This study was carried out to produce Reference Materials (RMs) for Proficiency Testing (PT) of PCBs in waste analytical laboratories. Two RMs were prepared from used transformer oil samples and PCB free transformer oil by spiking PCBs standard solutions. The spiked PCB RMs were homogenized by mixing and settling up to 90 days. Homogenized concentration of PCBs with Arochlor 1254 (6 ppm), 1254:1260 (1:1) (5 ppm) were observed in 60 days stationary phase but Arochlor 1260 (3.5 mg/L) were observed in 90 days stationary phase. One-way ANOVA test were carried out and showed that the RMs were suitably homogenized, which can be used for proficiency testing. The Relative Standard Deviations (RSDs) of analytical results were 3.51~5.01% for the PCBs RMs in 10 replicates. The expanded uncertainty of PCBs analytical procedure were 0.26~0.49.

Nicotine (100 .mu. M) was incubated with microsomes (1 mg/ml) prepared from New Zealand White rabbits. On the basis of microsomal weight, the rate of nicotine oxidation were calculated on the basis of cytochrome P-450 concentration, the specific activity of the metabolic oxidation catalyzed by lung was approximately 4 times greater than liver (6.4 vs 1, 65 nmoles nicotine oxidized. nmole cytochrome $P-450^{-1}\;min{-1})$. These studies employed several methods of altering activities of specific isozymes present in pulmonary microsomes, including the use of the isozyme2 and 6 specific inhibitor $\alpha$-methylbenzyl ABT, metabolite inhibitors, norbenzphetamine and N-hydroxyamphetamine. TCDD induction and Arochlor 1260 pretreatment. These results support the conclusion that nicotine metabolism by rabbit lung microsomes is mediated primarily by cytochrome P-450 isozyme 2.

The residue levels of total PCBs in the surface samples were detected low concentration compared to the coastal area in Korea, and the PCBs pattern were very similarly to the arochlor mixture(1016+1232+1248+1260). The selected area divided into three area(Kanghwa:A, Yellow:B and Jangdo:C) by depending on the chlorine ratio. The PCBs were mainly detected dichlorinated and trichlorinated biphenyls in far sea, and heptachlorinated and octachlorinated biphenyls in the near the Incheon coastal area. The residue levels of PCBs were detected 0.72${\sim}$9.20 ng/g in the surface samples, 1.60~3.00 ng/g for Kanghwa and 0.34~9.20 ng/g for Jangdo in the core samples, and the PCBs concentration increased from bottom to top.
