This research investigates a system for house design automation. The system is based on an object-oriented building data model, aiming to support the house design process conducted by non-expert users. Its object model, with simple yet powerful user interfaces, enables a CAD system to handle a complicated building system with much ease. Hence, the model dramatically simplifies the design process beyond just the automatic document generation. In this paper, we discuss the aspects of the building data model, introduce critical concepts such as grid objects and structured floor plan, and present a prototype system called GPLAN. The system is implemented in the framework of our building data model, and it provides a host of intelligent features that have been proved useful for house design automation.
Within residential high-rise market there are many value determining factors. Site condition, view, program, units and structure are important parameters that are directly related to the financial aspect of the project. However, most of the studies of high-rise building design focus on the facade and the shape strategies from an esthetic point of view without considering these factors. The objective of this study is to investigate new design approach that incorporates site, program and structural information at an early stage as a generator of building form and explore a wide range of strategies to negotiate these factors in the process of design/decision making. Not being based on designer's subjective preference or style, architects still can create interesting building design through integration and negotiation of various building information. Since this form is based on real data, not just play of form, we can expect that this form has great potential to be developed into real one at the later design phase.
The innovative designer and structural engineer, Cecil Balmond is co-representative of Ove Arup and has been co-worked with world-famous architects and has been influenced so much on architectural thinking. These days he extended his career as an architect. Moreover, he has been noticed through a few publishing by his own architectural thinking. He is describing the World with his unique insight based on structural perspectives, which have much common grounds with that of Deulezian philosophy. It is especially valuable to study the relationship between his thinking of Interior-Exterior Ring and Deleuzian thinking of Virtual Circulation for understanding more clearly about structural and compositional principle how world is composed of. The Ring is circulationg from interior to exterior which is similar with Deleuzian concept that the Smooth and the Striated is circulationg mutually. Seamless flight line would be ceaseless creative virtual process to actuality.

When we compare CM system with Design Bid Build system, we can see two striking features in CM system. First, CMr participates in construction team along with Owner, Designer and Constructor. The newcomer can change boundaries of function and responsibility. Second, Compatibility through each phase and Objectivity of decision-making become more important, because relation among stakeholders changes from a rectilinear to a network. However, it is not clear how the risk of completion is reasonably treated. So we have to think about the relations between Owner and CMr, CMr and Specialist Contractor from a point of trade risk. This paper covers them.

RC shear walls are frequently used as lateral force-resisting system in building construction because they have sufficient stiffness and strength against damage and collapse. If RC shear walls are properly designed and proportioned, these walls can also behave as ductile flexural members like cantilevered beams. To achieve this goal, the designer should provide adequate strength and deformation capacity of shear walls corresponding to the anticipated deformation level. In this study, the level of demands for deformation of shear walls was investigated using a displacement-based design approach. Also, deformation capacities of shear walls are evaluated through laboratory tests of shear walls with specific transverse confinement widely used in Korea. Four full-scale wall specimens with different wall boundary details and cross-sections were constructed for the experiment. The displacement-based design approach could be used to determine the deformation demands and capacities depending on the aspect ratio, ratio of wall area to floor plan area, flexural reinforcement ratio, and axial load ratio. Also, the specific boundary detailing for shear wall can be applied to enhance the deformation capacity of the shear wall.
It has been stated that the outer skin of an architecture should be related to and express the interior programs. It was rather moral issue than practicality. In contemporary urban cities, this nicely-linked relationship between exterior and interior has become much more complex and, in many cases, is no more valid. It tends that contemporary architectural skin is somehow separately developed and has its own logic to be independent from what is inside. This research focuses on these sort of logical design process to make unique image of skin in which conceptual thinking, spatialization and materialization are mixed together. More specifically this study articulates' expandable patternization process' based on the notion that it has a crucial role to systematically construct an image of skin. Expandable patternization has a couple of stages to complete an architectural skin. The first element is a single unit and the second is organization or arrangement of units based on a logical process. Lastly, the third is spatialization after relating the skin to the interior programs as well as environmental surroundings. It is found that, although, in most related projects, the architect or designer has followed his or her own preference or design tendencies, many skin projects has based the given unique characteristics from the beginning. This study concludes that skin design is not just an image making, but has an important role to amalgamate various aspects of an architectural projects: programs, concept of architect, environment, structure as well as image.
This study is intended to investigate the superyacht exterior design style from the viewpoint of marine architectural design. Especially it is focused on the exterior profile design of superyachts. Superyachts are passenger vessels whose hull exceeds 24m. They are a kind of luxurious leisure ships. Marine architectural designer can contribute in the field of exterior and interior design of superyachts. In this study we analyze outboard profile of 32 superyachts and extract key design elements of exterior profiles. Those are sheer line, stem line, bow line, house line and windows.
This study focused on the application of the Passive Solar Chamber System (PSCS) as proposed by a previous study. The seasonal performance and sizing method for the system were investigated for a feasibility of the PSCS in Korean climate. For seasonal performance, heat and ventilation performances of the PSCS were analyzed for the months of January and August. This study proposed a simple configuration method in which the designer can decide on the system size at the preliminary design stage by using system efficiency, overall heat transfer coefficient transmission, monthly solar radiation, highest and lowest temperatures. During weeks that require heating, the system showed to acquire a daily average heat amount of $860.28Wh/m^2$ day. For cooling periods, the system was computed to supply a daily average natural ventilation of $1,360.2m^3/day$ to the room. Moreover, proposed sizing method and the overall computation results showed a 6.04~7.24% error of assessment.

Ground source heat pump(GSHP) system is one of the high efficiency heat source systems which utilizes the constant geothermal energy of a underground water or soil. However, the design of conventional GSHP system in the domestic market is dependent on the experience of the designer and the installer, and it causes increase of initial installation cost or degradation of system performance. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a guideline and the optimal design method to maintain stable performance of the system and reduce installation cost. In this study, in order to optimize the GSHP system, design factors according to ground heat exchanger(GHX) type have been examine by simulation tool. Furthermore, the design factors and the correlation of a single U-tube and a double U-tube were analyzed quantitatively through sensitivity analysis. Results indicated that, the length of the ground heat exchanger was greatly influenced by grout thermal conductivity for single U-tube and pipe spacing for double U-tube.

This research explains a new process in architecture frameworks. A complete analysis on implementation of the specific frameworks can be conducted by a special system. Moreover, the system can be installed anywhere, and it produces a unique result, which is customized based on the contents of architectural designs by users. Before using the system, an architect should think about the design and the process of constructing frameworks because a computer sometimes computes misleading results although the architect describes architectural structures, which the designer wants. If the architect inputs the same process into the computer, and the result of frameworks changes, it is not a proper architectural design. Hence, a tool, which precisely treats data, is needed. Therefore, when constructing the proper architecture, a new paradigm of architecture should be used to distinguish the issues of discussion by using various data. Also, based on this information, an apartment housing complex design, related to possible parameters, which can be expressed by combining various fusion tables and geocloud, and architectural designs, is proposed.
