  • In this study, experiments for selection of association terms were conducted in order to discover the optimum method in selecting additional terms that are related to an initial query term. Association term sets were generated by using support, confidence, and lift measures of the Apriori algorithm, and also by using the similarity measures such as GSS, Jaccard coefficient, cosine coefficient, and Sokal & Sneath 5, and mutual information. In performance evaluation of term selection methods, precision of association terms as well as the overlap ratio of association terms and relevant documents' indexing terms were used. It was found that Apriori algorithm and GSS achieved the highest level of performances.

  • Among data mining techniques, the association rule is the most recently developed technique, and it finds the relevance between two items in a large database. And it is directly applied in the field because it clearly quantifies the relationship between two or more items. When we determine whether an association rule is meaningful, we utilize interestingness measures such as support, confidence, and lift. Interestingness measures are meaningful in that it shows the causes for pruning uninteresting rules statistically or logically. But the criteria of these measures are chosen by experiences, and the number of useful rules is hard to estimate. If too many rules are generated, we cannot effectively extract the useful rules. In this paper, we designed a variety of non-linear regression equations considering all association thresholds between the number of rules and three interestingness measures. And then we diagnosed multi-collinearity and autocorrelation problems, and used analysis of variance results and adjusted coefficients of determination for the best model through numerical experiments.

  • A model Indigenous Thai beef cattle breeding structure consisting of nucleus, multiplier and commercial units was used to evaluate the effect of changes in heritabilities of and genetic correlations between adaptation traits on genetic gain and profitability. A breeding objective that incorporated adaptation was considered. Two scenarios for improving both the production and the adaptation of animals where also compared in terms of their genetic and economic efficiency. A base scenario was modelled where selection is for production traits and adaptation is assumed to be under the forces of natural selection. The second scenario (+Adaptation) included all the information available for base scenario with the addition of indirect measures of adaptation. These measures included tick count (TICK), faecal egg count (FEC) and rectal temperature (RECT). Therefore, the main difference between these scenarios was seen in the records available for use as selection criteria and hence the level of investments. Additional genetic gain and profitability was generated through incorporating indirect measures of adaptation as criteria measured in the breeding program. Unsurprisingly, the results were sensitive to the changes in heritabilities and genetic correlations between adaptation traits. However, there were more changes in the genetic gain and profitability of the breeding program when the genetic correlations of adaptation and its indirect measures were varied than when the correlations between these measures were. The changes in the magnitudes of the genetic gain and profit per cow stresses the importance of using reliable estimates of these traits in any breeding program.

  • The purpose of this study is to review and analyze the protection measures for the importer's interests through the utilization of electronic delivery order(e-D/O) with the implementation of trade facilitation measures such as the simplification of customs procedures by the Korea Customs Service. The Korea Customs Service has been introducing several custom facilitation measures through the use of EDI system in the export and import processes. Korea has also already achieved a comparable level of sophistication in trade automation and custom simplification field. However, the full benefits of the trade automation and custom simplification measures have not yet achieved through the frequent illegal delivery of the imported goods in the bonded areas. Therefore, it is argued in this study that the introduction and the full utilization of e-D/O would help to reap the trade automation and custom simplification measures in Korea. In conclusion, it is emphasized that it would be very crucial for the Korean government to introduce the trusted repository for distribution of the electronic trade-related documents and the construction of the one stop single window platform for the trade and customs facilitation.

  • Examining the standards of review adopted by the dispute settlement body of the WTO in its decision on safeguard measures, the Appellate Body offers no coherent guidance or theory as to the legitimation of the safeguard measures adopted by the domestic authorities. It faults the lack of reasoned and adequate explanation in the national authorities' decision to impose safeguard measures, yet its own explanation of the permissible role for safeguard measure could hardly be less instructive. The Appellate Body has consistently emphasized fidelity to text in its decision but that approach can not work properly when the text is fundamentally deficient from the viewpoints that neither Article XIX nor the safeguard Agreement establish a coherent foundation for safeguard measures due to their vague and abstract provision. Without any coherent theory on guidance as to the legitimation of the safeguard measures, it would be absurd to expect WTO members to produce a reasoned and adequate explanation as to how their safeguard measures are in compliance with the WTO roles. In the absence of a thorough renegotiation for the proper operation of the WTO safeguard system, which seems quite unlikely for the foreseeable future, perhaps the unique method out of the current predicament is for the Appellate Body to lead a movement in establishing a sensible common law of safeguards, drawing on extra-textual guidance including the standards of review about their proper role in the WTO safeguard mechanism.

  • Background: This study aimed to prioritize policy measures to improve radiation safety management in medical institutions using the analytic hierarchy process. Materials and Methods: It adopted three policy options-engineering, education, and enforcement-to categorize safety management measures, the so-called Harvey's 3Es. Then, the radiation safety management measures obtained from the current system and other studies were organized into action plan categories. Using the derived model, this study surveyed 33 stakeholders of radiation safety management in medical institutions and analyzed the importance of each measure. Results and Discussion: As a result, these stakeholders generally identified enforcement as the most important factor for improving the safety management system. The study also found that radiation safety officers and medical physicists perceived different measures as important, indicating clear differences in opinions among stakeholders, especially in improving quality assurance in radiation therapy. Hence, the process of coordination and consensus is likely to be critical in improving the radiation safety management system. Conclusion: Stakeholders in the medical field consider enforcement as the most critical factor in improving their safety management systems. Specifically, the most crucial among the six specific action plans was the "reinforcement of the organization and workforce for safety management," with a relative importance of 25.7%.

  • Discourse analysis is useful for examining discourse characteristics of dementia patients and differentiating them from normal adults. However, inconsistent tasks, transcription methods and measures have been utilized, thus analyses were inevitably unsystematic. The purpose of this study was to investigate tasks, transcription methods and measures of discourse studies in dementia. Studies on dementia discourses written in English were collected via Scopus database containing abstracts and citations from 2005 to 2014, and were analyzed in detail. From the results, the most frequently used task was 'storytelling-topic'. It was observed that use of consistent transcription conventions rendered more reliable transcription data. Measures could be categorized into coherence, cohesion, productivity, propositional syntactic lexical analysis, and fluency, and each category belonged to discourse processing levels (i.e., processing of conceptual networks, propositions, and natural language units). In conclusion, future research warrants not only utilization of discourse tasks depending on dementia types and features, but also application of consistent transcription conventions. Additionally, measures based on the discourse processing theory would enable us to systematically interpret discourse studies.

  • Softwares including random number generation are abundant in modern informative society. But it's hard to get directly multivariate multinomial random numbers from existing softwares. Multivariate multinomial random numbers are greatly used in social and medical sciences. In this paper, we show that desired multivariate multinomial random numbers can be easily generated by the aids of existing random number generating software. Some characteristics of multivariate multinomial distribution are surveyd. Measures of association for the generated random numbers were computed and compared with population ones via simulation study.
