  • Objectives : This study was undertaken in order to establish the composite principles of fomulas through the of Sa-am acupuncture therapy and the theory of sovereign, minister, assistant and courier. Methods : We analyzed the formula construction of Sa-am acupuncture therapy, and applied the theory of sovereign, minister, assistant and courier that was referred to in the preface of "Essential Rhymes on Acupuncture and Moxibustion by Master Sa-am" to the analysis of formula construction. Results & Conclusions : 1. Sa-am acupuncture therapy was acupuncture and moxibustion method that inherited and developed progress contents of Chinese traditional acupuncture and moxibustion. 2. The theory of sovereign, minister, assistant and courier was based on the idea that acupuncture and herbal medicine had the same origins. 3. Formula constructions of Sa-am acupuncture therapy were formed complicatedly, but reflected the theory of sovereign, minister, assistant and courier. 4. The supplementing acupuncture point that is Chunbu-point in other merdian became Sovereign, the draining acupuncture point that is Chunbu-point in other merdian became Minister, and the supplementing and draining acupuncture points in same merdian became Assistant and Courier that mean leading merdian points.

  • The POS(Point Of Sales) system is S/W and H/W that enables to analyse and evaluate sales information that has been collected in the real-time at point of sales by each department in the store. However, existing POS systems are mainly aiming at the large scaled store with the specific high-priced equipment, so that in applying them to a store specializing in food have weak point to use them in the cost or scale respect. In this paper, we design and implement a web based POS system with PC(Personal Computer) and PDA/(Personal Digital Assistant) in wireless internet environment to apply POS system to a store specializing in food, without specific equipments.

  • For efficient mechanical system optimization, a new two-point approximation method is presented. Unlike the conventional two-point approximation methods such as TPEA, TANA, TANA-1, TANA-2 and TANA-3, this introduces the shifting level into each exponential intervening variable to avoid the lack of definition of the conventional exponential intervening variables due to zero-or negative-valued design variables. Then a new quadratic approximation whose Hessian matrix has only diagonal elements of different values is proposed in terms of these shifted exponential intervening variables. These diagonal elements are determined in a closed form that corrects the typical error in the approximate gradient of the TANA series due to the lack of definition of exponential type intervening variables and their incomplete second-order terms. Also, a correction coefficient is multiplied to the pre-determined quadratic term to match the value of approximate function with that of the previous point. Finally, in order to show the numerical performance of the proposed method, a sequential approximate optimizer is developed and applied to solve six typical design problems. These optimization results are compared with those of TANA-3. These comparisons show that the proposed method gives more efficient and reliable results than TANA-3.

  • This study was performed to investigate nurses’ perception for nutrition education. The subjects of this study were 197 nurses and 94 nursing assistants working at hospitals in the Kyung-nam area. The survey was conducted by using a self-administered questionnaire in November, 2001. The results were as follows : Sixty-seven point seven percent of the subjects were nurse, 32.3% were nursing assistant. Average age of subjects was 26.9 years old, average nursing experience was 5.7 years, and 70.7% of the subjects graduated from a junior college. The average nutrition knowledge score was 14.3$\pm$2.5 out of possible 20 points. Seventy-four point two percent of the subject responded that nutrition education is very necessary for patient, and positive responses in the nurse were higher than that nursing assistant(p<0.001). Only 8.6% of the subjects had nutrition education training. The perceptions about a suitable person for nutrition counseling and nutrition education indicated dietitian(69.3%) and nurse(21.3%). Fifty-two point eight percent of the subjects responded that they would not participate in nutrition education themselves and the main reason for this was that they believed lack of expert knowledge(43.4%), and that such courses should be taught by specialist(40.5%). Forty-eight point eight percent of subjects had nutrition counseling experience for patient, and nurses, married nurses and those over 2 years of nursing careers had significantly higher nutrition counseling experience for patient than nursing assistant, unmarried nurses and those under 2 years of nursing careers(p<0.05-p<0.001)

  • In order to overcome the problems of contact palmprint recognition, a non-contact palmprint recognition system is developed on personal computer (PC) platform. Three methods, namely "double-line-single-point" (DLSP), "double-assistant-crosshair" (DAC) and "none-assistant-graphic" (NAG), are implemented for the palmprint localization to solve the severe technical challenges, including the complex background, variant illuminations, uncontrollable locations and gestures of hands. In NAG, hand segmentation and the cropping of region of interest are performed without any assistant graphics. The convex hull contour of hand helps detect the outside contour of little finger as well as the valley bottom between thumb and index finger. The three methods of palmprint localization have good operating efficiency and can meet the performance requirements of real-time system. Furthermore, an attendance system on PC platform is designed and developed based on non-contact palmprint recognition.

  • This paper deals with the problem of change-point estimation where there is one level change in location with iid errors. A change-point estimator using rank average is proposed with the proof of its consistency. A comparison study of various change-point estimators is done by simulation on the mean the proportion and the variance when the errors are from the normal and the double exponential distributions.

  • This study is about the effect on the user's cognitive stress by font size when they read on PDA (Personal Digital Assistant). The evaluation was done through both subjective evaluation and physiological one, which is brain wave test, while the research and analysis were focused on the relationship between the user's cognitive stress and font, size. The two final results were found out as follows. 1) Font sizes, which were tested, were 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16points. Among theses, font size 14 was the least stressful for the users. while the most stressful size was found out 8 points. 2) The cerebral cortex reaction according to the font size activated occipital lobe, parietal lobe of occipital visual area. Here we could come to a very important conclusion that the smaller font size on mobile information appliances mate users the more stressed.

  • Currently, in spite of continual efforts the information utility of construction industry has low-efficiency for the other industry. These problems arose from the erroneous efforts for the information utility of construction industry. Because it left out of consideration of the construction characters, which are the center of construction sites, and this information system was directly introduced and operated from the other industry. Also, we can point out mistake that the existing information systems disregarded using facility in the fixing of these problems. Therefore, this study describes a new process, which purposes to build and utilize construction information management system as using Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) of the mobile communication concept, to solve the problems of existing construction information management system.

  • We consider the problem of testing the existence of change in mean and estimating the change-point when the data are from the normal distribution. A change-point estimator using the likelihood ratio test statistic, Gombay and Horvath (1990) test statistic, and nonparametric change-point estimator using Carlstein (1988) empirical distribution are studied when there exists one change-point in the mean. A power study is done to compare the change test statistics. And a comparison study of change-point estimators for estimation capability is done via simulations with S-plus software.
