharmaceuticals and organic synthesis. Recently, heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis became more attractive area of research because of the easy recovery and separation of the catalyst from the reaction system. Most of synthetic methods for heterogeneous catalysts were grafting or immobilization of homogeneous catalyst onto the solid supports. Trans-1,2-Diaminocyclohexane(DACH) and L-proline ligands have been enormously used as chiral ligands in several catalytic transformation under homogenous conditions. Our group prepared l-proline functionalized mesoporous silica was synthesized under acidic condition using a poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) triblock copolymer template (EO20PO70EO20, Pluronic P-123, BASF). Furthermore, we successfully directly synthesized trans-1,2 diaminocyclohexane functionalized mesoporous silica by using microwave method. The direct functionalization of chiral ligand into the framework of mesoporous materials is expected to be useful for the heterogeneous asymmetric catalysis. So, we adopt the direct synthesis of chiral ligand functionalized mesoporous silica by using thermal and microwave irradiation. Then, chiral ligand functionalized mesoporous silicas were applied to enantioselective asymmetric catalytic reactions.
Purpose: Purpose: The usability of a mathematical model modified for analysis of the static stability of an asymmetric tractor-harvester system was investigated. Method: The modified asynchronous mathematical model was validated through empirical experiments, and the effects of movements of the center of gravity (CG) coordinates on the stability against lateral overturning were analyzed through simulations. Results: Changes in the lateral overturning angle of the system were investigated when the coordinates of the CG of the system were moved within the variable range. The errors between simulation results and empirical experiments were compared, and the results were -4.7% at the left side overturning and -0.1% at the right side overturning. The asymmetric system was characterized in such a way that the right side overturning had an increase in overturning angle in the (+) variable range, while it had a decrease in overturning angle in the (-) variable range. In addition, the left side overturning showed an opposite result to that of the right side. At the declination angle (296<${\gamma}$<76), the right side overturning had an increase in the maximum overturning angle of 3.6%, in the minimum overturning angle of 20.3%, and in the mean overturning angle of 15.9%. Furthermore, at the declination angle (284<${\gamma}$<64), the left side overturning had a decrease in the maximum overturning angle of 29.2%, in the minimum overturning angle of 44%, and in a mean overturning angle of 39.7%. Conclusion: The modified mathematical model was useful for predicting the overturning angle of the asymmetric tractor-harvester system, and verified that a movement of the CG coordinates had a critical effect on its stability. In particular, the left side overturning was the most vulnerable to stability, regardless of the direction of declination angle.
Asymmetric polyetherimide membranes were prepared by phase inversion method. In the modification of the skin layers of polyetherimide membranes, the effects of NaOH concentration on the morphology and pervaporation separation of water-isopropanol mixtures were investigated. With increasing concentration of NaOH solution, polyamicacid structure was formed by the hydrolysis of imide group of polyetherimide, and the thickness of dense layer of the asymmetric membrane increased. In the pervaporation separation of water-isopropanol mixtures the overall permeation rate decreased and the separation factor increased with increasing concentration of NaOH solution. However, when the concentration of NaOH solution was very high, the permeation rate increased but separation factor decreased. From these results, it was found that the permeation behaviors of asymmetric polyetherimide membranes depended upon the concentration of NaOH solution. These modified membranes showed that both the permeation rate and separation factor increased as the operating temperature increased.

As is pointed out by Gourieroux (1997), the volatility effects in financial time series vary according to the signs of the return rates and therefore asymmetric Threshold-GARCH (TGARCH, henceforth) processes are natural extensions of the standard GARCH toward asymmetric volatility modeling. For preliminary detection of asymmetry in volatility, we suggest graphs of squared-log-returns for various financial time series including KOSPI, KOSDAQ and won-Euro exchange rate. Next, asymmetric TGARCH(1,1) model fits are provided in comparisons with standard GARCH(1.1) models.
Long-haul transmission of multiple transmission signals, such as wavelength division multiplexed (WDM), has became possible, because the signal distortion caused by chromatic dispersion and nonlinearity can be compensated by applying dispersion management, optical phase conjugation and combination of the two methods into the transmission link. The biggest obstacle to applying optical phase conjugation to an optical link is that the optical phase conjugator (OPC) must be located only in the middle of the entire transmission line. This paper shows that the location constraints of OPC can be overcome through the application of an asymmetric dispersion map. The location of the OPC considered in this paper exists between the 8th and 9th fiber spans out of a total of 48 fiber spans. Additionally, the dispersion map has an asymmetric cumulative dispersion profile with respect to the OPC. As a result of the simulation, it was confirmed that the distortion compensation effect of the WDM channel can be increased compared to the link to which the traditional dispersion map is applied, depending on the overall shape of the cumulative dispersion profile distribution of the proposed asymmetric dispersion map and the selection of the profile slope.

A new treatment for coronary artery occlusive disease is being developed in which a shunt or conduit is placed directly connecting the left ventricle with the diseased artery at a point distal to the obstruction. To aid in assessing and optimizing its benefit, a computational model of the cardiovascular system was developed and used to explore various design conditions. Simulation results indicate that in complete LAD occlusion, flow can be returned to approximately 65% of normal if the conduit resistance is equal for forward and reverse flow, increasing to 80% in the limit in which backflow resistance is infinite. Increases in flow rate produced by asymmetric flow resistance are considerably enhanced in the case of a partial LAD obstruction since the primary effect of resistance asymmetry is to prevent leakage back into the ventricle("steal") during diastole. Increased arterial compliance has little effect on net flow with a symmetric shunt, but leads to considerable augmentation when the resistance is asymmetric. These results suggest that an LV-LAD conduit will be beneficial when stenosis resistance(Rst) > 27 PRU if resistance is symmetric.
