  • Among many automotive manufacturing processes, an assembly process has the smallest automatization percentage. As the correct assembly of the supplied components according to its specification is directly related with the quality of the final product, it is of the utmost importance to reduce the possible human errors in the assembly line. However, due to the lack of an effective verification system for an assembly line, currently, there is huge cost loss caused by the errors in seat assembly every year. Therefore, in this paper, to overcome the limit of the current verification method and to prevent the occurrence of assembly errors caused by mismatching assembling components or its specifications, a verification system and its method is proposed employing the RFID technology. The system is for automatic detection of the assembly errors, so that it can reduce the time and effort needed for verification and maximize the work efficiency. Also, by preventing the assembly errors in advance, the productivity can be increased through a quality innovation.

  • To shorten product development time and cost, integrated information managements of product, manufacturing process and resource are essential. In the area of material addressing, process engineers should make their decisions in the manner of collaborative engineering in order to reduce the manufacturing preparation time and cost in the product development and production. A digital virtual factory which is an united digital model of entire factory could be very useful for these areas. In this paper, the digital virtual factory is constructed and used for material addressing and analysis of an automotive general assembly shop. We developed the material addressing system for automotive general assembly shops using digital virtual factory models and nesting algorithms, and applied it to realistic problems of a Korean automotive company as an convenient and effective way of material addressing.

  • With the success of flexible manufacturing systems(FMSs), flexible assembly systems(FASs) have been developed to automatic factories further. As in a cellular FMS, a celluar FAS is considered as the most flexible and feasible assembly systems configuration. This paper presents a method for the integrated layout design in cellular FASs. Unlike the traditional paper, this paper deals with the formation of cells and the layout of cells for jobs with operation times on different machines. The procedure in this paper consists of two distinct phases. The first phase presents machine arrangement in a double rows flowline. cell formation not to allow intercellular movements, and integrated layout design in cellular FASs considering the characteristics of FAS, layout, and production factors This phase uses older optimal algorithm. The second phase proposes to balance the system with an objective of reducing the degree of workload deviation in the cells. Simulated annealing method is used to balance the system. This phase also shows the integrated layout design in cellular FASs with the cost less than total cost of the first phase.

양팔 로봇을 이용한 조립 작업에서 수명을 고려한 최적 운동 계획법 (Optimized Motion Planning Considering the Lifetime for Bimanual Robotic Assembly)

  • The objective of this research is to verify the quantitative efficiency of a bimanual robotic task. Bimanual robots can realize dexterous and complicated motions using two cooperating arms. However, its motion planning and control method are not simple for implementing flexible tasks such as assembly. In this paper, the proposed motion planning method is used to find an optimal solution satisfying a designed cost function and constraints with regard to the kinematics and redundancy of the bimanual robot. The simulation results show that the lifetime of the manipulator can be changed by the proposed cost function consisting of angular velocity and angular acceleration of each joint in the same assembly task.

스플라인 샤프트 공차해석 (Tolerance Analysis of Spline Shaft Assembly)

  • Every mechanical part for mass production has dimensions with tolerances in engineering drawing. Tolerance is given to guarantee assemble parts together satisfying functional requirements and dimensional constraints. Tolerance is essential factor for standardization of parts or assembly and has huge influence on manufacturing cost. It will be desirable to have tolerances as broad as possible for minimizing manufacturing cost. This paper describes tolerance analysis of u-joint assembly that is a part of automobile steering system. Within the range of tolerances of parts, accumulated effect is estimated by arithmetic calculation, probability theory and Monte carlo simulation. Each result is compared to investigate the method for increasing productivity.

  • This paper deals with the evaluation methods for flexible automated assembly systems based on characteristics of automation and flexibility. In this study, the degrees of automation and flexibility are calculated quantitatively as the means of evaluating assembly systems. The degree of automation is grasped wheter the detailed assembly flexibility can be calculated indirectly14 by the estimation of cost and time which are caused to adapt the changed environment of the assembly system. As a case study, an assembly system is evaluated for showing the procedures of the developed method.

  • The assembly line is one of the typical process hard to analyze with mathematical methods including even stochastic approaches, because it includes many manual operations varying drastically depending on operators' skills. In this paper, we suggest the simulation optimization method to design the optimal assembly line of a gas oven. To achieve the optimal design, firstly, we modeled the real gas oven assembly line with actual data, such as assembly procedures, operation rules, and other input parameters and so on. Secondly, we build some alternatives to enhance the line performance based on business rules and other parameters. The DOE(Design Of Experiment) techniques were used for testing alternatives under various situations. Each alternatives performed optimization process with evolution strategy; one of the GA(Genetic Algorithm) techniques. As a result, we can make about 7% of throughputs up with the same time and cost. By this process, we expect the assembly line can obtain the solution compatible with their own problems.

  • Wire harness assembly is one of the most labor intensive processes in manufa- tuing, but the process has not been fully automated yet. In this paper a variety of concepts for flexible automated assembly system are suggested to design a robot- based wire harness assembly cell. All concepts are featuring an automatic, fedkng of wires, terminating routing, inserting and bundling. Based upon possible assembly methods and procedures, six alternative systems are proposed and, finally, evaluated10 from the view point of system performance such as flexibility, reliability assembly time and equipment cost.

  • In this thesis presents line balancing problems of two-sided and mixed model assembly line widely used in practical fields using genetic algorithm for reducing throughput time, cost of tools and fixtures and improving flexibility of assembly lines. Two-sided and mixed model assembly line is a special type of production line where variety of product similar in product characteristics are assembled in both sides. This thesis proposes the genetic algorithm adequate to each step in tow-sided and mixed model assembly line with suitable presentation, individual, evaluation function, selection and genetic parameter. To confirm proposed genetic algorithm, we apply to increase the number of tasks in case study. And for evaluation the performance of proposed genetic algorithm, we compare to existing algorithm of one-sided and mixed model assembly line. The results show that the algorithm is outstanding in the problems with a larger number of stations or larger number of tasks.

자중과 용접변형을 고려한 평블록 조립 시뮬레이션 (An Assembly Simulation of a Plane Block with Gravity and Welding Deformations)

  • 완성되어진 블록을 이용한 탑재의 과정에서 발생하는 블록 경계간의 판재 겹쳐짐 현상, 과도한 간격 및 단차의 발생현상은 선박의 건조비용과 공수를 증가시키는 요인이 된다. 본 논문에서는 블록의 조립 및 탑재에 관한 시뮬레이션 시스템을 제안하고 이중 조립에 관한 시뮬레이션을 용접순서에 따라 용접변형 및 자중을 고려하여 유한요소해석을 ANSYS를 이용하여 수행하였다. 용접에 의한 변형은 실험에 의한 변형량을 이용한 등가강성에 따른 등가 하중을 사용하여 탄성적인 해석법을 수행하여 예측하였으며 선체 이중저 평블록을 패널 조립법에 근거한 조립순서에 따라 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 시뮬레이션을 통한 변형으로부터 조립순서에 따른 중간 제품의 형상의 변화에 의한 강성의 변화에 기인한 변형량의 차이를 확인 할 수 있었으며, 자중의 효과를 반드시 고려하여야 함을 확인 할 수 있었다.
