In the sequentially rotated array antennas, the characteristics of antenna gain, axial ratio and cross polarization have been analyzed with a varying of sequential array constant(number of array element, figure of rotation) respectively. Where the antenna element of array is a probe feeding, LHCP truncated microstrip antenna whose resonant frequency is in 11.85GHz. The simulation results of 23 SRA antennas((M=2, 3, 4, 6, 8), $(1\leqP\leqM)$) has shown as follows. The widest 3dB bandwidth of axial ratio appears at P=2 which is in-dependant of M, the highest antenna gain appears when a sequential array constant has a pair of (2, 1), (3, 2), (4, 1), (6, 3), (8, 1) respectively. Specially, all of the SRA antenna appear very poor characteristics in case of M=P. Therefore the SRA antenna has to be designed as selecting a optimal sequential array constant among a lot of simulation data.

In this paper, new beam-forming array antenna is proposed. The proposed beam-forming array antenna has control ability for beam-direction/width by employing low loss reconfigurable power divide and three-dimensional array structure. The reconfigurable power divider is key idea in the proposed antenna, because it has reconfigurable RF power distribution ability to each antenna. And, for research and verification of the proposed antenna, 3-dimensional beam-forming array antenna is implemented, and the experimental results show that the proposed antenna has various radiation modes from 1:1 to 1:N by adjusting RF power distribution.

The global positioning system (GPS) is a useful system in civilian and military applications. However, because of the weak signal, GPS receivers are vulnerable to interference caused by unwanted signals or intentional jammers. To alleviate this issue, a controlled reception pattern antenna (CRPA) array can be employed to adaptively place radiation pattern nulls toward the direction of the signal interference. The performance of the CRPA array improves as the number of antenna elements increases. Therefore, antenna miniaturization is highly desirable for CRPA applications. We designed a compact CRPA array based on seven electrically miniaturized microstrip patch antennas (MPAs) on a 5-inch ground platform. We used a non-Foster matching circuit to match efficiently miniaturized MPAs on an FR-4 substrate. Experimental results show that the non-Foster matching circuit significantly improves such elements of antenna performance as return loss and antenna gain. In addition, we confirmed that the mutual coupling of the proposed CRPA array is less than -45 dB.

In this paper, a performance analysis of waveguide broad-wall slot array antenna for millimeter-wave seeker in Ka-band was performed as using near-field measurement. The measurement of slot array antenna was conducted in both far-field and near-field. And the validation of near-field test in millimeter band was confirmed. It was confirmed that the beam pattern characteristics including beam width and side lobe level of the slot array antenna that performed the verification were the same. Differenced in the side lobe level of azimuth and elevation beam pattern were verified to be less than 1dB. Additionally, the new antenna aperture distribution was extracted as using back-projection method modifying the near-field data and then introduced the method conducting performance analysis of array antenna.

The target must be located within the main-lobe of the antenna in order to measure the direction of the target by using sum-delta monopulse technique. The most common way if the target is located within the main-lobe is to compare the amplitude of the sum channel received signal with the delta channel received signal. However, in the case of the single-ring circular array antenna, it is difficult to apply the conventional method due to its structural limitation where antenna elements do not exist in the center of the array. In this paper, we proposed a novel method to identify whether a target is located within the main-lobe by appropriately adjusting the feeding amplitude of each element constituting the single-ring circular array antenna through the particle swarm optimization method. Simulation results showed that the proposed method can determine whether the target is located within the main-lobe of the single-ring circular array antenna.

We report the performance of a four-element, 11.67 GHz, high-Tc superconducting (HTS) microstrip antenna array with corporate feed network and circular polarization for direct broadcasting satellite (DBS) system. Our array antennas were designed and built on a 0.5 mm thick MgO substrate. To compare the superconducting antennas with normal conducting counterpart, One antenna pattern was fabricated from gold thin film, and a second pattern was fabricated from $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ (YBCO) superconducting thin film. To improve the axial ratio of circularly polarized arrays, sequential rotation technique were used. Efficiency, radiation pattern, return loss and bandwidth were measured for both antennas at room temperature and at cryogenic temperature. The array produced good circular polarization, and the gain of the array at 77 K, relative to a copper array at room temperature was approximately 1.54 dB. The measured return loss of our HTS antenna array was 35.79 dB at the resonant frequency of 11.67 GHz and The total effective bandwidth was about 3.4 %. The results showed that high-temperature superconductors, when used in microstrip arrays, improved the efficiency of the HTS antenna array for circularly polarization.

The Angle-of-Arrival(AOA) information for an array antenna receiver is one of the important factors for estimating the location of specific signals and detecting signals efficiently, in various situations. The AOA estimator in the satellite environment can rapidly calculate the AOA information in the wide area, utilizing a planar (grid, circular) array antenna mounted on the satellite. Since the satellite receiver has the limitation of the array antenna size, the concentric circular (ring) array (CCA or CRA) antenna structure with comparatively small size but with multiple antenna elements is more efficient than the uniform circular array (UCA) structure, for the satellite environment. In this paper, we introduce a cascade AOA estimation algorithm based on CRA, consisting of CAPON and Beamspace MUSIC. In addition, we provide computer simulation examples for verifying the estimation performance of the cascade AOA estimation algorithm based on CRA and compare it to the case of UCA.

A compact and broadband $4\times1$ array antenna was developed for 3G smart antenna system testbed. The $4\times1$ uniform linear away antenna was designed to operate at 1.885 to 2.2GHz with a total bandwidth of 315MHz. The array elements were based on the novel broadband L-probe fed inverted hybrid E-H (LIEH) shaped microstrip patch, which offers 22% size reduction to the conventional rectangular microstrip patch antenna. For steering the antenna beam, a commercial variable attenuator (KAT1D04SA002), a variable phase shifter (KPH350SC00) with four units each, and the corporate 4-ways Wilkinson power divider which was fabricated in-house were integrated to form the beamforming feed network. The developed antenna has an impedance bandwidth of 17.32% $(VSWR\leq1.5)$, 21.78% $(VSWR\leq2)$ with respect to center frequency 2.02GHz and with an achievable gain of 11.9dBi. The design antenna offer a broadband, compact and mobile solution for a 3G smart antenna testbed to fully characterized the IMT-2000 radio specifications and system performances.

X-Band taper slot-typed active phased array antenna is studied and designed. Through the simulated and measured performances, it is confirmed that both of active reflection coefficient and active radiation pattern of the designed phased array antenna are agreed well with those of the prototype manufactured one. From this study, the proposed antenna structure is matched to the design target of characteristics of antenna's broadband beam.

This paper describes an advanced compensation for non-linear functions designed to remove steering aberrations from phased array antennas. This system alters the steering command applied to the antenna in a way that the appropriate angle commands are given to the array steering software for the antenna to point to the desired position instead of squinting. Artificial neural networks are used to develop the inverse function necessary to correct the aberration. Also a straightforward antenna steering function is implemented with neural networks for the 9-term polynomials of forward steering function. In all cases the aberration is removed resulting in small RMS angular errors across the operational angle space when the actual antenna position is compared with the desired position. The use of neural network model provides a method of producing a non-linear system that can correct antenna performance and demonstrates the feasibility of generating an inverse steering algorithm.
