Areas around of National Park have been severed eco-corridor of wildlife due to urban expansion and development. Habitats have been fragmented into small pieces. Habitat fragmentation reduces the biodiversity of organisms because the exchange loss and inbreeding of wild fauna and flora. The main cause of the fragmentation of ecological networks in areas around of Moodeungsan National Park are are that the cemetery, cutting of mountain, roads, public parking lots, mountain encroachment by land, urban infrastructure, electric transmission towers, urban area. Area around of National Park must be equipped with ecological networks through an ecological design that can communicate with each other in the national park and urban areas.
In this study, a numerical model developed for sunshine duration based on GIS data was used. This model considers blocking caused by topography and buildings and it is properly applicable to evaluation of sunshine duration environment in urban areas. The model reasonably well predicted the solar altitude and azimuth angels, compared to those provided by Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI). The developed model was applied to evaluation of sunshine duration environment around the Seonleung Park located near a building-congested area in Seoul. The model well reproduced shadow caused by buildings and/or topography in the numerical domain at 09:00 on August 1, 2015. In addition, the model was applied to finding a suitable measurement sites for pyrheliometer around the Seonleung Park. The model was also usefully applied to finding a suitable site for pyrheliometer in an urban area.

In this study, chemical characteristics of groundwater around carcass burial areas and those in agricultural and livestock-farming complex areas in South Korea were monitored. Groundwater samples were collected from 166 wells around carcass burial sites and 466 wells around the agricultural areas where carcass burial sites are absent. The chemical parameters (pH, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, oxidation reduction potential, $NO_3$-N, $NH_4$-N, and $Cl^-$) in carcass burial areas and agricultural areas were similar. The $NO_3$-N concentrations exhibited minimal seasonal fluctuations below $30mg\;L^{-1}$ in most of the wells, even in the wells located close to the carcass burial sites; and $Cl^-$ concentrations also showed similar patterns. The chemical characteristics of groundwater monitored in this study indicated that groundwater was widely contaminated by agricultural activities and livestock farming, but probably not by leachates derived from nearby carcass burial sites.
The hydro-acoustic method is widely used for estimating biomass and distribution of fisheries resources along the coast and in the ocean. High costs and time are necessary to construct systems for this method and to initially educate specialists. It has been used in fisheries of advanced nations like Japan and Norway, because it is more efficient than other methods. In order to research the behavior of fish around an artificial reef using an echo sounder, volume backscattering strength (SV) and fish per cubic meter (FPCM) of darkbanded rockfish around the model artificial reef in a water tank were measured. Moreover, behavior of fish was observed in an adjacent artificial reef, which was constructed at Tongyeong marine ranching area. Following that, an acoustics survey was conducted at Mirukdo around the Tongyeong marine ranching area, in order to understand the spatial distribution and strength of fisheries resources. Very high patches of fish were found in a wide area around the artificial reef. It is thought that an approaching fish school around the artificial reef can be measured accurately by using an echo sounder of high resolution. Moreover, use of other monitoring methods like of diving or ROV simultaneous with an echo sounder is required in order to grasp the species and ecology of fish inhabiting the area around the artificial reef.

This thesis studied effects of the excavation around railroads on the deformation of the lateral ground and neighboring railroads. The conclusions of the study are as follows. 1. When the depth of excavationis 10m, the influential area should be 35m for soft clay, 20m for normal clay, 15m for hard clay, 15m for loose sand, 12m for slightly dense sand, and 8m for dense sand. 2. When the influential area is 10m, the allowable excavation depth should be 2.5m for soft clay, 4.8m for normal clay, 7.5m for hard clay, 7.2m for loose sand, 8.8m for slightly dense sand, and 10m for dense sand. 3. When the influential area is 20m, the allowable excavation depth should be 4.5m for soft clay, and up to 10m for the other five kinds of soil. 4. When the influential area is 30m, the allowable excavation depth should be 7.5m for soft clay, and up to 10m for the other five kinds of soil. 5. When the influential area is 35m, the allowable excavation depth should be up to 10m for all kinds of soil.
This study was conducted to identify the road effect on small rodent populations within fragmented forest areas around the road from June to September 2002, in 9 study sites of Baekdugdaegan mountains, Korea. Two species of small rodents, Korean field mouse Apodemus peninsulae and striped field mouse Apodemus agrarius, were captured in this study. Korean field mouse preferred forest area, and striped field mouse generally has been found edge area around road. Mean body weight of Korean field mouse was significantly different, but that of striped field mouse was not between both distance from road. Korean field mouse is forest-dwelling species and their distribution is limited in forest area. In contrast, striped field mouse has wide distributional range around road. The effects of road is different in each small rodent species and their habitat preferences.

The Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is located in Fukuoka and extends over an area of 540 ha. This Park is directly developed and managed mainly by the national government for its use for recreational facilities serving a wide area. It is planned and developed as an urban resort-type park, exploiting the rich natural environment of the area, to serve urban residents in northern Kyushu. The management of the Park is jointly conducted by nine bodies, including the national government and private enterprises. The Park has several functions, ranging form an urban resort to conservation of the natural environment and education. The Park has so far been positively evaluated by its visitors. However, the social background for the Park is changing and the park is now facing changing needs for this type of park, necessitating coordination with the development around the Park and a need to respond to the recent fiscal structural reform. Further improvement of the visitor services and the reconfirmation of the government's role in the development work are essential for the maintenance and enhancement of that attractions of this Park in the coming years.
This study was performed to provide important basic data for the preservation and management of Scopura laminata, a species endemic to Korea, by elucidating the spatial characteristics of its present, potential, and future distribution areas. Currently, this species is found in the Odaesan National Park area of South Korea and has been known to be restricted in its habitat due to its poor mobility, as even fully grown insects do not have wings. Utilizing the MaxEnt model, 20 collection points around Odaesan National Park were assessed to analyze and predict spatial distribution characteristics. The precision of the MaxEnt model was excellent, with an AUC value of 0.833. Variables affecting the potential distribution area of S. laminata by more than 10% included the range of annual temperature, seasonality of precipitation, and precipitation of the driest quarter, in order of greatest to least impact. Compared to the current potential distribution area, no significant difference in the overall habitable area was predicted for the 2050s or 2070s. It was, however, demonstrated that the potential habitable area would be reduced in the 2050s by up to 270.3 km from the current area of 403.9 km; further, no potential habitable area was anticipated by the 2070s according to our predictive model. Taken together, it is anticipated that this endemic species could be significantly affected by climate changes, and hence effective countermeasures are strongly warranted for the preservation of habitats and species management.
Visitor's impact on environmental deterioration of and around trail was studied in Hallasan National Park, Korea in 1990. Width of tread and width of bareland beside trail were correlative positively to user's density, negatively to height of vegetation and slope, respectively. Depth of tread was correlative highly to width of tread and width of bareland beside trail. Areal deterioration by visitors almost took place on subalpine zone. Total damaged area was kestimated to be 121, 000$m^2$ and the damaged area more severe than impact rating class 4 reached about 72.000$m^2$, respectively. Ten types of deterioration of and around trail were discovered and total volume of erosion to be recovered was estimated to be about 62.000$m^2$.
