Purpose: To analyse hospital nurse staffing level of the general nursing unit, ICU, ER and OR in general hospitals. Method: The study sample was 105 acute general hospitals which had reported the bed size and number of nurses by the nursing units. Number of bed per nurse was analysed by the hospital characteristics and the staffing levels of the doctors and the nursing assistant personnels using t-test or ANOVA and Pearson's correlation. Results: Number of bed per nurse was 3.86 in general nursing units and 0.95 in ICU. Tertiary hospitals employed more nurses in general nursing units and ICU than general hospitals. Hospitals located in Seoul and public hospitals employed more ICU nurses. OR nurse staffing level was higher in academic hospitals. Hospital size was positively correlated with nurse staffing level of the general nursing unit, ICU, ER and OR respectively. Total nurse staffing level of the hospital was positively correlated with doctor and nursing assistant personnels staffing levels. Conclusion : Differentiated nursing fee schedule was needed to implement in ER or OR. Regulation policy should be needed for the hospitals which violated hospital nurse staffing level of the law.
Purpose: The study aimed to examine the effects of nurse staffing levels on patient outcomes in long-term care hospitals in South Korea using path analysis. Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of national data, which included the 2021 hospital assessment results of long-term care hospitals from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service. Data collection was performed between June 19 and June 27, 2023. The study sample consisted of 1,215 hospitals, and we analyzed the data using SAS 9.4 and Mplus 8 software. Results: The average numbers of patients per registered nurse, certified nursing assistant, and nursing staff, including both registered nurses and certified nursing assistant, was 10.00, 7.43, and 4.00, respectively. Path analysis revealed that the number of patients per registered nurse had direct effects on improvements in activities of daily living and indirect effects on indwelling catheterization, pressure ulcer improvement, and weight loss. The number of patients per certified nursing assistant had direct effects on new pressure ulcer development and pressure ulcer improvement, with no indirect effects. The number of patients per nursing staff had direct effects on pressure ulcer improvement and no indirect effects on other patient outcomes. Conclusion: The findings suggest that establishing policies to evaluate staffing levels of registered nurse and certified nursing assistants separately is necessary in order to improve registered nurse staffing levels and patient outcomes in long-term care hospitals.
Microsurgical procedures are time-consuming and sometimes fatigue-inducing. However, a skilled assistant and scrub nurse can help surgery be performed more smoothly and rapidly. Three microsurgical simulation courses were held for perioperative nurses at our institution. Each course consisted of two lectures and two practice microsurgical sessions, and was evaluated with a post-course survey. The respondents all felt that their knowledge of microsurgical instruments, sutures, microscope set-up, and microsurgical skills had improved following the course. Many felt that their ability to predict what the surgeon would request during a microsurgical case improved, and that they were able to handle instruments and sutures better. The nurses also reported improved confidence in assisting with microsurgical procedures and tolerance of the long operative time in some microsurgical cases. Based on our experience, a basic microsurgery course for nurses can play a significant role in training effective and competent microsurgical scrub nurses.

This study aims to investigate the factors influencing job satisfaction to job stress of physician assistant(PA) nurses. This research design was a descriptive study. The subjects in this study were 104 PA nurses. Data were collected from September 1, 2010 to January 10, 2011, and analyzed by SPSS PASW statistics 18.0 program. The mean score of men on the job stress was 43.47(${\pm}13.77$), The mean score of women was 45.07(${\pm}9.78$). The mean score of job satisfaction was 2.72(${\pm}0.30$). There was no statistical difference between general characteristics and job satisfaction. There were statistical difference between unmarried subjects and organizing system(p<.05), inadequate compensation(p<.01). In the results of multivariate regression analysis, adjusted $R^2$ value was 0.567. The model fit was 56.7%. Job satisfaction was low in the insufficient job control and inadequate organizing system. It is hospital policies for the reduction of job stress(particularly, insufficient job control, and organizing system stress).
The intention of this study was to investigate relationship of PA (Physician Assistant) nurses' workplace bullying, burnout and emotional intelligence. Research respondents were 150 PA nurses who are working at 19 different hospitals from 5 cities and provinces and the collected data were analyzed with SPSS 21.0 program. This study discovered that 20.7% of PA nurses had experienced workplace bullying and 54.7% had witnessed workplace bullying. The workplace bullying scored 2.14 (on a 4-point scale), emotional intelligence scored 4.88 (on a 7-point scale), and burnout scored 3.22 (on a 7-point scale). As a result of correlation analysis, as workplace bullying was higher, the level of burnout was greater, while as the emotional intelligence was higher, the level of burnout was lower. Thus, there is a need for improvement plan for bullying in workplace to alleviate PA nurses' burnout and strategy to improve emotional intelligence and develop education and program.

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the levels of burnout, self-efficacy, intention to stay, and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) among nurses in small- and medium-sized hospitals, and factors related to nurses' OCB. Methods: A targeted sampling method was adopted, whereby 185 clinical nurses employed at 1 of 4 hospitals were enrolled in the study. OCB was measured with a tool developed by Podsaoff et al. Associated factors, including nurses' general characteristics, burnout, self-efficacy, and intention to stay, were measured using a structured survey. Data were analyzed by frequencies, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and multiple stepwise regression. Results: Levels of OCB in nurses was on average 3.52 on a scale of 1 to 5, exhibiting a positive correlation with self-efficacy and intention to stay, and a negative correlation with burnout. The final related factors were self-efficacy, burnout and intention to stay with a predictive and explanatory power of 52% for OCB. Conclusion: To increase the level of OCB of nurses, an environment in which such behavior is encouraged needs to be established by introducing measures related to administrative support and task efficiency that reduces mental burnout, while increasing self-efficacy and intention to stay.

The purpose of this research was fourfold: (a) to identify the use rate of the indirect care interventions performed by nurses, (b) to estimate the time to perform each intervention, (c) to identify the indirect care interventions to be delegated to others, and (d) to determine the level of provider preparation needed to delegate indirect care interventions. The sample consisted of 199 nurses working in three hospitals. The Indirect Care Survey developed by the Iowa Intervention Project team was used for data collection. The instrument was translated to Korean and validated by nurse experts. Each of the 26 indirect care interventions were used several times a day. Four interventions (i.e.. Documentation, Shift Report, Specimen Management, and Transport) were performed several times a day by 50% or more of the nurses. The most frequently used intervention was Documentation, followed by the interventions Shift report. Environmental Management, Transport, and Examination Assistance. The least used intervention was Quality Monitoring, followed by the interventions Order Transcription, Referral, Health Care Information Exchange, Multidisciplinary Care Conference, and Product Evaluation. The intervention taking the most time to per-form was Technology Management (155.3 minutes), followed by the interventions Documentation, (122.2 minutes), Delegation (84.4 minutes), Supply management (83.4 minutes), and Preceptor: Student (79.9 minutes), Overall, the nurses reported that they would not delegate to others the majority of the interventions. More than 50% of the nurses would not delegate 21 interventions. Shift Report would not be delegated by 95% of the nurses and Documentation would not be delegated by 92% of the nurses. Caregiver Support would be delegated by 68% of the nurses to family. Three interventions (i.e.. Environmental Management, Examination Assistance, and Transport) would be delegated by more than 50% of the nurses to Nursing Assistant. This study will contributes to determining costs of nursing services and enhancing quality of nursing care. Replication study will be needed with large sample.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the meaning of incivility experienced by nursing students in relations with nurses during clinical practice. Methods: This is a descriptive qualitative study that included thirty participants using convenience sampling in universities in S, J, Ch, and C provinces. Data saturation was achieved and methodological rigor was established. Qualitative content analysis was used to inductively determine categories. Results: The four categories derived from analysis were 'left alone at clinical field', 'treated as an assistant', 'not respected as a person' and 'ignored future dreams'. Conclusions: Nursing students continue to carry out repetitive, low-risk tasks, for which they are not properly trained due to the lack of practical guidance in clinical practice. During clinical practice, they are not respected as persons by nurses and are negatively influenced by nurse professionals. A solution to this requires organic cooperation and policy preparation at universities and hospital sites to improve practical training of nursing students.
