A chromogenic biosensor employing microfluidics on a chip has been developed for the determination of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (HDL-C) in human serum. We have investigated a plain and effective method to immobilize enzymes within the microchip without chemically modifying micro-channel or technically micro-fabricating column reactor and fluid channel network. In assessing risk factors of coronary heart disease, a micro-chip system would minimize requirements of instrument and reagent handling.

In this study, the usefulness of Radar method by means of assessing deck data-layer properties-was tested on the highway bridge. The obtained GPR data were compared with values measured from drilled cores and damage mapping by the visual survey. It is shown that GPR can provide the highly accurate measurements of layer properties of concrete decks and can map areas of deterioration in bridge by dielectric constants.

The estimation problem of predictive value of a positive test(PVP), which is assessing the accuracy of a screening test is considered. Score methods discussed by Gart and Nam(1988) are proposed for constructing confidence interval for PVP. The simulation studies are conducted in evaluating the proposed methods and existing approximate ones.

Investigators use either Euclidean distance or volume of a simplex defined composed of data points as agreement index to measure chance-corrected agreement among observers for multivariate interval data. The agreement coefficient proposed by Um(2004) is based on a volume of a simplex and does not depend on the variables' measuring units. We consider a comparison of Um(2004)'s agreement coefficient with others based on two unit-free distance measures, Pearson distance and Mahalanobis distance. Comparison among them is made using hypothetical data set.

In this study, we examined the prompted reflections of four middle school mathematics teachers after their lessons. We used Cohen and Ball's instructional triangle (1999) to investigate teachers' reflections. With this framework, we addressed questions of what characteristics in reflections the participant teachers have and how the reflections differ over time. Findings indicated that the teachers showed differences in the instances of assessing and changes over time in the ways they gained more insights about students' understanding.

Product reliability is important to quality and competitiveness. Much management and engineering efforts go into evaluating reliability, assessing new designs and changes of manufacturing processes, identifying cause of failure. Major methods are based on environmental test. In this study, we analysis the environmental test data of the electrical component, unit, set. These data were gathered for 7 years.

This paper investigates the service quality determinants in management consulting. Quality dimensions in SERVQUAL research, as well as several dimensions specific to the consulting service, have been reviewed. A survey has been conducted by carefully developed questionnaires for the hypothesized eight quality dimensions. The results of the statistical analyses support the eight quality dimensions in the consulting service : reliability, assurance, responsiveness, empathy, ethics, participation, communication, and reputation. The results demonstrate that reliability, assurance, participation, and reputation are especially influential in determining customer satisfaction. The research results provide useful insights for a customer in assessing alternative service providers and foreseeing the outcome from the chosen consultants.

It is known that under storm waves, beach will respond by eroding material from the beach Ace and the formation of longshore bar(s) in the vicinity of breaking point. This breakpoint bar is believed to have the effect of slowing down beach erosion by dissipating incoming wave energy and retarding offshore sediment transport. Recently, artificial bin are being proposed as beach protective measures based on this reasoning. (omitted)
