Study on the Analysis of Corneal Variation by Refractive Error (굴절이상에 의한 각막 변화도 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this Study investigated corneal power, corneal astigmatism and corneal axis according to spherical equivalent of refractive error. We measured spherical equivalent, corneal power and corneal astigmatism in 100 subjects from January 2014 to July 2014. Measured spherical equivalent of refractive error were $-3.01{\pm}3.79D$, corneal power of $43.79{\pm}1.60D$ and corneal astigmatism of $-1.17{\pm}0.79D$ respectively. Prevalence of spherical equivalent of refractive error were as follows : myopes (61%), emmetropes (22%), hyperopes(17%). Corneal astigmatism of refractive error greater than +0.75D was 63% and prevalence of corneal astigmatism were as follows : with-the-rlue astigmatism (84.13%), against-the-rule astigmatism(9.52%) respectively. Corneal power by spherical equivalent increased from hyperopia to myopia. Between spherical equivalent of refractive error and the mean corneal power was significant correlation(r=-0.25, p=0.01). A correlation were found between corneal power and spherical equivalent of refractive error in adults. They have the highest distribution of prevalence myopia among the refractive error. When the refractive error was increased, we found that corneal power was steeper. It is recognized that this can be refractive error factor and correct visual function is considered.

The Effect of the Shift of Incident Beam on the Astigmatism (입사광의 편위가 난시안에 미치는 영향)

  • We investigate the variation in the shape of confusion circle as the real amplitude distribution of incident beam in pupil area is shifted and the effect of the shift of incident beam on the astigmatism for eye. The shifted magnitudes of Incident beam are 0.0, 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75 and the shifted direction of incident beam ${\pi}/2$. We also consider the optical system having the astigmatism which are $0.0{\lambda}$, $0.25{\lambda}$, $0.5{\lambda}$ and $0.75{\lambda}$. As the shifted magnitude of the real amplitude distribution of incident beam increases, the shape of confusion circle on the image surface transfers from the rotational symmetry to the asymmetry like ellipse and the length of the major axis for confusion circle on the Image surface increases. We know from results in this paper that the shift of the incident beam in pupil area compensates the effect of astigmatism and the real amplitude distribution of incident beam in pupil area is shifted to minimize the effect of astigmatism for eye.

A Study of Accommodative Response on Emmetropia (정시안의 조절반응량에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this research was to measurement real accmmnodative response amount of emmetropia using both eyes open-view auto-refractometer. We classified 377(male 146, female 231)eyes showing good naked vision at least 1.0, with a spherical equivalent refraction of under ${\pm}0.50D$ and cylindercal refraction of under -0.75D, from 10 to 59(mean $25.8{\pm}12.4$) years into 5 groups with 10 year interval and analyzed change of the near astigmatism and accommodative response amount to distinction of age. Age comparison, total mean 1.47D, 10 years age group 1.63D, 20 years age group 1.57D, 30 years age group 1.71D, 40 years age group 0.97D, and 50 years age group 0.05D. It was no difference between 10 to 30 years age group, But it showed the decre8.se which is remarkable from above 40 years age group and it does not almost response from above 50 years age group. Sexual difference, the man appeared some highly in male(mean $26.4{\pm}12.3$ years) 1.56D m female(mean $26.4{\pm}12.3$) 1.43D. Near-astigmatism power change, mean +0.12D, 10 years age group +0.06D, 20 years age group +0.16D, 30 years age group +0.09D, 40 years age group +0.05D, and 50 years age group +0,06D. No significant difference of astigmatism powers among the an groups, but from all years age group the astigmatism power appeared more highly far-astigmatism than near-astigmatism. Near-astigmatism axis change in the far-astigmatism changes at under ${\pm}10^{\circ}$ 103 eyes, above ${\pm}10^{\circ}$ rotation clockwise direction 108 eyes, above ${\pm}10^{\circ}$ rotation counter-clockwise direction 101 eyes. It was analyzed near-astigmatism axis change.

The Evaluation of Reliability for Exam Distance of Visual Acuity (시력검사거리에 따른 원거리 시력검사 신뢰성 평가)

  • Purpose: We aimed to evaluate reliability of eye exam for visual acuity as a function of distance. Methods: There were 39 patients (78 eyes) who had visual acuity 1.0 or more at 5 meters. We measured refractive power of patients at each distances, 5 meters, 4 meters and 3 meters. Automatic chart (LCD-700, Hyeseong Optic. Co., Korea) used for visual acuity, skiascope (Beta 200, Heine, Germany) and auto refractometer (RK-5, Canon, Japan) used as for objective refraction. Accommodation was examined by minus lens addition methods, and Accommodative lag was examined by grid chart for reading distance. Results: Being compared to 3 meter test, Amount of corrected spherical refractive power decreased by $0.10{\pm}0.38$ D, astigmatism decreased by $0.05{\pm}0.10$ D, and axis of astigmatism rotated toward to temporal by $2.64{\pm}18.75$ degrees for right eyes, by $11.43{\pm}48.55$ degrees for left eyes in case of 5 meter test. Changes of corrected refraction and astigmatism were slightly correlated (r=-0.31, r=-0.29). Conclusions: Because corrected refraction power and amount of astigmatism decreased and axis of astigmatism tends to turn the temporal direction according to exam distance, examination distance of visual acuity should improved as to 5 meters.

Analysis of Addition Power for New Wearer of Progressive Addition Lenses (누진렌즈 안경 처음 착용자의 가입도 분석)

  • Purpose: To analyse the addition power of new wearer of progressive addition lenses. Methods: Data of 636 subjects who have been prescribed progressive addition lenses as the first time were used for analyse. The range of age for was between 41~78 years old and they visited the optical practice in Gwangju metropolitan city from 2001 to 2013Date of refractive state, gender and age were analysed. Results: The difference of addition by gender was 1.71 D in male and 1.67 D in women. The difference of addition by refractive error was 1.67 D in emmetropic patients and 1.74 D in myopic patients, 1.90 D in hyperopic patients. The difference of addition by age was1.26 D in 41~44 years old sge group, 1.48 D in 45~49 years old age group,1.72 D in 50~54 years old age group 1.84 D in 55~59 years old age group, 2.10 D in 60~64 years old age group and 2.43 D in over 65 years old age group. The difference of addition by diopter in myopic patients was 1.58 D in low myopic patients and 1.48 D in middle myopic patients, 1.67 D in high myopic patients. The difference of addition by axis of astigmatism was 1.80 D in with-the-rule astigmatism, 1.64 D in against-the-rule astigmatism and 1.65 D in oblique astigmatism. Conclusions: The Addition power of progressive lenses were different according to the types of refractive error, astigmatism axis and age.

  • To have a fine understand the refractive error eye of Korean adult male, This study was researched visual acuity test using objuctive and subjective methods. The results are as follows: 1. The eye types were 93.3% positive for myopia, 5.4% for emmetropia, and 1.7 forhyperopia, respectively. 2. The refractive error eye was positive for compound myoptic astigmatism for a percntage of 62.6%, simple myopia(32.4%), simple myoptic astigmatism(1.6%), simple hyperopia(l.4%) simple hyperopia astigmatism(0.5%), and mixed astigmatism(1.6%). 3.   • To investigate the visual acuity of the primary school children. the visual acuity test wan performed the object and subject method. The results were follows. 1. The eye types were 94.8% positive for myopia, 1.2% for emmetropia and 4.0% hyperopia, respectively. 2. The abnormal refraction eyes were 71.3% positive for simple myopia, 17.9% for myopic compound astigmatism, 6.9% for myopic simple astigmatism, and 2.5% for simple hyperopia, 0.6%for hyperopic compound astigmatism, 0.8%for hyperopic simple astigmatism, respectively. 3. Optical Performance Measurement of the MATS Satellite

  • The MATS (Mesosphere Airglow/Aerosol Tomography Spectroscopy) satellite is the next Swedish science microsatellite. We report optical performance test results of the limb telescope, which is the major payload. This telescope is designed with "linear astigmatism-free" (LAF) off-axis optical system in order to have high optical performance across the wide field of view. We measured Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) and Encircled Energy Diameter (EED) of the limb telescope. Full field imaging tests show expected results without linear astigmatism across the full field of view ($5.67^{\circ}{\times}0.91^{\circ}$). Since the amount of stray light is from the earth and the sun, we also simulated and measured the stray light in the field image.

Expectation of Astigmatism by Spherical Equivalent Visual Acuity (등가구면 시력으로부터 난시량의 예측)

  • Purpose: This study was tried whether expectation of astigmatism from spherical equivalent visual acuity was possible. Methods: For 54 men and women (108 eyes) corrected to emmetropia, average age of 23.3, changes of visual acuity (5m) were measured with an increasing the powers at every ${\pm}$0.25D when the (-) axis of cross cylinder is $180^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, and $45^{\circ}$, respectively. Results: As the power of cross cylinder was increased, visual acuity was decreased. When the powers of cross cylinder were ${\pm}$2.50D ($180^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$) and ${\pm}$2.25D ($45^{\circ}$), visual acuity was 0.05 which is the minimum measurement possible. Conclusions: The diagram on astigmatism dealing with each spherical equivalent visual acuity was able to tabulate.

The Study of Eye Re fraction State on Old Age in Je-ju islands (제주도 지역 노인의 굴절이상에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide the accurate information on improvement of visual life by examining old age's eye refraction state and investigating distribution of ametropia in old age. The test was performed the visual acuity test by object and subject methods to over 60 years of age. The results were as follows: 1. As the result to investigate the inconvenience degree of visual life, the subjects appealed 81% for very inconvenience and 14% for a little inconvenience. 5% of them didn't feel any inconvenience in visual life. 2. The eye types were 1.7% for emmetropia, 10% for myopia, 74.7% for hyperopia, and 13.6% mixed astigmatism, respectively. 3. The axis of astigmatisms were 65% positive for indirect astigmatism, 8% for direct astigmatism, and 27% for oblique astigmatism, respectively.
