Development of the Application Program for Architectural Engineering Problems

  • The architectural engineering is regarded as the non-IT related field. But as growing the domain of IT industry, the students who major in the architectural engineering have to keep the programming ability to deal with the architectural engineering problems. In this paper, It will be discussed the development of the application program for architectural engineering problems by using the programming skill, and how can it enhance the non-IT related field's students to solve the problems.

건축설계과정에서 Grasshopper 프로그래밍의 효율적 접근에 관한 연구 (A Study on Efficient Approaches for Grasshopper Programming in Architectural Design Process)

  • The trend of using Grasshopper with Rhino3D actively in architectural design process is recently spreading around the world. Well-known architects and designers such as Zaha Hadid, Patrik Schmacher is famous for using Grasshopper as their main design tool. As a tool for so-called 'Parametric Design', Grasshopper is receiving much attention all over the world. Grasshopper as a visual programming language has an advantage that designers and non-professionals of computer can easily learn it and use it to their works. However, those designers tend to make inefficient approaches with Grasshopper compared to computer programming professionals. Meanwhile, the difference between other programming languages and Grasshopper leads to the need of different approaches from other programming languages. This study aims to propose desired approaches of Grasshopper programming or scripting to be able to break through the inefficient approaches that designer is likely to make, by examining the characteristics of Grasshopper and exploring the appropriate programming approaches for Grasshopper.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to develop the new method of the expert system as a new approach of the architectural programming in general hospital. Theoretical and field investigations have been made for this study, and finally, the computer pro gram for the architectural programming of general hospital was established. The architectural programming of general hospital is more complex than any other types of buildings and has been changed rapidly according to the social, cultural and environmental factors. Hence, a new approach method is necessary for corresponding to the complexity and these factors. Therefore, the computer should be used as a tool in order to operate more logical and systematic programming.

  • This study intended to put information regarding space composition and functional relationship together and analyze them, and finally offers some suggestions. For the field survey, built questionnaire and drawings analysis were used in this study. Architectural programming offers basic information for design : putting field survey factors together and analysing them. It interacts with each part of design as well. In the initial stage of architectural design, the quality of information is very decisive in the quality of design. In this sense, analysing basic information such as floor space compositive system is required to rationalizing space and functional programing in the elementary school design.

Resource and Sequence Optimization Using Constraint Programming in Construction Projects

  • Construction projects are large-scale projects that require extensive construction costs and resources. Especially, scheduling is considered as one of the essential issues for project success. However, the schedule and resource management are challenging to conduct in high-tech construction projects including complex design of MEP and architectural finishing which has to be constructed within a limited workspace and duration. In order to deal with such a problem, this study suggests resource and sequence optimization using constraint programming in construction projects. The optimization model consists of two modules. The first module is the data structure of the schedule model, which consists of parameters for optimization such as labor, task, workspace, and the work interference rate. The second module is the optimization module, which is for optimizing resources and sequences based on Constraint Programming (CP) methodology. For model validation, actual data of plumbing works were collected from a construction project using a five-minute rate (FMR) method. By comparing actual data and optimized results, this study shows the possibility of reducing the duration of plumbing works in construction projects. This study shows decreased overall project duration by eliminating work interference by optimizing resources and sequences within limited workspaces.

A Case Study of Puzzle Solving Applied to Programming Practice

  • In this paper, we report a case study of applying puzzle solving as a programming practice. There are many students, who have attended computer programming language courses, have had difficulties in accomplishing the course assignments. It is because just following and citing the programming language course materials is not sufficient for constructing computer programs. Many professional developers have stated that computer programming for small problems is an art of puzzle solving, where developing enterprise-size computer programming projects involves architectural insights which are already dealt in software engineering literatures. Following those backgrounds, we have explored the applicability of puzzle solving in a C++ object oriented programming course and have reported the results. The experimental results show that puzzle solving is effective to the students who are interested in computer programming and have at least beginner-level knowledge and expertise, but it turned out that puzzle solving assignments still does not draw much attention of the students who are not seriously interested in computer programming.

  • In western countries, the community care for the elderly people has developed, because of heavy cost and isolation problem in the society of institutional care basis. Since 1980, 'home care for the elderly' has introduced in korea. One of them is 'Multipurpose senior center'. However it has built without rational space programming and architectural planning analysis. Therefor, this study is to establish the function and space programming of multipurpose senior center.

  • There are many agendas and discussion subjects for BIM-based Criteria Design phase. At that time, some problems are occurred by software compatibility, simple repetitive tasks, rework caused by missing information etc. In this study, we focus on solving that problems by applying API(Application Programming Interface) method. For effective study, we construct Criteria Design process by using DSM (Dependency Structure Matrix) and study applicability of API. It will be effective for time-consuming task and simply labor-intensive tasks by applying API. we expect improving BIM-based Design Process and Data quality, work productivity without missing information and shapes for using API.

건축장 개념을 적용한 설계과정 연구 (The Study of the Process of Design on the Application of the Architectural Field Concept)

  • 건축설계과정은 프로그래밍 단계와 디자인 단계로 구분된다. 현대물리학 개념에 기초한 현대건축이론은 자료를 통합하는 디자인 단계에 적용되어 설계된다. 건축장 또한 디자인 단계에서 진행된다. 건축장은 건축장 특성으로 일체성, 상호성, 영역성을 구현하여 설계가 된다. 그리고 이 특성은 설계 시 고려하는 사항 및 접근하는 관점과 사고의 범위에 따라 영역성, 상호성, 일체성의 설계과정으로 진행이 된다. 영역성 설계는 주변 환경 및 구조물 등과 대지의 관계조직체계를 계획한다. 상호성 설계는 건축물이나 공간 등 상호 영향을 주고받는 상호간의 관계망을 계획한다. 일체성 설계는 공간과 건축물이 만나는 방식을 설계하는 것이다. 영역성과 상호성에서 설정된 설계 방향을 구현하고자 어떠한 방식이나 형상을 계획할 것인지에 관하여 구체적인 내용을 계획하게 된다. 결론적으로 건축장 특성을 정의하는 일련의 설계과정에 의하여 건축장이 만들어 진다.
