  • The importance of light and stress as factors in growth has not previously been clearly delineated. As the result of using experimental environments on growth rate of incisors in 24 young rats with body weight ranging 58 Gm to 62 Gm., the author obtained following conclusions. 1) The eruption rate of normal rats incisors was 0.421mm in upper incisors and 0.592mm in lower incisors per a day respectively. 2) In light environment, growth rate of incisors in rats and body weights were found to increase more rapidly during the 8-week experimental period in comparison with any environments. 3) In stress environment, growth rate of incisors in rats and body weight were found to decrease in comparison with amy environments during the 8-week experimental period.

  • The objectives of this study were to relate concentrations of plasma urea nitrogen(PUN) to conception rate in dairy cows. the relationship between PUN concentration and time postcalving was examined for 11 individual cows. Mean concentration of PUN rose for serveral weeks after calving and then was stable from 7 week. As PUN increased, the rate of conception decreased. Cows with PUN<15 and 15∼19.9mg/dl had the likelihood ratios of conception of 1.33 and 1.67. As PUN increased 20∼22.9 and 23mg/dl, the likelihood ratios decreased to 1.00 and 0.90. Thus, low PUN had a favorable association with conception, whereas high PUN had a negative association with conception.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of coating pigments on the printability by investigating the pore structure of casting layer such as the number, size and distribution of pores and the pore rate. The coating structure was mainly determined by the interaction between pigment and binder. It means that the structure of pores was chiefly affected by the shape and size distribution of pigments and their packing rate. The physical properties of pore have close relationships with ink set-off, the speed of ink penetration and printing gloss. The results suggested that the rate and number of pores were greatly affected by the particle size distribution and shape of pigments. The rate of pore increased with the reduction of particle size distribution of pigments. Calcite was effective to improve greatly the printability of coated paper.

  • The dried sea tangle added for soup prepatation to improved the taste in Korean and Japaness for long time. Attempts were made to develop the best procedures for extraction and removal of alginate by ultrafiltration and diafiltration. The summerized results of this study are as follows: 1) For hot water extraction in temperature range of 60~100$^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours, the higher temperature resulted higher yields in solids and protein. 2) Optimum sea tangle hot water extraction condition were 60~65$^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour which was cheap operating cost and high yield of good taste components. 3) The membrane flux was more higher GR 51 PP. and increase of flow rate permeate flow rate was accordingly increased. but limiting flow volume was 3.7 l/min. 4) It was found that ultration was relatively of higher recovery rate, solid and taste components, and low rejection coefficient rate than diafiltration.

  • When Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network(BISDN) becomes commercially available In public network, conventional Local Area Network(LAN)s will still be in use. The first wide spread application for B-ISDN will be the interconnection of LANs. The equipment providing the connection between the LAN and the BISDN will be given the general name Inter Working Unit(IWU). We addresses the congestion problem of many interworking issues. In this paper, Our study is concentrated on applying connectionless network protocol for interworking. We suggest a rate control method in the network layer to prevent a buffer overflow in the IWU. Since this rate control method can be applied to prevent buffer overflow in a congested IWU, We investigate the use of rate control to solve congestion problems of IWU and parallize network layer with rate control to lessen the congestion problem in IWU.

  • The 800 extracted permanent teeth of first and second premolar were observed and obtained the following results: Those teeth were extracted from the population of dentistless rural area. The cause of extraction of those teeth was only the dental caries. It was performed by the free dental service team from 1966 to 1973. The findings were as follows: 1. The most incidence of caries occurrence was on the distal surface and the least was mesial side occlusal surface. 2. The average rate of decayed surface was higher in the second premolar group than the first permolar. 3. The average rate of decayed surface was higher in the teeth of mandible than maxilla. 4. The average rate of decayed surface was higher in female than male. 5. The average rate of decayed surface per tooth was 3.05±1.83.

The chemical components of Korean native green tea which determined are water(2.2%), water extract(32.7%), vitamin C(480%), caffeine(2.6%), tannin(32.7%) and amino acid of water soluble content 5.8%. Effect on blood pressure in administration 100mg/kg, 300mg/kg, 500mg/kg of extract of green tea, the mean depressor response is 44.8$\pm$3.3mmHg, 60.5$\pm$3.6mmHg, and 65.0$\pm$3.3mmHg in normal cats. Effect on heart rate in administration 100mg/kg, 300mg/kg of extract of Korean native green tea, the mean decreased heart rate is 2.8$\pm$4.5 beats/min, 15.2$\pm$6.4beats/min and 19.1$\pm$4.0 beats/min.

  • A method for mapping quantitative trait loci (QTL) was introduced incorporating the information of mixed progeny from complex pedigrees. The method consisted of two steps based on single marker analysis. The first step was to examine the marker-trait association with a mixed model considering common environmental effect and reversed QTL-marker linkage phase. The second step was to estimate QTL effects by a weighted least square analysis. A simulation study indicated that the method incorporating mixed progeny from multiple generations improved the accuracy of QTL detection. The influence of within-genotype variance and recombination rate on QTL analysis was further examined. Detecting a QTL with a large within-genotype variance was more difficult than with a small within-genotype variance. Most of the significant marker-QTL association was detectable when the recombination rate was less than 15%.

  • The purposes of this study were to test the negative association between schizophrenia and rheumatoid arthritis(RA) and to clarify the role of prolactin and estrogen as protective factors in this association. The author compared the prevalence rate of RA between 561 patients with schizophrenia and 222 patients with mood disorder. For investigating the role of estrogen and prolactin, the author checked the plasma prolactin and estradiol level in 80 patients with paranoid schizophrenia and 77 patients with RA. The results were as follows. 1) Epidemiological data The prevalence rate of RA in the schizophrenic group was 0/561 and that of RA in the mood disorder group was 2/222. To compare these results between two groups, the author applied the Binomial test using the average prevalence rate of RA(0.8%) in the general population as a reference rate. The prevalence rate of RA in the schizophrenic group was significantly lower than that of RA in the general population. However, the prevalence rate of RA in the mood disorder group was not significantly different to that of RA in the general population. 2) Comparison of plasma prolactin and estradiol level between two groups The plasma level of prolactin in the schizophrenic group was significantly higher than that of prolactin in the RA group(p=0.000). However, the plasma level of estradiol in the schizophrenic group was significantly lower than that of estradiol in the RA group(p=0.017). These results were not consistent across gender. To contrast with the results in the female group, which were consistent with the results in the total subjects, for the male group, the plasma levels of prolactin and estradiol in the schizophrenic group were significantly higher than those of prolactin and estradiol in the RA group. These results support the results of previous studies which confirm the negative association between schizophrenia and RA. These results also suggest that the elevation of plasma prolactin level in the patients with schizophrenia has a antirheumatic effect while the elevation of plasma estradiol level in the patients with RA has a anti-schizophrenic effect, and that these effects act as a possible mechanism in the negative association between two disorders. However, these results suggest that this association is specific to female patients.
