The Effects of Subjective Knowledge on Information Search as Related to a Consumer's Life Cycle (의류제품 소비자의 생활주기에 따른 주관적 지식이 정보탐색에 미치는 영향)

  • This study attempted to determine how the subjective knowledge related to a consumer's life cycle influences their information search in the decision making process. The data was collected using a total of 349 questionnaires for the final analysis of this study. SPSS 12.0 for windows was used for the data analysis and the detailed analyses included descriptive analysis, factor analysis, reliability tests, one way ANOVA, multiple regression analysis and t-tests. The results of this study showed that there are differences in the subdivisions of subjective knowledge of apparel according to the consumer's life cycle and there is a difference in the types of information searches according to the consumer's subjective knowledge, and the subdivisions of subjective knowledge of the consumers influence their information search. This study showed that although it affected the internal search, the media search, and the store search, it did not influence the personal search in the decision making process.

A study on the knowledge and attitude of medical professionals about AIDS (에이즈 감염인의 인권에 대한 공중보건의사 인식 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to assess medical professionals' knowledge and attitude about AIDS. The subjects of study were medical doctors and dentists, belonging to Korea Association of Public Health Doctors. We sent a e-mailed questionnaire to 3,059 members and received 407 replies. Questionnaire was made on the basis of former studies' results and interviews with infected people. Major findings of this study were as follow. A lot of medical professionals had incorrect and biased knowledge about AIDS. More than half of them overestimated infection probability in case of being prickled with a contaminated needle. And many has negative attitude. The more they had correct informations about AIDS, the more they had possibilities to have friendly attitude to infected people. Incorrect knowledge cause excessive fears about AIDS, which amplify the stigma and discrimination. They contribute to people's vulnerability not only to HIV infection but also to other threats to health and well-being. It is in need of medical professionals' effort to increase their knowledge and improve attitude about AIDS.

  • This research does focus on realization of customizing recommendation service that all of formal, or informal learning is accomplished at real time according to worker's current situation or business context corresponding with the individual ability and the learning progress at industry or education field. For this, we designed the customizing intelligent recommendation system based on compound knowledge that workers can listen to coaching advices at real time and to retrieve and recommend multidimensional relation easily. Also, we constructed the repository based on compound knowledge and process engine for efficient management of compound knowledge. In specific industry, expert solution or coaching service will be created using the knowledge which is accumulated in long-term.

The Effects of Mental Capacity and Mental Demand on Problem Solving (문제해결자의 정신용량과 문제의 요구정신용량이 문제해결에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of mental capacity and mental demand on problem solving. Two kinds of tests were used for this study. One was FIT 752 test which required general knowledge, the other was Ohm's law test which required domain specific knowledge. The items of each test had the same logical structure and content knowledge but had different sizes of mental demand. The results of the study were summarized as follows: As mental demand of the items increased, the success rates decreased. The analysis of the hierarchical relation among items was that items with large mental demand were higher than those with small demand or at least the same level. According to the results, mental of an item was a significant factor affecting solving the problem. Effect of mental capacity on problem solving was different according to the kind of required knowledge to solve. Mental capacity was a significant factor affecting solving the FIT 752 task which required general knowledge. On the contary, solving the task which required domain specific knowledge, the results were different depending on subjects' chunk size. The results of problem solving of the groups which had small chunk size were that mental capacity was appeared a significant factor. However, results of problem solving of groups which had large chunk size were that mental capacity was not.

  • The PCK of teachers about informatics subject, which is viewed as one of required subjects in today's information society, is linked to what and how to teach, and that is very significant in terms of academic education. However, there are currently no efforts to develop items geared toward evaluating the PCK of teachers about informatics subject or to make a factor analysis of those items, though the importance of that subject in information society has been discussed. The purpose of this study was to develop and validate an instrument to size up the PCK of preservice elementary teachers about informatics subject. The finalized instrument consisted of 39 items regarding five factors that involved knowledge of curriculum, knowledge of expression, knowledge of content, knowledge of evaluation and knowledge of teaching methods.

  • An important element to consider in information subjects is problem solving skills. It is problem solving skills that emphasize "practical usage of learning" in which knowledge of information subjects is integrated along with the cross curricular characteristics of the information subjects. What is usually considered paramount in a subject is knowledge, so the question is, should problem solving be considered more important in information subjects? This study discusses the foundation of subjects based on knowledge in information science, and the specifics of the 2014 amendment to the U.K. curriculum. And based on the core subjects of the U.K. curriculum, this study also offers educational implications as to how knowledge and problem solving skills should be discussed.

A Study of the Role of the Science Teacher in light of Michael Polanyi's Epistemology

  • Science education has been in a state of crisis for some time. To understand the science teacher's role, it is helpful to reconsider an aspect as fundamental as the nature of science. Since teaching cannot be separated from learning and knowledge, their very close dynamic processes need to prescribe the role of the teacher and student simultaneously. However, traditional views are limited because they tend to emphasize some particular selected aspect of learning and teaching. This paper investigates the epistemology of Michael Polanyi (1891 1976), which is often considered to transcend the confrontation between objectivity and subjectivity of knowledge. Polanyi reconceptualized science knowledge as 'personal knowledge' based on his own experience as a scientist and a thinker. In this study, I discuss 1) the nature of science in light of Polanyi's epistemology, 2) what this says about the meaning of science learning and teaching, 3) the potential of these ideas for the role of the science teacher.

The Financial Educational Needs, Financial Knowledge Level, and Financial Behaviors of College Students (대학생의 소비자재무지식, 소비자 재무행동, 소비자재무교육 요구도)

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine levels of financial knowledge, to identify the financial education needs of college students, and to show how financial knowledge and education needs correlate. The results of this study indicated that the level of understanding of economy was the highest among the seven categories, whereas the overall level of financial knowledge was less than 50%. The need for financial education was relatively high in various topics of financial management, especially financial planning and savings. There was no significant relationship between knowledge level and educational needs except between financial planning and investment. Students who understand financial planning better want more financial education. College students in this study were not financially independent from their parents, receiving allowance and assistance in tuition payment, so their financial experiences were limited. Students who understood financial management showed greater need of financial education and had more financial experience. The findings in this study suggested that college should provide formal financial education as an elective course, which should include content related to financial planning and various financial products.

Maternal Knowledge of Childcare and Its Effects on Mother-Teacher Communication (어머니의 보육지식과 어머니-교사 의사소통과의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between maternal knowledge of childcare and mother-teacher communication. The participants consisted of 240 mothers whose children were enrolled at seven childcare centers in Seoul. Respondents were asked to complete a series of questionnaires reporting the important aspects of their childcare, the frequency of mother-teacher communication, and individual characteristics. Information about childcare's structural and procedural characteristics were obtained through interviews with the directors of those centers. The results indicated that mothers only answered 45.5% of questions correctly, and reported a lack of knowledge about childcare services in their respective centers. In particular, mothers didn't have information about caregivers (e.g, education, year of job experience, license, etc). Actual maternal knowledge was significantly correlated with the length of time which mothers were associated with their childcare and the frequency of mother-teacher communication. In addition, there were significant differences in the maternal knowledge regarding childcare services according to mothers' educational level. The results of this study imply that effective parent education programs are needed for mothers who want to enroll their children in childcare centers.

The Association Between Consumers' Knowledge and Behavior on Antibiotics Use for Common Cold (항생제에 대한 지식이 소비자의 항생제 사용행태에 미치는 영향)

  • The objective of this study is to examine the association between the knowledge and behavior of consumers on antibiotics use for common cold. Consumers' knowledge about antibiotics was measured by a questionnaire consisting of six items related to the effect of antibiotics and another three items about use of antibiotics. Telephone interview was conducted during the days between June 24 and July 2, 2009, and 1,015 persons responded the interview. Final analysis included 896 persons without missing data. Thirty six percent of respondents answered that they checked their prescriptions to ensure that antibiotics was prescribed for common cold. About 6% asked their doctors to prescribe antibiotics for common cold, and 9.7% asked them not to. More than a quarter of respondents answered that they used to take antibiotics leftover from a previous illness. Patients who knew better about the effect of antibiotics on common cold were more likely to ask doctors not to prescribe antibiotics (OR 2.30, 95% CI 1.45~3.65), or to check prescriptions (OR 1.86, 95% CI 1.40~2.46). Higher knowledge about use of antibiotics was related to low probability of asking doctors to prescribe antibiotics. This result suggests that consumers' knowledge about antibiotics can influence doctor's prescription of antibiotics for common cold.
