Demand for high speed sea transportation modes has been increased dramatically last few decades. The WIG(Wing-in-ground effect) is considered as next generation maritime transportation system. In the structural design of high speed marine vessels, an estimation of water impact loads is essential. The dynamic structural responses of the WIG excited by the water impact loads may bring an important contribution to their damage process. The work presented in this paper is focused on the numerical simulation of the water impact on the WIG craft when it lands. It is aimed to study the structural responses of the WIG craft subjected to the water impact loads. The Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) finite element method is used to simulate the water impact of the WIG craft during a landing phase. A full 3D shell element is used to model the WIG craft in carbon composites, and a developed FE model is used to investigate the effect of the water impact loads on the structural responses of the WIG craft. In the analysis, two different landing scenarios are considered and their effects on the structural responses are investigated.

In the analysis of metal forming process, ALE(Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian) finite element methods have been increasingly used for the capability to control mesh independently from material flow. The methods can be divided into two groups i.e., coupled and split formulations. In the present work, the split ALE formulation is used for computational efficiency. A split ALE finite element method developed for rigid-viscoplastic materials and applied to the analysis of hot square die extrusion. Since thermal state greatly affects the product quality, an ALE scheme for temperature analysis is also presented. As computational examples, profile shapes as square and cross-like sections are chosen.

In case of aluminum-cased battery, The ratio of height and base of square is generally above the ten times, square-shaped and problem of non-axis symmetry. It is typical model to set up the analysis method of finite element. The reliable analysis of finite element method is suggested, which is used to investigate the possibility that multi-stage deep drawing and ironing used currently is replaced by backward impact extrusion favorable in the respect of cost production and productivity. The influence of parameter was analyzed and compared, which was considered to analyze the process of large deformation plasticity such as extrusion. Die and billet was made as the same shape of finite element model. The results of experiment show good forming without the rupture and wrinkles with the optimum velocity 100mm/sec obtained by analysis.

The arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) method has been extensively researched owing to its capability to accurately predict the propagation of blast shock waves. Although the use of the ALE method for dynamic analysis can produce unreliable results depending on the mesh size of the finite element, few studies have explored the relationship between the mesh size for the air domain and the accuracy of numerical analysis. In this study, we propose a procedure to calculate the optimal mesh size based on the mean squared error between the maximum blast pressure values obtained from numerical simulations and experiments. Furthermore, we analyze the relationship between the weight of explosive material (TNT) and the optimal mesh size of the air domain. The findings from this study can contribute to estimating the optimal mesh size in blast simulations with various explosion weights and promote the development of advanced blast numerical analysis models.

To investigate the effect of the flexible artery wall on the blood flow, three-dimensional numerical simulations were carried out for analyzing the time-dependent incompressible flows of Newtonian fluids constrained by a flexible wall. The Navier-Stokes equations for fluid flow were solved using the P2P1 Galerkin finite element method, and mesh movement was achieved using an arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian formulation. The Newmark method was employed for solving the dynamic equilibrium equations for the deformation of a linear elastic solid. To avoid complexity due to the necessity of additional mechanical constraints, we used a combined formulation that includes both the fluid and structure equations of motion to produce a single coupled variational equation. The results showed that the flexibility of the carotid wall significantly affects flow phenomena during the pulse cycle. The flow field was also found to be strongly influenced by the bifurcation angle.
The effect of the Dirichlet boundary condition for the redistance equation of level set method on the solutionof sloshing problem is investigated by adopting four Dirichlet boundary conditions. For the solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, P1P1 four-step fractional finite element method is employed and a least-square finite element method is used for the solutions of the two hyperbolic type equations of level set method; advection and redistance equation. ALE (Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian) method is used to deal with a moving computational domain. It has been shown that the free surface motion in a sloshing tank is strongly dependent on the type of the Dirichlet boundary condition and the results of broken dam and sloshing problems using various Dirichlet boundary conditions are discussed and compared with the existing experimental results.

Many researches have been studied several vibration control device such as TMD and TLD to reduce the influence of wind or seismic waves for high-rise buildings. TLD provides some advantages such as easy installation and low maintenance cost. However, because of the difficulties in evaluating the characteristics of TLD, the dynamic characteristics of TLD must be investigated by experiment or analysis. In this study, the dynamic response analysis of structure with TLD was carried out to verify the vibration control ability of the proposed TLD for high-rise building with about 60 stories. A real seismic wave was used, and the parameter of interest was chosen by the height of water level in the same shape of water tank. From the numerical results, the responses of structure with water tank were confirmed to be safer than those of structure without water tank.
The transient dynamic-response analysis of fuel-storage tanks of flying vehicles accelerating in the vertical direction is achieved with finite element method. A fuel-storage tank is a representative example of the fluid-structure interaction problem, in which structure and fluid media interact strongly. For the accurate analysis of this complicated fluid-structure system, we employed ALE(arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian) coupling method. Two types of fuel-storage tanks, one with two baffles and the other without baffle, are considered to examine the effect of baffles. The fuel-storage tank with baffles shows more uniform hydrodynamic pressure distribution, resulting effective stress in structural region and faster convergence from transient to steady states. MSC/Dytran, a commercial FEM software for the 3D coupled dynamic analysis, is used for this analysis.
Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian finite element methods gain interest for the capability to control mesh geometry independently from material geometry, the ALE methods are used to create a new undistorted mesh for the fluid domain. In this paper we use the ALE technique to solve fuel slosh problem. Fuel slosh is an important design consideration not only for the fuel tank, but also for the structure supporting the fuel tank. "Fuel slosh" can be generated by many ways: abrupt changes in acceleration (braking), as well as abrupt changes in direction (highway exit-ramp). Repetitive motion can also be involved if a "sloshing resonance" is generated. These sloshing events can in turn affect the overall performance of the parent structure. A finite element analysis method has been developed to analyze this complex event. A new ALE formulation for the fluid mesh has been developed to keep the fluid mesh integrity during the motion of the tank. This paper explains the analysis capabilities on a technical level. Following the explanation, the analysis capabilities are validated against theoretical using potential flow for calculating fuel slosh frequency.
A flame deflector prevents a launch system from thermal damage by deflecting the exhaust flame of the launch vehicle. During the deflection of the flame, the flame deflector is subjected to a high-temperature and high-pressure flow, which results in thermal ablation damage at the surface. Predicting this ablation damage is an essential requirement to ensure a reliable design. This paper introduces a numerical method for predicting the ablation damage phenomena based on a one-way fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis. In the proposed procedure, the temperature and convective heat transfer coefficient of the exhaust flame are calculated using a fluid dynamics analysis, and then the ablation is calculated using a finite element analysis (FEA) based on the user-subroutine UMESHMOTION and Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) adaptive mesh technique in ABAQUS. The result of such an analysis was verified by comparison to the ablation test result for a flame deflector.
