The Gyeongsang Arc is the most notable of the Korea Arc that is composed of several volcanic arcs trending to NE-SW direction in the Korean peninsula. The Hayang Group has many volcanogenic interbeds of lava flows by alkaline or calc-alkaline basaltic volcanisms during early Cretaceous. Late Cretaceous calc-alkaline andesitic and rhyolitic volcanisms reconstructed the Gyeongsang Arc that consist of thick volcanic strata on the Hayang Group in The Gyeongsang Basin. The volcanisms characterize first eruptions of basaltic and andesitic lavas with small pyroclastics, and continue later eruptions of dacitic and rhyolitic ash-fall and voluminous ash-flow with some calderas and then domes and dykes. During the Early Cretaceous (about 120 Ma), oblique subduction of the Izanagi plate to NNW from N direction results in sinistral strike-slip faults to open a pull-apart basin in back-arc area of the Gyeongsang Arc, in which erupted lava flows from generation of magma by a decrease in lithostatic pressure. Therefore the Gyeongsang Basin is interpreted into back-arc basin reconstructed by a continental rifting. Arc volcanism began in about 100 Ma with exaggeration of the back-arc basin in the Gyeongsang, and then changed violently to construct volcanic arcs. During the Late Cretaceous (about 90 Ma), orthogonal subduction of the Izanagi plate to NW from NNW direction ceased development of the basin to prolong violent volcanisms.
To develop GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear), prediction of the flow field including pressure in GIS is very important. The transport phenomena in GIS including arc is also being studied in these days. In this study, to predict the arc behaviour for GIS with voltage rating up to 800kV developed by HHI (Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd.), the analysis of flow and electric field in GIS were investigated. To simulate the compressible flow in GIS, the CFX, commercial CFD code, was used. The movement of the piston and the electrode of the GIS was simulated with moving grid method, which was superior to the method of varying the property of cells in the aspect of accuracy and convergence of solution. The calculated maximum pressure within the puffer cylinder was matched with experimental data within 5% error. Also, the oscillation of pressure in GIS after the movement of electrode was well predicted.
In this work, we introduce a newly constructed arc-jet device of 150 kW input power. The design of this device is a Huels type with a narrow downstream electrode. General features of this device are first described. From the measured values of electrical power input, heat discharged into cooling water, gas flow rate, and settling chamber pressure, average enthalpy was determined using the heat balance and sonic throat methods. Using the settling chamber pressure and average enthalpy values, the flow properties in the nozzle and the heat transfer rate to the stagnation point of a blunt body are calculated accounting for thermochemical nonequilibrium. The envelope of enthalpy, pressure, degree of dissociation, and heat transfer rate are presented. Stagnation temperature is predicted to be between 4630 to 6050 $^{\circ}K$, and the stagnation point heat transfer rate is predicted to be between 175 and 318 W/$cm^{2}$ for a blunt body of 3 mm nose radius. Degree of dissociation in the stagnation region of the blunt body exceeds 30%.
Closed-die forging of the spur gears with circular are fillet has been analyses by using the upper-bound method. A kinematically admissible velocity field has been developed, wherein, the tooth profile consists of the involute curve and the circular arc fillet. In the analysis, the deformation regions have been divided into eight zones. A constant frictional stress has been assumed on the contacting surfaces Utilizing the formulated velocity field, numerical calculations have been carried out to investigate the effects of various parameters, such as module, number of teeth, addendum modification coefficient and friction factor, on the relative forging pressure of spur gears. As the result of numerical calculations, the relative forging pressure does not change so much against the variation of module. On the other hand, the relative forging pressure increases at the final filling stage as the addendum modification coefficient increases.

CrN coatings were deposited by cathodic arc ion plating method on the SKD11 steel substrates. Atmosphere temperature of $350^{\circ}C$, arc current of 90 A, nitrogen partial pressure of 1.0-5.3 Pa, and negative bias voltage of 30-135 V were selected. The characteristics of microstructure were investigated with XRD. Hardness, adhesion and friction coefficient measured by microhardness tester, scratch tester, and ball on disk tribometer. Microstructures depended on nitrogen partial pressure and bias voltage. The preferred orientation of the films was changed from (200) to (111) with decreasing pressure and increasing bias voltage. Adhesion properties related with microstructure, but microstructure changes slightly influenced on hardness and friction properties. The critical load.($Lc_1$) and hardness of CrN films deposited at 5.3 Pa, -30 V condition were 55 N(HF1), $2157{\pm}47\;Hk_{0.025}$. The friction coefficient were about 0.5 under dry condition.

The objective of this study is to characterize design parameters of rocket igniters for composite, double base and nitramine propellant. Arc image furnace and fiber optics surface reflectometer were used to measure ignition delay time and reflected optical energy of several compositions of composite, double base and nitramine base rocket propellant at different pressure levels each other. The order of ignitability was double base > composite > Nitramine propellants at initial pressure of over 75 psia. The highest ignition energy was needed to ignite nitramine propellant, however, as the pressure increased up to the range of $75{\sim}400$ psia as the ignition delay time decreased abruptly. The absorbtion of radiation energy could be increased by the addition of small amount of opacifiers as carbon black, ZrC, WC and burning catalyst.
The coupled simulation is performed to find out the interaction of arc plasmas with surrounding materials in a thermal puffer plasma chamber. In order to be more realistic, PTFE nozzle ablation and Cu electrode evaporation, which are caused by high temperature of arc plasmas, are considered together. Pressure rise and temperature inside the chamber generated during the whole arcing history are investigated with the applied currents. It is very important to define how thermal flow and mass transfer are processing between the arc plasma and surrounding materials for further understanding complex physics inside the chamber. It is concluded that the result might be very useful to understand the mechanism happened inside and to design thermal puffer plasma chambers, but further experimental studies are required to verify the results for the more practical applications.
For the analysis of hot gas flow due to arc in puffer type $SF_6$ gas circuit breakers(GCBs), a program has been developed by adding function for arcing to the Fluid-in Cells(FLIC) method, which is often used for a two dimensional compressible flow problems, utilizing a simplified enthalpy flow arc model available for arcing. In this paper, the results of arc modelling for 800kV GCB are presented and compared with that of cold gas flow in the interrupters. It is shown that the nozzle clogging is the dominating factor in the pressure rise of the puffer chamber. It permits to estimate the dielectric strength of interrupters.

The use of plasma has increased in bio-application field in recent years. Particularly, water treated by arc discharge or atmospheric pressure plasma has been actively utilized in bio-industry. In this study, we have developed a plasma activated water generating system. For this system, two kinds of plasma sources; dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma and arc discharge plasma have been used. The discharge energy was calculated using the breakdown voltage and current, and the emission spectrum was measured to investigate the generated reactive species. We also analyzed the amount of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species in water using the chemical methods and nitric oxide sensor. Finally, the influence of plasma generated reactive species on the germination and growth of spinach (Spinacia oleracea) was investigated. Spinach is a green leafy vegetable that contains a large amount of various physiologically active organic compounds. However, it is characterized with a low seed germination rate.
