An event as philosophical thought is expanded throughout our society and affected largely an architectural field as well as aesthetics. Paying attention to this fact, this study is to relate the event to an architectural space and to find an interrelationship between them. Since Martin Heidegger who started to be regarded the event as a subject of thought, many philosophers revealed different thoughts about it. Architecture works of Louis I. Kahn, Peter Zumthor, Steven Holl, Bernard Tschumi, Rem Koolhaas who had the influences from the thoughts of Martin Heidegger, M. Merleau-Ponty, Jacques Derrida, Gilles Deleuze, are analyzed and compared their features. The reason why this relationship has become the subject of research is because the event can be confirmed to be connected with an architectural thoughts by correlating with aesthetic texts. Throughout this study, each architect, who is affected from philosophers, has different characters as they have different thoughts about events. This study is expected to be used as an literature data of intertextuality of philosophy and architecture.

The objective of this study is to propose methods to design and analyze a catenary shell using a computer program without experiments and measurements. The intial idea stems from Pendergrast's study, but his method should be improved. In this study, the process of making catenary shell using computer was reproduced by Grasshopper script. In order to enhance credibility, two models from Grasshopper script were analyzed by SAP2000; one was just a square-based catenary shell, while the other was the re-created shell originated from the Naturtheater $Gr{\ddot{o}}tzingen$. The outcome of analysis was reasonable.

The purpose of this study is to show the development process of space concept by studying on the Louis I. Kahn's painting as pre-architectural thinking. Generally the idea of an architect is represented with lots of mediums, and the architectural thinking is developed through the process. In his early days, he, as an architect, made many travel sketches of Europe. In these clays, painting was the most significant medium to him. Since 1950's, he also left lots of sketches affected by abstract painting in addition to travel sketches. The results of this study were as follows: He found the image of antiquity from his painting and he made this image into abstraction in the facade. And the image of ruins was translated the layered space which was the transitional space. And he presented 'marche' through the series of painting of various view point. The Concept of 'marche' was translated into the connections of repetitive mass in the architectural space.

In Korea, the occurrence frequency of earthquakes has recently increased, compared with the past. So, the various damages for cultural properties due to earthquake can be expected, and especially fortress structure is vulnerable to earthquake. Therefore, the resonable seismic characteristics evaluation is required to secure the safety for fortress structure with the various construction and configuration types. Also, we should consider the various applied load conditions as design variables. To this end, this study classifies fortress structures according to the construction and configuration types, and then applies the discrete element method to model and analyze fortress structures. Finally, the seismic characteristics is evaluated through slip condition due to the analysis results considering the various design variables.

From long time ago, stairs are performed the central role of vertical circulation system in architectural planning for convenience of human. The purpose of this study is to find the spacial characteristics of stairs in architectural space. Two methods In this study are discussed. First, it is to extract the formal elements in its stairs shape raising an impulse of visual-perceptible recognition. Second, it is to analysis its characteristic through relationship between stairs and spacial elements. In conclusion, the characteristics of stairs in architectural space have as follows 1) spatial connection - to connect between space and other space or masses; 2) spatial separation - to separate between inner space and other space; 3) openness or closeness of space; 4) directed-tention of space.

The study is Intended to clarify the ideologies and principles applied to the formative expression of church architecture which is contained both the God and human. After modern times, from the result of study of modern architectural movement, all of architectural ideology have not been developed with the church architecture. Some of architectural concept have been the foundation of modern church architecture. Among them, focusing the area which is developed the form of the church architecture wish the regional architectural expression -America, Northern Europe and Latin America - the expressional characteristics have derived that the church architecture have specific characteristics by the analysis of the characteristics from the influence of the regionalism. After all, regionalism-church architecture which describes recognized and behavioral organism and recognize the kind of the regional tradition and show regionalized formation shows the expressional characteristics of modern church architecture.

With the recent global trends in environmental preservation, the importance of sustainable construction is being highlighted in Korea. In particular, the trend is being discussed about life cycle of the apartment houses in various aspects. However the Korean construction market and housing policy have been increasingly focusing on supplier. Structures become progressively obsolete after a certain period, but their durability can be extended with proper maintenance management. Accordingly, if maintenance management on the structures is made efficiently, waste of construction energy and damage to the environment and economic loss due to early demolition and reconstruction can be effectively prevented. This research is to investigate the way to combine Peirce's typology of signs with architectural design. A new diagram is suggested to ensure the continuity of Peirce's typology, by rearranging and reconstructing the well known inverted triangle diagram showing the structure of the typology. The new diagram is easier to understand the organization of the typology, by showing the linkages between sign types and their relationships with other types. A way to adapt the new diagram to architectural design for the purpose of representing typology as well as ensuring model growth as semiotic model for architectural design model. The new model is organized of three sign clusters, sinsign cluster, legisign cluster, and symbolic cluster. They are interrelated through successive inclusion and case inclustion. The new model is organized of threefold layers. The first layer is internal structure of each cluster. The second is interrelation between cluster. The third is mediation of symbolic cluster between sinsign cluster and legisign cluster. This paper investigate and demonstrate the possibility of adaptation of the new model in architectural design. It has been argued that the theoretical basis of sign typology is adaptable to architectural design by principle. More future research issues are discussed.

Since aging population in Korea is rapidly progressing, the need for improving the life quality of the elderly has been increasing. Accordingly, in order to respond in a residential environment improvement and behavior change for the elderly, architecture design and construction methods have become converted into a modular construction method and various IT systems for the elderly have been proposed. Unlike current residential design techniques for the elderly in which architectural design techniques are performed separately with IT system design, the methodology for converging architectural design techniques with IT has not been discussed and proposed. Therefore, this paper extensively studies about requirements for converging architectural design techniques with IT such as elderly behavior, residential IT Service plan factor analysis, and residential modular construction method including IT services.
