A case of presacral chordoma in a 55-year-old male diagnosed by aspiration biopsy cytology Is reported. Cytologically, three cell types were recognized in a mucoid background. large, mononucleated or binucleated physaliphorous cells with vacuolated bubbly cytoplasm; small, uniform and rounded non-vacuolated cells; and cells with microvacuolated and plump cytoplasm. The diagnosis of chordoma was possible because typical radiological and cytomorphological features were supported by the results of special staining and immunohistochemical staining with the cell block specimen obtained from the fine needle aspiration.

Amyloid tumor is a tumorlike localized deposit of amyloid which is encountered occasionally in association with multiple myeloma and various chronic inflammatory diseases. This report describes a case of solitary amyloid tumor of the neck which was the presenting symptom arising in association with multiple myeloma. A 56-year-old woman complained of a palpable neck mass and fine needle aspiration was done. Multiple myeloma was diagnosed on the basis of the bone marrow biopsy and monoclonality of kappa light chain. The histologic and cytologic features of the amyloid appear to be characteristic and may allow a definitive diagnosis to be made on needle aspiration biopsy.

We report a case of fine needle aspiration cytology of endodermal sinus tumor of the ovary. A 13-year-old girl complained of abdominal mass and pain. The abdominal sonography revealed a well-demarcated huge mass, which was solid and multiseptated. Percutaneous fine needle aspiration was performed from the mass. The smears revealed moderate cellularity, which was arranged in sheets or clumps of pleomorphic malignant cells on mucoid background The valuable characteristic features of tumor cells were papillary configuration, vacuolated cytoplasm and intracellular and extracellular hyaline globules. The diagnosis was confirmed later by histologic study of surgical resection of the specimen.

Nocardia, aerobic members of the order of Actinomycetaceae, produces infections in human lung. Nocardial infection is associated with underlying diseases of immuno-suppression or treatment with corticosteroid. It is difficult to detect Nocardia by sputum examination or histologic sections and it has rarely been diagnosed by fine needle aspiration of the lung. We describe a case of pulmonary nocardiosis in a 72 year-old man, diagnosed by fine needle aspiration, which was confirmed by culture of aspirates. The aspirates showed neutrophil-predominant inflammatory cells with microorganisms demonstrated by Gomori methenamine silver and Gram stain. The organisms had characteristic long blanching filamentous structures. The lesions on chest X-ray were in resolution with antimicrobial therapy.

Pigmented villonodular synovitis is a destructive, fibrohistiocytic proliferation producing innumerable villous and nodular synovial protrusions. Its common locations are knee, ankle, foot, and hip. Although histologic feature of this tumor is well known, there have been few reports on the fine needle aspiration cytology findings. We report the cytologic features of a biopsy-proven case oi pigmented villonodular synovitis. The patient was a 21-year-old male with a mass of the right knee for 2 years. On fine needle aspiration cytology, the aspirates was composed of abundant mononuclear histiocytic cells, singly and in clusters, multinucleated slant cells, and hemoslderin pigments.

This study examined the differential effects of High-Impact Practices(HIPs) on the career aspiration of STEM college students by gender. Through the theoretical lens of Social Cognitive Career Theory(SCCT), a two-level model analysis was conducted. A sample of 2,101 third- and fourth-year undergraduate students majoring in STEM at 38 universities, which had been collected from the National Survey on College Student Experiences and Learning Outcomes funded by the Korea Research Foundation, was used. This study found that the three HIP domains(learning with peers, faculty support, content relevancy) had different influences depending on gender. These findings suggest that HIPs can benefit the development of female students' career aspiration and have gender-differential effects on students in STEM majors. Based on those findings, this study also deduced implications about the roles of faculty members and higher-education institutions that might foster the retention of women in STEM.

Diagnosis of a thymic carcinoid was made on transthoracic fine needle aspiration in a 36-year old woman who had an anterior mediastinal mass on chest X-ray and CT scan. The aspiration smears showed numerous anastomosing ribbons and cords of small round tumor cells. The tumor cells had slightly eccentric nuclei and some granular cytoplasm. The small and uniform nuclei of the tumor cells had finely granular chromatin and thin nuclear membrane. The cytologic diagnosis of a carcinoid was confirmed on histopathologic, immunohistochemical, and electromicroscopic examination of surgical specimen.

We report a case of hepatoma with duodenal metastasis in a 53 year-old male patient. Hepatoma was confirmed by fine needle aspiration cytology technique, and duodenal metastasis by gastrofiberscopic biopsy. Duodenal metastasis of hepatoma is rare. We briefly review the role of fine needle aspiration cytology technique in diagnosis of hepatoma.

We describe a case of fine needle aspiration cytology of renal angiomyolipoma which was not associated with the clinical complex of tuberous sclerosis and was incidentally found. It was a solitary lesion and the clinical impression before needle aspiration was renal ceil carcinoma. The aspirated specimen showed mature fat cells, clusters of renal tubular epithelial cells and sheets of pleomorphic smooth muscle cells with fibrillary cytoplasm. The nuclei of smooth muscle celis varied in size and shape. Since the treatment of renal angiomyolipoma differs from that of renal ceil carcinoma, the preoperative cytological diagnosis is of great value.

Chondroblastoma is a benign bone tumor accounting for less than 1 % of bone tumor. It infrequently involves the flat bones, among which ribs are particularly rare. On fine needle aspiration cytology, the diagnostic smear consists of chondroblasts, osteoclast-like giant cells, and chondroid matrix. The cytologic hallmark to differentiate from other giant cell-containing lesions is chondroblasts. We experienced a case of chondroblastoma in a 13-year-old female. Fine needle aspiration cytology from the 5 th rib revealed dispersed chondroblasts and osteoclast-like giant cells on hemorrhagic background. Chondroblasts had round to oval nuclei with fine, evenly distributed chromatin and distinctive grooves or indentation. Their cytoplasm was well-defined.
