Low-power Scheduling Framework for Heterogeneous Architecture under Performance Constraint

  • Today's computer systems are widely integrated with CPU and GPU to achieve considerable performance, but energy consumption of such system directly affects operational cost, maintainability and environmental problem, which has been aroused wide concern by researchers, computer architects, and developers. To cope with energy problem, we propose a task-scheduling framework to reduce energy under performance constraint by rationally allocating the tasks across the CPU and GPU. The framework first collects the estimated energy consumption of programs and performance information. Next, we use above information to formalize the scheduling problem as the 0-1 knapsack problem. Then, we elaborate our experiment on typical platform to verify proposed scheduling framework. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithm saves 14.97% energy compared with that of the time-oriented policy and yields 37.23% performance improvement than that of energy-oriented scheme on average.

  • MANPro-based control is a novel control paradigm aimed at intelligent manufacturing systems on the basis of mobile agent-based negotiation process (MANPro). MANPro is a negotiation mechanism based on the agent-based control architecture and, especially, it adapts a mobile agent system called N-agent for the negotiation process. N-agent travels around the network of distributed manufacturing systems to acquire information, and it makes a decision for system control according to the obtained information. MANPro includes communication architecture and information architecture for intelligent shop floor control. MANPro also considers the following issues: (1) negotiation mechanism, (2) single-agent internal strategic policies, and (3) information model. Communication architecture concerns the first issue of the negotiation mechanism. It provides information exchanging mechanism with functional modules. In specific, N-agent is equipped with an intelligent reasoning engine with a built-in knowledge base. This reasoning engine is closely related to the single-agent internal strategic policies of the second issue. Finally, ontology-based information architecture addresses information models and provides a framework for information modeling on negotiation. In this paper, these three issues are addressed in detail and a framework of MANPro-based control is also proposed.

엔터프라이즈 자원의 정렬, 통합 및 상호운용성을 위한 능력기반 EA2I프레임워크의 수학적 모델에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Mathematical Model of Capability based EA Framework for Align, Integration and Interoperability of Enterprise Resource)

  • 최근 각국은 복잡하고 변화가 많은 안보 환경 하에서 국방 예산의 효율성과 작전의 효과성을 극대화하기 위해 능력기반 전력 건설 및 운용에 집중하고 있다. EA는 엔터프라이즈 범위의 구성요소를 정의하고 그들 간의 관계를 제시함으로서, 엔터프라이즈 범위의 관점을 통합하고, 변화와 복잡도등을 관리한다. 따라서 전장의 변화와 복잡도 관리를 위해서 EA를 구축하고, 국방 예산의 효율성과 작전 효과성을 증대를 위해서 능력중심의 우선순위 결정 및 자원의 대안수립이 중요하다. EA 사상아래 조직, 업무(작전), 기능, 통합능력, 체계, 자원, 전략 등 주요 엔터프라이즈 구성요소들을 통합능력을 중심으로 프레임워크내에 정의하여 복잡한 그들간의 연관관계를 함께 산출물로 제시하므로서 구성요소간의 정렬, 통합 및 상호운용성이 가능하게 하고, 현재의 전력운용 관점과 미래의 전력개발 관점을 동시에 포함하여 전환계획이 가능한 RTM기반 EA2I프레임워크를 이미 개념적 수준으로 제안한바 있다. 그러나 통합능력을 중심으로 보다 정량적이고 적용 가능하도록 EA2I프레임워크의 구성요소와 구성요소간의 관계, 특히 능력 및 능력우선순위 방법론을 구체적인 수학적 모델로 제시하여 보다 정량적이고 적용 가능하게 하였다.

SBA AF의 구축을 지원하는 온톨로지의 설계 및 구현(ONT-SAF) (The Design and Implementation of Ontology for Simulation based Architecture Framework (ONT-AF) in Military Domain)

  • 본 연구는 SBA AF의 효율적인 구축을 지원하기 위해 Architecture framework(AF)는 Enterprise Architecture(EA)를 운영하고 개발하기 위해 필요한 요소들을 정의하고 그 요소들간의 관계를 파악하기 위한 가이드라인이다. 정부 및 여러 분야에서는 자크만 프레임워크, DoDAF, TOGAF, FEAF와 TEAF 등을 비롯한 많 아키텍처 프레임워크를 사용하고 있다. DoDAF는 국방분야에서 EA의 개발을 지원하기 위해 사용되는 가장 대표적은 아키텍처 프레임워크이다. DoDAF는 8개의 viewpoint와 40개의 view로 구성되어 있다. 특정목저에 맞춰 아키텍처프레임워크를 개발하기 위하여서는 시스템 아키텍트는 일련의 view들 및 해당 view들을 모델링하기 위해 필요한 data들을 선택하여야 한다. 그러나 DoDAF에는 다수의 view 및 data들과 이 들 사이에는 복잡한 연관관계들이 존재한다. 따라서 특정목적을 달성하기 위한 아키텍처 프레임워크를 개발하기 위하여선 매우 많은 시간과 노력이 필요하다. 이러한 시스템 아키텍트의 노력을 줄이기 위하여 본 연구에서는 뷰들사이에 존재하는 순서나 이행 혹은 상호참조관계등을 고려한 ONT-DAF(DoDAF를 위한 온톨로지)를 개발하였다. 또한 단일 아키텍처 프레임워크 내에 존재하는 view와 data의 재사용성을 위하여 DoDAF 가이드라인에 통합적으로 존재하는 view-data의 정보들을 각각 분리하여 구축하였다. 이러한 ONT-DAF는 'viewpoint', 'data', 'view', 'expression method'와 'reference model'의 5개의 class와 'has data', 'has view', 'has related view' 등 총 16개의 properties로 구성되어 있으며 이를 활용하기 위하여 JESS engine과 SWRL rule을 활용한 총 4가지 유형의 8개의 룰을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 효과성을 입증하기 위하여 MoDAF에 존재하는 AV-1의 사례를 기반으로한 사례연구를 진행하였다. 그 결과 본 ONT-DAF를 활용하였을 경우 시스템 아키텍트가 초기에 얻을 수 있는 정보가 단순 view많이 아닌 해당 view와 연관된 view 및 그 들 사이에 존재하는 연관관계와 view를 모델링하기 위해 필요한 data를 포함한 정보들을 제공함으로써 ONT-DAF의 효과성을 입증하였다.

A Gateway and Framework for Telematics Systems Independent on Mobile Networks

  • In this letter, we analyze the problems with the existing telematics service systems that have been dependently developed and provided on a specific mobile network infrastructure. Then, we suggest methods to solve the problems and propose an architecture of the gateway and framework to implement our methods. We also verify the effectiveness of the suggested architecture through a comparison with an existing telematics system. With this architecture, it is possible to develop service applications without knowledge of the underlying mobile network technology and the system integration methods.

  • This paper presents CARMA (Cycle-Accurate Retargetable Micro-Architecture) as efficient framework for SoC-centric pipelined instruction-set architectures. It is based on ADL (Architecture Description Language) and provides more concise and manifest semantics to describe behavior of instruction set by mixing efficiency of instruction-set simulators and flexibility of RTL simulators. It exploits new timing model method based on process scheduling so it can support general timing model with cycle accuracy for large-scaled architectures usually used in SoC multimedia chip-set. According to experiments, the proposed framework was shown to be 5.5 times faster than HDL and 2.5 times faster than System-C in simulation speed so it is applicable for complex instruction-set pipelined architectures.

Comprehensive architecture for intelligent adaptive interface in the field of single-human multiple-robot interaction

  • Nowadays, with progresses in robotic science, the design and implementation of a mechanism for human-robot interaction with a low workload is inevitable. One notable challenge in this field is the interaction between a single human and a group of robots. Therefore, we propose a new comprehensive framework for single-human multiple-robot remote interaction that can form an efficient intelligent adaptive interaction (IAI). Our interaction system can thoroughly adapt itself to changes in interaction context and user states. Some advantages of our devised IAI framework are lower workload, higher level of situation awareness, and efficient interaction. In this paper, we introduce a new IAI architecture as our comprehensive mechanism. In order to practically examine the architecture, we implemented our proposed IAI to control a group of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) under different scenarios. The results show that our devised IAI framework can effectively reduce human workload and the level of situation awareness, and concurrently foster the mission completion percentage of the UAVs.

  • Software Architecture for any given software system is its skeletal framework. That is to say that if this framework does not properly support the system then it would cause more harm than good. Accordingly it is our opinion that choosing the right architecture to realize this framework is a crucial part in creating a successful system. This report discusses a comparative method which utilizes the steps in ATAM to realize architectural decisions and more importantly aide in architectural selection that promotes system success.

  • Recently, RFID technology has attracted considerable attention in many industry fields. The RFID environment requires a standard architecture for the smooth exchange of data between heterogeneous networks. The architecture should offer an efficient standard environment, such as a communication environment based on Web Services, PKI or Kerberos-based security, and abstract business processes which could be used in the diverse domains. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an Enterprise Application Framework (EAF) which includes a standard communication protocol, security functions, and abstract level business processes. The suggested architecture is expected to provide a more secure and flexible security management in the dynamic RFID application environments, and is expected to provide an abstract business event for the development of business processes which could apply RFID technology to the existing systems.

기능별로 분류된 프레임워크에 기반한 실내용 이동로봇의 주행시스템 (Functionally Classified Framework based Navigation System for Indoor Service Robots)

  • This paper proposes a new integrated navigation system for a mobile robot in indoor environments. This system consists of five frameworks which are classified by function. This architecture can make the navigation system scalable and flexible. The robot can recover from exceptional situations, such as environmental changes, failure of entering the narrow path, and path occupation by moving objects, using the exception recovery framework. The environmental change can be dealt with using the probabilistic approach, and the problems with the narrow path and path occupation are solved using the ray casting algorithm and the Bayesian update rule. The proposed navigation system was successfully applied to several robots and operated in various environments. Experimental results showed good performance in that the exception recovery framework significantly increased the success rate of navigation. The system architecture proposed in this paper can reduce the time for developing robot applications through its reusability and changeability.
