The Composition and Characteristics of the Coastal Space of Chongqing: An Interpretative Study Based on the Ten-year Draft Construction Plan of the Alternate Capital

  • This study focused on the buildings, wharves, and parks of the coastal space of Chongqing based on the ten-year construction draft plan of the alternate capital. From an investigation of these three components according to their type, structure, terrain, function, spatial layer, and so on, the following conclusions were drawn: The coastal space of Chongqing is composed of three different layers. The first and second layers consisted of the two-river intersection basin with the transportation and commemorative space at the center, the Yangtze River basin with the commercial space at the center, and the Jialing River with the military and recreational space at the center. The third-layer is centered around the commemorative space. The coastal space of Chongqing manifested the limitations of the times, its traditionality, and an integrated development process.

  • This paper aims to describe a case study of parametric interior design based on BIM (Building Information Modeling). As the practical use of BIM-based design grows, its influence expands into the field of interior architecture design. BIM makes possible to check various design plan, reach decision making in an effective way, and change design plan in an efficient method. Therefore, BIM is also promising field in interior architecture design. However, compared to other fields in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry, there have been less research and projects on BIM in the field of interior architecture. For increasing the feasibility of adapting BIM in interior architecture design, this paper describes a case study-projecting images for designing interior panels using parametric modeling. This process needs elaborate, delicate, and precise steps for harmonious output. For continuous use of building, users look forward to the design which variable and changeable according to user's preference and environment. Therefore, demand for parametric design in the interior design part such as panel pattern design for various decoration is growing. Treated process in this paper deals with an advanced phase which much effective in decreasing time consumption and useless part of process. Finally, this paper suggests the possibility of using BIM in the interior design process and field where BIM can be applied.

A Study on the Characteristic of Raumplan based on the Architectural Thought of Adolf Loos (아돌프 로스의 건축사상에 기초한 라움플란의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Adolf Loos showed important directionality in the thought of modem culture and architecture. The thought about the architecture of Adolf Loos was gathered by "Raumplan". It is the solution of the plan in space. But the concept and method of the "Raumplan" had not been synthesized until near the end of Loos's life. Loos's first reference to the "Raumplan" appears in 1929. I think that "Raumplan" became the solution of the plan in space with a formation process of the thought about the architecture and culture of Adolf Loos. Therefore, the purpose of this paper derived a characteristic of "Raumplan" from the relations between the architectural thought of Adolf Loos and "Raumplan". The processes of the study are as follows. (1)Consideration about the growth background of Adolf Loos and the social situation of Vienna. (2)Analysis about architecture and the cultural critic of Adolf Loos. (3)Analysis of "Raumplan" based on architectural thought of Adolf Loos. As a result, I got the four characteristics of "Raumplan" as follows. (1) Separation and continuation of "Raum". (2) Fragment of "Raum". (3) Overlay and transmission by the axis of multiplex eyes. (4) Structural adjustment of the "Raum" by Hierarchy. Finally, I understood the architecture which Adolf Loos pursued in "Raumplan" had a high function and contained the clear meaning and contents which had practical use and economic value, and it were not a results of the simple logic.

  • Recently there has been more apprehensions about health and environment. Since the concern has been increased, it is realized that students need to study in comfort and clean environment, and plan to study in environmental friendly facilities. Hence it is needed for both indoor air quality performance evaluation and greening facilities in order to plan environmental friendly schools. Accordingly, this study analyzes the indoor air quality throughout field survey of schools to provide preliminary data to develop environmental friendly education facilities. This paper investigates and analyzes indoor environment standards and performances in schools. There will be included 15 existing schools and 5 newly built schools for survey in Seoul and Gyeonggi. Additionally, environmental problems are also investigated and analyzed by occupants' questionnaires through surveys.

  • This paper presents GDOCF(Government Document Enterprise Architecture Framework) based on the direction of EA(Enterprise Architecture) framework to build GDOCEA. The construction of EA for GDOC offered various types of information technology Platform which advanced the interoperability between Government Information Systems. In addition, it insured the interoperability between the e-Government Initiatives and helped a consistent management for information resource. As a result, MOGAHA could support a policy decision and capital investment plan for information. Also, all the information needed for the operation and management of GDOC has been being referenced, shared and utilized as EA repository. Eventually Pilot EA would be a corner stone to build EA master plan considering all the information systems in MOGAHA.

Automation of block assignment planning using a diagram-based scenario modeling method

  • Most shipbuilding scheduling research so far has focused on the load level on the dock plan. This is because the dock is the least extendable resource in shipyards, and its overloading is difficult to resolve. However, once dock scheduling is completed, making a plan that makes the best use of the rest of the resources in the shipyard to minimize any additional cost is also important. Block assignment planning is one of the midterm planning tasks; it assigns a block to the facility (factory/shop or surface plate) that will actually manufacture the block according to the block characteristics and current situation of the facility. It is one of the most heavily loaded midterm planning tasks and is carried out manually by experienced workers. In this study, a method of representing the block assignment rules using a diagram was suggested through analysis of the existing manual process. A block allocation program was developed which automated the block assignment process according to the rules represented by the diagram. The planning scenario was validated through a case study that compared the manual assignment and two automated block assignment results.

A Study on the Systematic Construction of the Utility Space in General Hospital (국내 종합병원 Utility Space의 체계 구축에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: In terms of the flexibility in hospital architecture, there are fixed elements of hospital architecture: mechanical, electrical, aeration rooms and shafts, which are the main utility spaces. Thus, it is necessary to recognize the utility space as a system that helps internal functions and flexible internal changes. This study analyzes the notion of the main utility space in hospital architecture and the architectural planning features of the main utility spaces as the system in the design process of the recently built hospitals. Methods: The design factors are extracted comparing two hospitals' plans in each stage and the systematic characteristics of utility spaces are analyzed accordingly. The opinions gathered from interviews of practitioners, architects and facility planning experts directly involved in the architecture design process are analyzed and reflected in the results. Results: Planning for utility spaces should be accompanied by the architectural plan from the basic design process, and proceeded with recognizing utility spaces as a system, which is a fixed element. Utility spaces are highly organically connected. Horizontal and vertical distribution of air chambers can reduce the length and number of ducts, and thus save story height, and reduce the number of shafts, the vertical connection passage. This is advantageous in securing the variable area, which is the ultimate objective of the system-centered hospital architecture plan. Implications: Thereby aims to provide fundamental data on systematic utility space planning in the hospital architecture planning.

Passive Design Elements in the Architectural Planning of the Public Libraries - Focusing on the Comparison between Site and Building in the G-SEED Pre-certified and Non-certified library -

  • Purpose: The definition and factors of passive design being the sustainable method of building plan through the preceding research is deducted and the effect of passive design within the public library by applying the deducted factors in the case of built public libraries and further the realization plan of green library aimed to be reviewed in this research. Method: This study is to induce common elements of architecture plan for public library and passive design, and assess application level of re-classified elements of sustainable public library in order to analyze present condition of passive design applied on facilities of public library. First, related laws and planning standards of public library will be reviewed, then the definition of passive design will be considered using advanced research. Through advanced research related to planing elements and passive design for library induced from various plans for library standards, a common ground of induced passive design element will be transformed into assessment items and practices to be analyzed. Result: Libraries which are and are not preliminarily certified by G-SEED will be compared with each other in order to analyze the effects of passive design on G-SEED. Even though various passive elements such as load reduction of air conditioning and energy efficiency exist, there are no assessment tool within G-SEED. The fact that there are only standards for temporary methods such as utilization of construction material and installation of equipment highlights the challenges in quantitative evaluation.

The Landscape Design of Sejong Center Square by applying the Combination of Geometric Lines (기하학적 선의 조합을 응용한 세종문화화관 조경설계)

  • This landscape design is a work for which we selected the square of Sejong Center for the Performing Arts as a object area, drew inhuman factors, and tried to restore them to human environment. This plan assumes that excessive urban environment results from disorder and man can keep it in order and restore it to human environment through the progressive process of speculation. In this plan, we included the least parking space and nearby roads in the object area to maximize the location feature and the symbol of cultural space, and planned that the object area may play its role of open space in the downtown. To grant the symbol of culture space, we established the progressive process of speculation and the relationship of mu, heaven and earth, and culture, geometrically diagrammatized it, combined the circular and rectangular lines derived from it, and suggested a plan. Urban environment will continue to change in the future. However, as long as it is not ensured that the change will progress upward, city would be far from human environment anyhow. Effects to display inhuman space overlooked in the downtown and restore it to human environment for citizen and location for man, should continue.

A Study on the Adaptation Method of Biotope Area Factor by Land-use Type in the Built-up Area (시가화지역 토지이용유형별 피복현황 분석을 통한 생태면적률 적용 방안 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the propriety of the Biotope Area Factor's(BAF) application and propose an improvement plan. The BAP system, initially started by Seoul metropolitan city, is being settled in Korea. The BAF originated from the Biotop $Fl{\ddot{a}}chen$ Faktor(BFF) system of Berlin Germany. It was established as part of the Landscape Plan for the ecological function recovery in the high density built-up area with a sense of environmentally friendly urban management. The study compared the BAF's present condition of Ganddong-Gu, Seoul with Seoul's BAF system. Some problems appeared from the system application. Firstly, it may cause ecological damage if the site ranges are more than current BAF system limits. Secondly, the application of the current BAF system has the possibility of general redevelopment, but the partial improvement considering current standards of the high density built-up area's paving section is impossible. Lastly, division of the application object and application type are not divided well. In addition, the Seoul BAF which is currently applied across the board is based on the destruction of the natural area and low density built-up area. Accordingly, to improve these problems requires a complementary system protecting the ecological function prior to the application of the BAF and with restricted application to high density of BAF system built-up area.
