  • This study evaluates collapse probabilities of structures which are designed according to a domestic seismic design code, KBC2009. In evaluating their collapse probabilities, to do this, probabilistic distribution models for seismic hazard and structural capacity are required. In this paper, eight major cities in Korea are selected and the demand probabilistic distribution of each city is obtained from the uniform seismic hazard. The probabilistic distribution for the structural capacity is assumed to follow a underlying design philosophy implicitly defined in ASCE 7-10. With the assumptions, the structural collapse probability in 50 years is evaluated based on the concept of a risk integral. This paper then defines an mean value of the collapse probabilities in 50 years of the selected major cities as the target risk. Risk-targeted spectral accelerations are finally suggested by modifying a current mapped spectral acceleration to meet the target risk.

  • The main functions of a Buddhist temples are as a place for Buddhist services and a place for sermons and each ancient Buddhist temple was equipped with a main and separate building. After Zen Buddhism was first introduced, there was a tendency to change the terms to Buddhist sanctuary and altar, as set forth in the Zen Buddhism code of conduct called 'Cheonggyu(淸規)'. As such, it was thought that the division between Buddhist service space and preaching space were relatively firm until the Goryeo Dynasty. However in the period from the end of the Goryeo to the beginning of the Joseon Dynasty there was an increasing tendency of integration of the two buildings. It can be seen that, in cases where both buildings remained, statues of Buddha were enshrined in these buildings without any distinction. Eventually it is led to the tradition of duo-Buddhist sanctums.

  • In this study the progressive collapse potential of three- and nine-story special steel moment frames designed in accordance with current design code was evaluated by nonlinear static and dynamic analyses. It was observed that the model structures had high potential for progressive collapse when a first story column was suddenly removed. Then the size of beams required to satisfy the failure criteria for progressive collapse was obtained by the virtual work method; i.e., using the equilibrium of the external work done by gravity load due to loss of a column and the internal work done by plastic rotation of beams. According to the nonlinear dynamic analysis results, the model structures designed only for normal load turned out to have strong potential for progressive collapse whereas the structures designed by plastic design concept for progressive collapse satisfied the failure criterion recommended by the GSA guideline.

  • This study is done to evaluate how existence of shear-span ratio and shear reinforcing bar effects on shear performance from through shear experiment using PVA fiber reinforced ferroconcrete building. Ratio of shear-span was set 1, 1.7, and arrangement of shear reinforcing bar was set with KCI2012 regulation. In result, subject with less shear-span ratio, and shear reinforcing bar with arrangement of bar shows high stiffness. Subjects with high shear-span ratio show large difference depending on existence of shear reinforcing bar. Therefore, theoretical shear strength followed by CEB code underestimates experimental shear strength by 43.9%. Shear strength of the deep beam with headed bars is more affected by the bearing strength of head than the bond strength of bar.

  • This paper shows the simplified equation to predict the ultimate moment capacity and corresponding rod stress in reinforced concrete beam with external post-tensioning rods. Because the stress of external post-tensioning rod depends on the beam deflection, the previous analytical model for post-tensioned beams requires a tedious iteration process. Also, the stress equations in ACI code or other researchers' models are suitable only for internal tendons in concrete beams. In this study, given the lack of analytical approaches to predict the nominal stress of the external unbonded rod, a simple and robust equation has been proposed for externally post-tensioned concrete beams. It is concluded that the proposed equation predicted the stress of external steel rods in post-tensioned concrete beams reasonably well.

  • This thesis draws institutional problem about safety of architectural structure through analysis of architectural structure regulation. The law of analysis target are building codes, enforcement ordinance of building codes, enforcement regulations of building codes, regulation for structure standards of building, building structure standards. The analysis showed there are imperfections in confirmed procedural application of structure safety and suggested reformation. It's necessary to make supplementary policies for the suitability of the term use and the structure safety certificate of compliance, establishing a special structure code.

  • It has been a well known fact that buildings having inappropriate expansion joints in their spacings may be subject to exterior damages due to extensive cracks on the outer walls under service loads and structural damages due to excessive moment induced by temperature changes at ultimate load conditions. Unfortunately, consistent code provisions are unavailable regarding spacings of expansion joints from different foreign structural codes. And a more serious problem is that no quantitative measurements on spacings is given in our codes for building structures. In order to establish a rational guideline on the spacing of expansion joints, theoretical approaches are taken in this study. The developed theoretical formula is, then, converted to a design chart for structural designers' convenience in its use. The chart considers both service and ultimate load stages.

  • In this study, structural irregularities in plan, which has a considerable effect on earthquake behavior of buildings, have been investigated in detail based on Turkish Earthquake Code 2007. The study consists of six main parametric models and a total of 144 sub-models that are grouped based on RC structural systems such as frame, frame + rigid core, frame with shear wall, and frame with shear wall + rigid core. All models are designed to have both symmetrical plan geometry and regular rigidity distribution. Changes in the earthquake behavior of buildings were evaluated according to the number of storeys, number of axes and the configuration of structural elements. Many findings are obtained and assessed as a result of the analysis for each structural irregularity. The study shows that structural irregularities can be observed in completely symmetric buildings in terms of plan geometry and rigidity distribution.

  • The hysteretic behavior of diagonal reinforced coupling beams is excellent during earthquakes. However, construction of the diagonal reinforced coupling beams is difficult due to complex reinforcement details required by current code procedures (ACI 318-11). Due to the detail requirement, reinforcement congestion and interference among transverse reinforcement always occur during construction field. When the aspect ratio of the beam is large, the interference of reinforcement becomes more serious. The objective of this paper is to simplify the reinforcement details of slender coupling beams by reducing transverse reinforcement around the beam perimeter. For this purpose, high- performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites are used for making coupling beams. Experiments were conducted using three specimens having aspect ratio 3.5. Test results showed that HPFRCC coupling beams with half the transverse reinforcement required by ACI 318-11 provided identical seismic capacities to the corresponding coupling beams having requirement satisfying the requirement specified in ACI 318-11.

In order to moment, the purpose of this study is to analyze planning direction and Architectural Environments in medium and small scale Elderly Care Facilities. This survey are used to investigate with latest building data, which is Long-term Care Insurance Code for the Elderly was started on July 2008 in Korea. The results of this paper are as follows. First, various type of home for the elderly and the elderly group homes are spread out, attached to day care center type, nursing home type, city region type, countryside rural type, near the university and remodeling type. Secondly, per capita room area-$6.32m^2$ are sufficient in regal comparison with $6.6m^2$. Thirdly, Sunlight environments is inappropriate condition as south direction proportion-41.95%. According to the present situation various facility type and model for our baby boomers generation should be more developed with preemptive systems of senior welfare concept.
