  • The Fourth Industrial Revolution has emerged, and technologies of various industries are being converged, compounded, or clouded computing, mobile, or big data. The emergence of a variety of skills and new jobs to match them is bringing the public out of the education and occupation of traditional metal crafts. In this change, craft education should find and study the education method suitable for the present times, and apply it to the educational field to raise public interest and revival. To this end, we will investigate the cases of education in other industries where new materials or technologies have been introduced, and use them in education of traditional metal craft techniques. In addition, we will investigate various cases and features of 3D printing technology and use it for education in craft techniques that have limited time, space and resources.

  • This study explored the background of contemporary furniture design called New Design furniture, which newly expresses the aesthetics of communication in the postmodern era. Qualitative conceptual analysis as the principle methodology was used to explore the background of the decorative and meaningful contemporary furniture in postmodernism. Thereby, the postmodern concepts of Charles Jencks, Robert Venturi, and Michael Graves were analyzed in terms of their postmodern architecture and furniture. As initiatives of postmodern architecture and furniture, Jencks, Venturi, and Graves explored the pluralism and eclecticism, the decoration, the semantics, and the materials reestablished from the traditions of craft. As a result, their furniture was expressed by various wood and color; the furniture was beautiful, decorative, pluralistic, and eclectic for communicating symbol, metaphor, narrative, and/or humor with people; the furniture has influenced the communicative elements on the contemporary furniture design called New Design furniture design, which shows the blurring of fine arts and craft distinctions.

  • Middle-aged women experience physical and mental changes along with the loss of femininity, and they feel psychologically empty according as their child's growth and independence reduces the role of care and parenting. These women understand the sense of loss and emptiness caused of their role reduction as an opportunity to maintain their values and beliefs for their leisure life. Accordingly, middle-aged women overcome negative emotions facing in the middle-aged such as depression or empty mind, and establish self-esteem and social support in recognizing it as an opportunity for building relationship and self-realization in social relations, which come through human to human communication by doing craft activities. In this study, in order to analyze the effect of the experience factor of craft activity to self-esteem and social support for middle-aged women, we set up a research model with the experience factor of craft activity as an independent variable and self-esteem and social support as dependent variables. As a result of the study, educational experiences, recreational experiences, and deviant experiences had a meaningful effect on self-esteem, but aesthetic experiences did not have meaningful effect. And, recreational experiences and aesthetic experiences had a meaningful effect on social support, but educational experiences and deviant experiences did not have meaningful effect on social support. Therefore, the institutional system for craft experiences, that can provide content of environmental characteristics for aesthetic factor and visual elements are required. It influences to the change of senses and emotions of middle-aged women. Also, there are limitations that this study did not consider factors of ultimate life changes through craft activities. Thus this study suggests development of new model for variables of wellbeing-related matters.

  • The Baekje Gilt-bronze Incense Burner which was excavated in an ancient temple site in Neungsan-ri, within the City wall of Buyeo-Gun on 23rd December 1993, was a quintessence of the Bakje Arts that people could not have imagined until that time. The Baekje Gilt-bronze Incense Burner transcended 1400 years of time and space. The censer that finally came up to us delivered a kind of a powerful message to us. The power was so strong and mysterious that as if an ancestor who had been sleeping in the grave with a great silent had woken up and become alive to tell us something very precious. Baekje Gilt-bronze Incense Burner, unlike any other existing artifacts, might have a possibility that could provide an insight of the ancients' psych who once lived on our land. This kind of view from several archaeologists, therefore, made our hearts be filled with excitement and flutter. We call 21st century as an era of culture. This era requests that the culture needs to be ethnical but the culture also needs to go beyond that ethnic. In other words, a culture without an ethnic cannot exist, and a culture that puts an ethnic the very first before any other things cannot exist as well. Regaining our identities first and then embracing and harmonizing various cultures can be an wise way overcoming above problem. Hence, through this study, I intend to recognize characteristic of plasticity for Baekje Gilt-bronze Incense Burner, understand the world of Baekje people's spirit and thus provide an opportunity to shed new light on the Baekje Arts. By doing so, I would like to publicize a metal craft of Korea to the world. I also try to seek for an identity of Korea's craft culture which is receding and find a direction for the Korea's craft.

  • Due to the 4th Industrial Revolution and the Digital Revolution, many changes are being made in the manufacturing method and structure in the field of plastic arts and crafts. Therefore, in this study, we tried to present a new work method suitable for this era by effectively utilizing the digital technology called 3D printer. For this study, first of all, the theoretical background of 3D printing technology was understood, and prior studies on the use cases of 3D printing technology were summarized. Based on this, three types of craft molds were produced using a 3D printer. As a result of the study, there were characteristics that appear respectively depending on the thickness or overlapping of the craft molds using 3D printing technology. First, in the case of the thickness of the craft molds, the thinner the strength, the weaker the strength, but there was an advantage in that it was easier to take out the contents of the molds. However, it was determined that the thick craft molds was stable to contain the dense and heavy material. Second, in the case of overlapping of craft molds, the advantages of both thin and thick molds were obtained as a result of using a double-layered molds. However, there was a disadvantage that the surface of the contents taken out was not smooth, so that post-processing was necessary. In future research, I hope to deal with the material of the filament used in 3D printers.
