  • This study was investigated the contents of total polyphenol, flavonoids and antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of Codonopsis lanceolata extracts according to different steaming times. The contents of total polyphenol and flavonoid proportionally increased from 6.45 mgGAE/g to 18.26 mgGAE/g and 2.01 mgRE/g to 6.12 mgRE/g according to ethanol extracts at EDS7. DPPH radical scavenging activity was found to have been 15.26~65.2% and showed the highest level of antioxidant activity at EDS7 was 65.2%. The activity of ABTS radical scavenging and SOD-like activity were also the same result. DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity was related to the number of steaming, and the scavenging activity was increased up to 7 times of steaming. The antimicrobial activity of EDS7 had strong antioxidant activity. Antimicrobial activities were examined against 5 microorganisms related to pathogens and food poisoning. The antimicrobial Activity was different depending on the bacteria, but it was effective at the concentration of 300 mg/mL rather than 150 mg/mL. These results showed that Codonopsis lanceolata extracts with a different number of steaming would be conducted to confirm the possibility of developing antimicrobial and antioxidant. It will be helpful in the study of component analysis of Codonopsis lanceolata extracts processed products.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the association between depression and eating behavior factors in Korean adults. Methods: Study subjects were selected (n = 5,103) from the participants of the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2018 and divided into depression (men, 59; women, 162) and normal groups (men, 2,083; women, 2,799). Subjects with a Patient Health Questionnaire 9 score ≥ 10 (out of 27 points) were defined as having depression. Results: A higher prevalence of depression was observed in both men and women who were unemployed (p < 0.001, p = 0.008), had lower income (both p < 0.001), poorer subjective health (both p < 0.001), and poor food safety (both p < 0.001). The prevalence of depression was higher in women with lower education levels (p = 0.008), who were unmarried (p = 0.010), smokers (p < 0.001), and in a one-person household (p = 0.001). Obese men showed a higher prevalence of depression (p = 0.009). Men who were eating alone or skipping lunch had a high prevalence of depression (p = 0.009), while women who were eating breakfast (p = 0.012), lunch (p = 0.001), and dinner (p = 0.010) alone had a high prevalence of depression. The relationship analysis between men and women according to dietary habits using logistic regression showed that, in women, after variable adjustment, skipping lunch (odds ratio [OR], 2.677; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.090-6.574), meal frequency of 2 times per day (OR, 1.658; 95% CI, 1.084-2.536), and lunch frequency of 3-4 times per week (OR, 3.143; 95% CI, 1.725-5.728) were significantly associated with a higher prevalence of depression. Conclusion: Depression in women was not only affected by more sociodemographic variables but also associated with decreased frequency of lunch and dinner, especially with skipping lunch.

  • The article reflects short-term perspectives on the use of information and communication technologies in the training of teachers for higher education. Education is characterized by conservatism, so aspects of systematic development of the industry are relevant to this cluster of social activity. Therefore, forecasting the introduction of innovative elements of ICT training is in demand for the educational environment. Forecasting educational trends are most relevant exactly in the issues of training future teachers of higher education because these specialists are actually the first to implement the acquired professional skills in pedagogical activities. The article aims to consider the existing potential of ICT-based learning, its implementation in the coming years, and promising innovative educational elements that may become relevant for the educational space in the future. The tasks of scientific exploration are to show the optimal formats of synergy between traditional and innovative models of learning. Based on already existing experience, extrapolation of conditions of educational process organization with modeling realities of using information and communication technologies in various learning dimensions should be carried out. Educational trends for the next 3 years are a rather tentative forecast because, as demonstrated by the events associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the socio-cultural space is very changeable. Consequently, the dynamism of the educational environment dictates the need for a value-based awareness of the information society and the practical use of technological advances. Thus, information and communication technologies are a manifestation of innovative educational strategies of today and become an important component along with traditional aspects of educational process organization. Future higher education teachers should develop a training strategy taking into account the expediency of the ICT component.

  • The purpose of this study is to discuss how Dongi People in ancient societies resided in the region including the Korean Peninsula shaped its economy, what kind of currency was used, and their economic activities using this currency. This study started from a skeptical point of view that the Dongi People were conducting economic activities with the currency used in the country made by the Jina People before and after the Gojoseon society. Currently, in China, all currencies issued in China are treated as their own currency. It is due to subjective interpretation from a nationalist point of view. Japan subjectively interprets and judges from a Japanese point of view and North Korea judges from the central point of view on the Korean Peninsula. This difference is due to the subjective interpretation from the researcher which has been affected by their associating academic area. This has caused the lack of objectivity. In other words, it means that there is a big difference in the perception of the interpretation of history between different academic areas. This study, therefore, tried to avoid the application of biased concept or academic research in order to define the distribution economics more objectively by conducting the study based on the literature sources from Chinese ancient books and field research materials as much as possible, as the study and research conducted based on the domestic sources are insufficient in the sense that there is a gap between different perceptions and interpretations. As a conclusion of this study, the excavation area of Myeong-do-jeon is perfectly consistent with the old river area of Gojoseon, and in particular, considering Gojoseon was in the hostile relationship with Yan, it was found that only Myeong-do-jeon was used without using any other Chinese currency in the entire Gojoseon area, not just some areas. It is also a decisive clue to prove that it is not the Yan currency. The limitation of this study in developing the discussion different from the current research and study is that there was a lack of exploration and investigation of various documents and relics. For future research, this study will become more meaningful when it is conducted simultaneously with the discovering of new documents as well as the relics.

  • In this study, as a basic study to use recycled limestone powder as a secondary product mixture for concrete, it was found that the compressive and flexural strengths were equal to or slightly improved compared to Plain up to 10% and 20% of the RLP mixing ratio, but the strength was rather decreased at 30% mixing. As a result of the heat of hydration experiment, as the RLP mixing rate increased, the heat of hydration decreased, and the elapsed time of the maximum heat was also delayed. As a result of the drying shrinkage test, as the fine powder RLP filled the internal pores of the cement mortar, the drying shrinkage decreased as the mixing rate increased. The compressive strength, water absorption rate, and compressive strength after freezing and thawing of the concrete block mixed with RLP 20% all satisfied the group standard criteria of the Korea Concrete Industry Cooperative Federation, confirming the possibility of use as a mixed material.

  • This study investigates the effect of recovery elasticity of beauty college students on university life adaptation during COVID-19. Further, the mediating effect of grit in relation to recovery elasticity and university life adaptation is analyzed. Survey data of 223 students (female: 192; male: 31) were collected for multiple and intermediate regression analyses using SPSS 24.0. The results reveal a static correlation between the lower factors of resilience, glittery, and adaptation to college life and that the resilience of junior college students in the beauty department had a static effect on grit and their adaptation to college life. Passion, a subordinate factor of grit, is mediated by the effect of grit on the relationship between resilience and adaptation to university life. However, perseverance, another subordinate factor of grit, did not have any such mediating effect. These results confirm the importance of grit, particularly passion, for resilience and adaptation to college life. It was confirmed that resilience was due to college life adaptation of beauty department students, and it was confirmed that passion, a sub-factor of grit, also had a mediating effect. Therefore, it is judged that resilience induces physical and mental adaptation, interpersonal adaptation, and academic adaptation necessary for college life, and works in many ways to improve the quality of life of beauty department junior college students. Instructors should consider developing educational programs for improving recovery elasticity and grit to help students better adapt to university life.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the association between dietary quality based on the Korean Healthy Eating Index (KHEI), and the prevalence of chronic conditions among middle-aged individuals (40-60 yrs of age) living alone. MATERIALS/METHODS: The participants were selected (1,517 men and 2,596 women) from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) 2016-2018 and classified into single-person households (SPH) and multi-person households (MPH). Nutrient intake, KHEI, and the prevalence of chronic conditions were compared according to household size. The odds ratios (ORs) of chronic conditions were analyzed according to the tertile levels of KHEI by gender within each household size category. RESULTS: Men in SPH had a significantly lower total KHEI score (P < 0.0001) and a lower prevalence of obesity (OR, 0.576) than those in MPH. For men, the adjusted ORs for obesity, hypertension, and hypertriglyceridemia in the first tertile (T1) of KHEI scores within SPH compared with the third tertile (T3) were 4.625, 3.790, and 4.333, respectively. Moreover, the adjusted OR for hypertriglyceridemia in the T1 group compared to the T3 group within the MPH was 1.556. For women, the adjusted ORs for obesity and hypertriglyceridemia in T1 compared to T3 within the SPH were 3.223 and 7.134, respectively, and 1.573 and 1.373 for obesity and hypertension, respectively, within MPH. CONCLUSIONS: A healthy eating index was associated with a reduced risk of chronic conditions in middle-aged adults. Greater adherence to a healthy eating index could lower the risk of chronic conditions in middle-aged adults living alone.
