  • Archival appraisal is a key area of archival science. This study aims to identify the knowledge structure of archival appraisal and propose appropriate translation terms. To this end, 34 entry terms related to archival appraisal were first extracted from 146 entries in the Encyclopedia of Archival Science, a leading encyclopedia in the field, and terminologies were categorized based on content analysis. Second, the contents described in the entries were assessed for each category, and the main concepts and flow of discussions were also examined. Third and last, suitable translations for each entry term were presented, and considerations were suggested for the translations, such as the application of appropriate principles of equivalence. Specifically, terms such as "records appraisal" and "archival appraisal" were recommended to be used separately.

In connection with the efforts most public institutions have already started adopting the electronic document management system(EDMS), and have entered in a phase of modification of, and supplement to the system for the flow of the electronic documents among the agencies to be made possible by the month of November this year. The present situation is that the modification and supplement of EDMS are underway in the field that is unrelated to the records and archival management, what has been foreseen in the academic world of archival science. Under this circumstances the article places emphasis on the importance of the positive participation of the archivists in the development of the EDMS. To be concrete it reveals how the archival achievements can be practically applicable to the EDMS. What is particularly conspicuous in the article is the detailed description of how usefully control of record production, classification and description, evaluation and selection that are put into practice in the archival management law can be embodied in the development of the EDMS. Finally the article put emphasis on the positive exchanges and integration to bring the archival management science and computer science, archival management law and electronic government law, the archival management agencies and the agencies in charge of the electronic government together into whole to find a way for the methodical achievements of scientific archival management to be positively applicable to the electronic document management system(EDMS).

  • Folklife archival science(folklife: Folklore is generally used in Engish-speaking countries but it has a strong meaning as remnants of former times. That's why I am useing the term-folklife instead of folklore in this paper. I think folklife is more appropriate term for expressing studies on daily life culture and also my intention to unite the both word in this paper) is a new academic movement, I propose, which is intended on convergence of advantage of folklife and archival science. In other words, taking advantage of the two branches of study(folklife, archival science), it becomes a practical studies which systematically organize records, preservations and application on living culture in any community. It demonstrate deeply on archiving and archive and It conducts a probe into records, preservations and applications. It is a method of technical study in order to record communities like village, rural society and modern city. In the mean time, there is no well defined and established methodology for archival science and for folk-area or community archiving. And therefore, It needs a research methodology in a folklife. In the other hand, there is a lack of a theoretical basis, methodological strategy and clear vision over folklife and field survey or method of survey. Therefore, converging advatage of the two studies(folklife, archival science), we can combine professionalism of community archiving and methodological strategy together.

  • Recently Australian records system is been attention in archival area. We can recognize there are two reasons in it. Because it suggested DIRKS that is a development methodology of electronic records management system and the other hands it introduced the concept of functional provenance which overcomes the previous organizational one. It has very special meaning in Korea that have high level on IT industry in the world. Korean records management system succeeded to a certain extent but still has limitation on the application of description standards or metadata standards. This paper is going to introduce DIRKS, is the one of development methodology of Australian system, and try to apply it practically. Therefore, it will be helpful to people can easily understand DIRKS and it will add more explanation for practical operation.

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal the context within which EAD was developed, to review the elements and the structure of EAD 1.0 version and to introduce EAD as new standard for encoded archival finding aids in Korea. Encoded Archival Description(EAD) has been developed in 1993 in order to facilitate exchange of ISAD(G) descriptive information. EAD is currently administered and maintained jointly by the Society of American Archivists and the United States Library of Congress. While development was initiated in the United Stares, international interest and contribution are increasing. EAD is a encoding standard designed specifically for marking up information contained in archival finding aids. From its inception, EAD was based on SGML, and, with the release of EAD version 1.0 in 1998, it is also compliant with XML in order to facilitate easier internet access to SGML-encoded finding aids. EAD is the first tool to preserve the multilevel and hierarchical description manifest in finding aids by providing structures in which to describe entire record collections and increasingly smaller subcomponents thereof such as series, subseries, folders, and even items. Archival institutions can form a EAD consortium and also create a union database of EAD finding aids for the geographically dispersed collections. The EAD DTD provides a flexible way for archives to convert finding aids that exist in paper form into electronic documents or to create new finding aids in electronic form.

  • In the era of digital transformation, new technologies have begun to be applied in the field of records management, away from the traditional view that emphasized the existing institutional and administrative aspects. Therefore, this study analyzed the service status of archives, libraries, and museums applied with advanced intelligent technology and identified the differences. Then, we proposed how to apply intelligent archival information services based on the analysis results. The reason for including libraries and museums in the research is that they are covered by a single category as an information service provider. To achieve our study aims, we conducted literature and case studies. Based on the results of the case study, we proposed the application strategies of intelligent archival information services. The results of this study are expected to help develop intelligent archival service models that are suitable for the changed electronic records environment.
