A Seismic Behavior of a 3-dimensional Irregular Setback Structure (3차원 비정형 Setback 구조물의 지진 거동)

  • Seismic behavior of 3-dimensional setback structures showing abrupt reductions of the floor size within the structure height and the effect of in-plane deformations of floor slabs on the seismic behavior of those structures are investigated. To find out general seismic behavior of 3-dimensional setback structures two parameters, level of setback(L/sub s/) and degree of setback(R/sub s/) are used. Analysis results obtained from forty eight setback structures show that a sudden change in story shear near setback level is occurred for irregular setback structures. The effect of in-plane deformation of floor slabs on the seismic behavior of setback structures is greatly influenced by the arrangement of lateral load resisting elements and it is more pronounced for frame-shear wall system showing large difference in stiffness among the lateral load resisting elements. The in-plane deformation of floor slabs results in reduced base shear, especially for FW-type structures with L/sub s/=1.0. Also, it brings about reduced story shear for the lateral load resisting element with shear wall and increase in story shear lot the lateral load resisting element without shear wall. The in-plane deformation of floor slabs at the base portion and/or tower portion due to difference in stiffness among the lateral load resisting elements brings about increment of floor displacements at all floor level.

The New X-ray Induced Electron Emission Spectrometer

  • The new spectrometer for X-ray Induced Electron Emission Spectroscopy (XIEES) .has been recently developed in KRISS in collaboration with PTI (Russia). The spectrometer allows to perform research using the XAFS, SXAFS, XANES techniques (D.C.Koningsberger and R.Prins, 1988) as well as the number of techniques from XIEES field(L.A.Bakaleinikov et all, 1992). The experiments may be carried out with registration of transmitted through the sample x-rays (to investigate bulk samples) or/and total electron yield (TEY) from the sample surface that gives the high (down to several atomic mono-layers in soft x-ray region) near surface sensitivity. The combination of these methods together give the possibility to obtain a quantitative information on elemental composition, chemical state, atomic structure for powder samples and solids, including non-crystalline materials (the long range order is not required). The optical design of spectrometer is made according to Johannesson true focusing schematics and presented on the Fig.1. Five stepping motors are used to maintain the focusing condition during the photon energy scan (crystal angle, crystal position along rail, sample goniometer rail angle, sample goniometer position along rail and sample goniometer angle relatively of rail). All movements can be done independently and simultaneously that speeds up the setting of photon energy and allows the using of crystals with different Rowland radil. At present six curved crystals with different d-values and one flat synthetic multilayer are installed on revolver-type monochromator. This arrangement allows the wide range of x-rays from 100 eV up to 25 keV to be obtained. Another 4 stepping motors set exit slit width, sample angle, channeltron position and x-ray detector position. The differential pumping allows to unite vacuum chambers of spectrometer and x-ray generator avoiding the absorption of soft x-rays on Be foil of a window and in atmosphere. Another feature of vacuum system is separation of walls of vacuum chamber (which are deformed by the atmospheric pressure) from optical elements of spectrometer. This warrantees that the optical elements are precisely positioned. The detecting system of the spectrometer consists of two proportional counters, one scintillating detector and one channeltron detector. First proportional counter can be used as I/sub 0/-detector in transmission mode or by measuring the fluorescence from exit slit edge. The last installation can be used to measure the reference data (that is necessary in XANES measurements), in this case the reference sample is installed on slit knife edge. The second proportional counter measures the intensity of x-rays transmitted through the sample. The scintillating detector is used in the same way but on the air for the hard x-rays and for alignment purposes. Total electron yield from the sample is measured by channeltron. The spectrometer is fully controlled by special software that gives the high flexibility and reliability in carrying out of the experiments. A Study on the Planning Characteristics of Training Facilities Complex - Focusing on Training Facilities Planned through the Domestic Competitions after 2000s - (연수시설 단지의 계획특성 연구 - 2000년대 이후 국내 현상공모를 통해 계획된 연수시설을 중심으로 -)

  • Planning and designing training facilities has been developed from educational facilities, and increasingly diversified society has raised a need for facilities dedicated to training and education in a differentiated space separate from the one for regular works. This particular need of our times has led to the expansion of training facilities nationwide although they have something to be desired when it comes to planning and designing with sustainability associated with the locational characteristics of urban space as well as the unique types of facilities taken into account. Against this backdrop, this study will examined a variety of training facilities that have been established since 2000 through theoretical review and conduct intensive analysis on the characteristics of the planning aspects to suggest their significance and implications and to present the overall meanings and ramifications of planning approaches in consideration of new challenges modern training facilities are faced with, which have been revealed through architectural design competitions in recent years. The relevant implications are as follows. First, one of the locational advantages of training facilities, which is commanding beautiful scenery of the surrounding area, can be considered as intent to stress the aspect of a resort, one of the functions of any training facilities. As this study has demonstrated, many training facilities are located near around a beach or a lake. Second, training facilities can be classified into three different types in terms of their location: urban, suburban and resort and such locational characteristics are directly related to intended programs and differentiated links with target users. Third, the architectural styles of training institutes are differentiated in terms of harmonious arrangement between beautiful natural scenery and buildings in consideration of the layout characteristics of major facilities and the distance of ramps in and out of the facilities along with architectural features, including the transparency of building elevation and the type of slopes of roof structure. Fourth, the individual lodging buildings feature a variety of types depending on the design concept with different roles depending on the directional aspects such as the connection of ramps and the relations with the outside. Fifth, outdoor space plans are differentiated according to the intended purpose of training facilities. When it comes to gym facilities, for example, different outdoor space plans are found to be made depending on the original design concept such as outdoor playground-centered planning or golf facilities.

A Taxonomic Study on Korean Allium L. Based on the Morphological Characters (형태학적 형질에 기초한 한국산 부추속의 분류학적 연구)

  • For 20 taxa of Korean Allium, including 16 species and 5 varieties, examined were morphological characters (i.e. sexuality, structure and shape of underground part, types and growing patterns of leaf and scape, and shapes of perianth, filament and pistil). The specialization and the evolutionary trends of taxonomic characters were inferred from morphological examination. Taxonomic relationships and system of Korean Allium were also studied. The characters showing evolutionary trends were the structure and shape of underground part including rhizome and bulb, leaf, scape, inflorescens, filament and ovary. It seemed that thin and short rhizome developed from thick and long one, and the membranous simple bulb tunic evolved into fibrous reticulate one. The presence of hyaline sheath in A. monanthum of sect. Microscordum was apomorphic. Both angular leaf blade with 2-rowed vascular bundle and flat blade with 1-rowed vascular bundle were developed from terete one with 2-rowed vascular bundle. The base of filament have differentiated from entire to toothed, and 2-ovuled ovary as well as erect scape before flowering was plesiomorphic type. In addition, sexuality, structure of underground part, the presence of hyaline sheath and cross-section structure of leaf were taxonomic characters with the level of the subgenus in this genus. Shape of rhizome, bulb, leaf, scape and pedicel discriminated each section from other ones in the subgenera easily. The shape and arrangement of perianth and filaments were the diagnostic characters for species level along with shape of ovary and stigma.

Synthesis, Characterization and ESR Studies of New Copper(II) Complexes of Vicinal Oxime Ligands (Vicinal Oxime 리간드의 새로운 구리(II) 착물에 대한 합성, 특성 및 ESR 연구)

  • Ethoxylacetyl oxime ligands [HL, (1) and $H_2L^1$, (3)] react with copper(II) acetate monohydrate yield octahedral and square planar complexes, respectively. The complexes have been postulated due to elemental analyses, IR, UVVis. spectra, magnetic susceptibility, conductivity and ESR spectra. Molar conductance of the complexes in DMF indicates a non-ionic character. The ESR spectra of [$(L)_2Cu(H_2O)_2$], (2) complex at room temperature and 77K are characteristic of an axial symmetry ($d_{x2-y2}$) with covalent bond character and have a large line width typical of dipolar interactions. However, [$(L^1)Cu$], (4) complex in the solid state showed spectra of marked broadening and loss of hyperfine splitting confirming spinexchange interactions between the copper(II) sites. The spectrum of the doped copper(II) complex at room temperature showed super-hyperfine splitting from coordinated nitrogen atoms and it has an axial type ($d_{x2-y2}$) with covalent bond character and an essentially square-planar arrangement around the copper(II) ion. The spectrum of [$(L^1)Cu$], (4) in frozen methanol at 77K was characteristic of the triplet state of a dimer species and the distance found between the two copper(II) centers was calculated and is equal to 4.8 ${\AA}$.

Needle Characteristics and Genetic Variation of Pinus pumila Natural Population in Mt. Seorak (설악산 눈잣나무 천연집단의 침엽특성과 유전변이)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the morphological and anatomical characteristics of needle and the genetic diversity of Pinus pumila Regel which is a unique and the southern peripheral population in South Korea. ANOVA test showed that there were significant differences among individuals within population in all 8 needle characteristics. Average characteristics of 66 individuals were 53.59 mm in needle length, 0.78 mm in needle width, 68.98 in needle index, 0.65 mm in needle thickness, 4.56 ea. in maximum stomata row, 3.80 ea. in minimum stomata row, 8.36 ea. in total stomata row and 1.71 ea. in resin canals, respectively. Resin canal per needle of this species ranged from one to three, depending on external type. Especially, arrangement types were 69.47% in two resin canals and 30.45% in a single resin canal. A total of 78 bands was generated from 9 selected I-SSR primers. The estimates of genetic variation were 61.5% in proportion of polymorphic bands (P), 1.698 in effective number of alleles ($A_e$), 0.388 in expected heterozygosity ($H_e$) and 0.567 in Shannon's information index (S.I.), respectively.

Studies on the Mechanism of Nonastringency and Production of Tannin in Persimmon Fruits -II. Microscopic Observation of Tannin Cells in Persimmon Fruits during Growth- (감과실(果實)의 탄닌물질(物質)의 생성(生成) 및 탈삽기구(脫澁機構)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) -제2보 : 탄닌 세포(細胞)의 현미경적 관찰-)

  • In order to clarify the removal of astringency in persimmon fruits (Diospyros koki L.) and its mechanism, a comparative histology of tannin cells in tile cultivars of astringent persimmon fruits (Sangju Dungsi. Daegu Bansi. Cheongdo Bansi) and a sweet persimmon fruit (Fuyu) was observed. Tannin cells were widespread in all fruits tissue expert for tissue of ovule before full blossom. The epidermal cells of ovary. flower and calyx consist of tannin cell. Arrangement of tannin cells has radiated type toward the upper directions in the calyx. The major part of seed coat consisted of tannin cells. The epidermal cells of persimmon fruits were consisted of small tannin cells, and the inner part of epicarp of the astringent persimmon was consisted of stone cells, but the sweet persimmon was consisted of parenchymatous cells. It was suggested that differantiation of tannin cell In persimmon fruits occured until about the middle of August. Some tannin cells of matured astringent persimmon fruits was coagulated and wall of tannin cell produced protuberance, and most of tannin cells of matured sweet persimmon fruits was coagulated or ruptured.

Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Behavior of [4-{4'-(Nitrophenylazo)phenoxycarbonyl}]alkanoated Celluloses ([4-{4'-(니트로페닐아조)펜옥시카보닐}]알카노화 셀룰로오스들의 열방성 액정 거동)

  • The thermotropic liquid crystalline behavior of the homologous series of cellulose tri[4-{4'-(nitrophenylazo) phenoxycarbonyl}] alkanoates (NACEn, n=2$\sim$8, 10, the number of methylene units in the spacer) have been investigated. All of the homologoues formed monotropic nematic phases. The isotropic-nematic transition temperature ($T_{iN}$) decreased when n is increased up to 7, but it became almost constant when n is more than 7. The plot of transition entropy at $T_{iN}$ against n had a sharp negative inflection at n=7. The sharp change at n=7 may be attributed to the difference in arrangement of the side groups. The melting temperature ($T_m$) and associated entropy change at $T_m$, in contrast with $T_{iN}$ and associated entropy change at $T_{iN}$, exhibited a distinct odd-even effect, suggesting that the average shape of the side chains in the crystalline phase is different from that in the nematic phase. The thermal stability and degree of order of the nematic phase observed for NACEn were significantly different from those reported for the homologous series of side-chain and combined type liquid crystal polymers bearing azobenzene or biphenyl units in the side chains. The results were discussed in terms of the differences in the chemical structure, the flexibility of the main chain, the mode of chemical linkage of the side group with the main chain, and the number of the mesogenic units per repeating unit.

A Study on the Application of Design Components of 3D Greenery System for Eco-Friendly Indoor and Outdoor Space of Buildings (건축물 내외부의 친환경 구성을 위한 입체녹화의 부문별 디자인 적용요소에 관한 연구)

  • As the 3D Greenery system is known to improve the urban environment, it works as new alternative for eco-friendly building and warrants further study for application to the domestic field. This study aimed to apply the design components for eco-friendly composition by investigating the spatial characteristics of the 3D Greenery System reflected in interior and exterior of buildings and to analyze the organization and design elements of domestic and foreign cases. The results showed that instances of the Greenery System tended to be a large scale and high-density development in order to expand various exterior spaces. Although its early forms were often found in such public facilities as exhibition and education purpose, cases of multi-unit dwelling have been growing. Allowing apartment residents to prefer intimate space by providing various such spaces for residential units and offering independent green spaces would induce diverse residents' lifestyles rather than monotonous design. The analysis also indicated that community space composed of various outdoor spaces and atmosphere would change life patterns of multi-housing and establish a real neighborhood through social interaction. Moreover, further investigation of the design patterns of outdoor space arrangement is needed since the Greenery system actively reflects the environmental characteristics of building sites and clearly shows a tendency to utilize natural terrain and slope in building shapes.

ᴅ-Xylose as a sugar complement regulates blood glucose levels by suppressing phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCK) in streptozotocin-nicotinamide-induced diabetic rats and by enhancing glucose uptake in vitro

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is more frequently diagnosed and is characterized by hyperglycemia and insulin resistance. $\small{D}$-xylose, a sucrase inhibitor, may be useful as a functional sugar complement to inhibit increases in blood glucose levels. The objective of this study was to investigate the anti-diabetic effects of $\small{D}$-xylose both in vitro and stretpozotocin (STZ)-nicotinamide (NA)-induced models in vivo. MATERIALS/METHODS: Wistar rats were divided into the following groups: (i) normal control; (ii) diabetic control; (iii) diabetic rats supplemented with a diet where 5% of the total sucrose content in the diet was replaced with $\small{D}$-xylose; and (iv) diabetic rats supplemented with a diet where 10% of the total sucrose content in the diet was replaced with $\small{D}$-xylose. These groups were maintained for two weeks. The effects of $\small{D}$-xylose on blood glucose levels were examined using oral glucose tolerance test, insulin secretion assays, histology of liver and pancreas tissues, and analysis of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCK) expression in liver tissues of a STZ-NA-induced experimental rat model. Levels of glucose uptake and insulin secretion by differentiated C2C12 muscle cells and INS-1 pancreatic ${\beta}$-cells were analyzed. RESULTS: In vivo, $\small{D}$-xylose supplementation significantly reduced fasting serum glucose levels (P < 0.05), it slightly reduced the area under the glucose curve, and increased insulin levels compared to the diabetic controls. $\small{D}$-xylose supplementation enhanced the regeneration of pancreas tissue and improved the arrangement of hepatocytes compared to the diabetic controls. Lower levels of PEPCK were detected in the liver tissues of $\small{D}$-xylose-supplemented rats (P < 0.05). In vitro, both 2-NBDG uptake by C2C12 cells and insulin secretion by INS-1 cells were increased with $\small{D}$-xylose supplementation in a dose-dependent manner compared to treatment with glucose alone. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, $\small{D}$-xylose exerted anti-diabetic effects in vivo by regulating blood glucose levels via regeneration of damaged pancreas and liver tissues and regulation of PEPCK, a key rate-limiting enzyme in the process of gluconeogenesis. In vitro, $\small{D}$-xylose induced the uptake of glucose by muscle cells and the secretion of insulin cells by ${\beta}$-cells. These mechanistic insights will facilitate the development of highly effective strategy for T2D.
