An improvement is introduced to solve the plane problems of linear elasticity by reciprocal theorem for orthotropic materials. This method gives an integral equation with complex kernels which will be solved numerically. An artificial boundary is defined to eliminate the singularities and also an algorithm is introduced to calculate multi-valued complex functions which belonged to the kernels of the integral equation. The chosen sample problem is a plate, having a circular or elliptical hole, stretched by the forces parallel to one of the principal directions of the material. Results are compatible with the solutions given by Lekhnitskii for an infinite plane. Five different orthotropic materials are considered. Stress distributions have been calculated inside and on the boundary. There is no boundary layer effect. For comparison, some sample problems are also solved by finite element method and to check the accuracy of the presented method, two sample problems are also solved for infinite plate.
A number of panoramic radiographic images of the condylar head taken at various horizontal angulations were compared. A small artificial osteophyte was attached to the eight different portions of the condylar head and a small hole was created in four different portions of the condylar head. Three oral and maxillofacial radiologists evaluated the panoramic condylar images. The results were as follows : 1. Osteophytes in the superomedial, anterocentral and anterolateral portions could be detected easily, but those in the lateral, superolateral and medial portions were very hard to identify. 2. The greater the condylar horizontal angle, the easier it was to detect an osteophyte. But there was no statistically significant difference except between 0 and 40 degrees of horizontal angulation. 3. Holes in the anterocentral and superocentral portions could be detected easily, but those in the lateral and medial portions were very hard to identify. There were no differences between the various condylar horizontal angles.
The mechanical structures generally have discontinuous parts such as the cracks, notches and holes owing to various reasons. In this paper, in order to analyze effectively these singularity problems using the finite element method, a mixed analysis method which an analytical solution and finite element solutions are simultaneously used is newly proposed. As the analytical solution is used in the singularity region and the finite element solutions are used in the remaining regions except this singular zone, this analysis method reasonably provides for the numerical solution of a singularity problem. Through various numerical examples, it is shown that the proposed analysis method is very convenient and gives comparatively accurate solution.
The need for non-destructive testing and evaluation of Korean traditional wooden buildings is increasing because of their widespread deterioration. Among all types of deterioration, termite damage in wooden columns is the most difficult to detect with the naked eye because it starts inside the wood, and the initial deterioration is small. X-ray computed tomography (CT) is the best technology to investigate the inner state of wood that has less damage, but applying it to wooden columns between walls is challenging. Therefore, the feasibility of tomosynthesis, which is a method to reconstruct a coronal section of a subject with a few X-ray projections from a limited angle of rotation, was studied as an alternative to CT. Pine (P. densiflora) with three artificial holes was prepared as a specimen to evaluate the quality of reconstructed tomosynthesis images according to the different number of projections. The quality of the tomosynthesis images in the in-focus plane was evaluated using the contrast-to-noise ratios, while a vertical resolution between the images was assessed by determining the artificial spread function. The quality of the tomosynthesis image in the in-focus plane increased as the number of projections increased and then remained constant as the number of projections reached 21 or over. In the case of vertical resolution, there was no significant difference when 21 projections or more were used to reconstruct the images. A distinct difference between coronal section images was found when the distance was more than 10 mm from one plane to another plane.
During the intramedullary nailing procedure, surgeons feel difficulty in manipulation of the X-ray device to align it to axes of nailing holes and suffer from the large radiation exposure from the X-ray device. These problems are caused by the fact the surgeon cannot see the hole's location directly and should use the X-ray device to find the hole's location and direction. In this paper, we proposed the robotic guidance of the distal screwing using an optical tracking system. To track the location of the hole for the distal screwing, the reference marker is attached to the proximal end of an intramedullary nail. To guide the drill's direction robustly, the 6-degree-of-freedom robotic arm is used. The robotic arm is controlled so as to align the drill guiding tool attached the robotic arm with the obtained the hole's location. For the safety, the robot's linear and angular velocities are restricted to the predefined values. The experimental results using the artificial bones showed that the position error and the orientation error were 0.91 mm and $1.64^{\circ}$, respectively. The proposed method is simple and easy to implement, thus it is expected to be adopted easily while reducing the radiation exposure significantly.
This study intended to analyze the grunge look as a mode of expression and as a characteristic of the fashion of the 21st century, arguing that the look expressed not only an outward appearance or sub-culture but also a change in our attitude and spirit about contemporary fashion. In the study, I carried out an empirical analysis focused on the collection from 2001S/S to 2010F/W and a literature review. In my results, I classified the grunge look into the following categories: 1. mix and match layering; 2. patchwork, collages, and assemblage using all objects as well as clothing materials; and 3. distressing techniques, such as bleaching and dyeing, unweaving, and tears and holes. I also classified the characteristics of grunge into the following categories: 1. conspicuous destitution, which is intentionally expressed by skillful techniques and craftsmanship, indicating that modern people want to attract attention and be distinguished from others, which reflects an attitude of superiority through ironic fashion choices; 2. high lighting the dissolution of decoration, where destruction, poverty and recombination shown in the grunge look emerged as an artificial and intentional ugly aesthetic in contrast to the existing elegant and sophisticated image; and 3. satire and playfulness, as grunge expresses alienation and conflict in modern society through satire and sarcasm, not attacking or avoiding, but through playful and sarcastic engagement so as to decrease poverty and give temporary freedom.
The importance of soundness and safety evaluation in weld zone using by the ultrasonic wave has been recently increased rapidly because of the collapses of huge structures and safety accidents. Especially, the ultrasonic method that has been often used for a major non-destructive testing(NDT) technique in many engineering fields plays an important role as a volume test method. Hence, the defecting any defects of weld Bone in austenitic stainless steel type 304 using by ultrasonic wave and neural network is explored in this paper. In order to detect defects, a distance amplitude curve on standard scan sensitivity and preliminary scan sensitivity represented of the relation between ultrasonic probe, instrument, and materials was drawn based on a quantitative standard. Also, a total of 93% of defect types by testing 30 defect patterns after organizing neural network system, which is learned with an accuracy of 99%, based on ultrasonic evaluation is distinguished in order to classify defects such as holes or notches in experimental results. Thus, the proposed ultrasonic wave and neural network is useful for defect detection and Ultrasonic Non-Destructive Evaluation(UNDE) of weld zone in austenitic stainless steel 304.
